I admit I'm far from a great ball striker but I've never had a problem getting balls in the air, with SGI clubs I launch them way too high and lose distance. I also like to be able to keep the flight down if I need to because my skill level puts me under trees a fair amount so I've gotten pretty good at a low punch that runs up towards the green. I was never able to pull those shots off with my last set of deep cavities. I do wish I had a lower COG when I top the ball and it only gets about 25ft off the ground, but those have gotten a lot less common. Distances don't bother me much. As long as I have an iron that carries about 180 then I'm good because I don't go for par 5s in 2 unless it's begging for it.

Alcohol seems to be a pretty effective swing killer on the local courses.

I could see Spieth taking the green jacket. He's been doing well and was runner up last year so he got the taste of victory to make him work even harder.

I have the MP H4 irons and the mid and long irons have some hollow space inside like a hybrid. I guess when I get the same swing speed as Phil I'll be concerned about this. LOL

Anyone else find it easier to hit blades?
danL replied to dwade247's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Agreed. I recently switched from GI to MP H4 and while they're no where near a true blade, they have improved my striking. My first 2 games with them were +30ish (normally shoot +15ish) but now that I've gotten used to them I've started to get that sexy worn sweet spot look and my mishits aren't nearly as bad. Now a mishit goes 15yd short but is still straight and usually plenty high. My mishits tend to be fat rather than thin and I've gotten away from my toe mishits, except on my 3 Iron. Man that thing is a challenge for me. -

I tried some MP4 irons and while I absolutely loved the short irons I found the 5i and 4i hard to get proper loft. My swing is far from perfect, especially with longer clubs. However, with the short irons, I found I'm much more accurate. Maybe it's the fact that I don't want to get a stinging sensation in my hands, but I focus much more on a centered strike with less forgiving irons which has made me close the club face more consistently and get much better results. I never tried to take a divot after the ball with SGI irons because even fat hits weren't punished hardly at all. I know realistically that I'll never be scratch, but I do like to improve and the sting of mishits has forced me to correct some things in my swing. Fear is a hell of a motivator. LOL -
I have a super stroke slim 3.0 and it has helped significantly in evening out my applied pressure. I find it much easier to judge distance with it. I also use an Odyssey White hot (v-line).

I've received some conflicting information about this and just want to be sure. Is it legal to repair ball marks on the green that are in your line of play before making your putt? Of course you can't press down and improve your lie, but does this constitute improving your lie or is there a separate rule governing man-made obstructions? Thanks.

With the Mizuno MP T5s release, the MP T4 has come down quite a bit. I believe you could get both for $100. Absolutely love mine. My 56.10 is by far my most used club. Most of my home courses have short par 4s so it's rare that I need more than a wedge for the approach.

I was looking at Mizuno MP 64 irons which I think are in the same class (players cavity) as the AP2. I ended up going with the MP H4 set because as someone else suggested, the long irons were more forgiving and that's where I needed it. I'm sure titleist has a similar offering, but if not you may want to try the MP H4 at your fitting. They still have that buttery forged feel but the extra forgiveness in the long irons is really helpful. If you're dead set on titleist and find that the long irons in the AP2 set are hard to hit, don't be afraid to mix and match a set. I was going to do just that until I saw that Mizuno had read my mind and made a set just like that.

Sorry I was referring to the unplayable lie as a hazard too. I know it isn't an actual hazard and probably should have used different wording.
-
Great thanks for the help. So let me see if I have it right. If the ball goes into a hazard or is unplayable (but visible) you can drop next to the hazard. If you do not know exactly where your ball ended up then you must take 3rd shot from the tee. Correct?
-
You only have to hit another ball off the tee if it goes out of bounds. OB is marked with white posts. Anything that's not marked as OB is simply a bad lie or hazard. Do you not just take a drop where the ball entered the hazard, woods, etc in this case? Not stating any of this as fact, just trying to understand this rule better myself.

Controlling/Squaring club face with pivot

If you have a smart phone it should allow you to record your swing in slow motion. Good luck! -
Don't underestimate how many bitter old men are on this site who will try to kill the motivation of a kid to feel better about their own lack of talent and wasted years. People who feel the need to be an ******* to a child on the Internet must not be respected by anyone in the real world, so for all of you that this applies to, I pity you, I really do.
-
So, OP, you're saying Ben Hogan is irrelevant because he couldn't hit a ball as far with a Persimmon stick as a 25 year old can hit it with a titanium stick... Yawn. Wake me up when you have a brain, or when you decide to return to your troll thread and defend your idiocy.

I used to play as a kid but took a 15 year break or so. I enjoy anything that requires precision and skill, golf, guitar, guns, lots of things. I also enjoy the social and relaxation aspects of recreational golf.

I think he meant he would be disappointed if he invested all that time but never got good. I could be wrong, but this is natural concern for anything someone wants to be good at. Unrelated, but some of my guitar students have voiced similar concerns. I play golf for fun, I never intend to profit from it unless you count me and my brother betting a $1 on a hole, so I'm not concerned about becoming pro or any of that, but I can relate to the feeling of doubt for sure.

Mulligan ball holder and glove holder

I hope you didn't spend much developing that prototype. I don't think many serious golfers will flock to it, but if you look at all the gimmicks in Golf Galaxy, you may realize they can be sold. It amazes me how many people I see walking out of GG with impulse buys. I think you should cater to that market. -
I'll take them from the second cut then. ;)

A towel that won't dry out after 4-5 hours on the range and course? Sorcery! Seriously though, not much beats a spray bottle on a nasty course that would otherwise cover a towel in mud in a few minutes. I think my back can handle the extra 2oz of weight.
-
If I was allowed to hunt white tails at my home course I'd never have to go in the woods! I do enjoy a good hunt though. Nothing like freezing your ass off for 5 hours hoping just to see something. Some people don't get it, but some people find golf boring too. Different strokes.
-
I clean them after every single shot because I just can't stand the look of any dirt on the club at address. I keep a spray bottle and nylon brush on hand.

I don't mind it, bright colors keep it fun. At least he doesn't dress like he's at a funeral like Phil. LOL
