Perhaps I didn't clarify, or perhaps you didn't read close enough, but I said it's typical for me to consistently shoot in the 90's. I've shot low 90's on great days but, more often than not, am shooting in the mid-to-upper 90's. It's also not uncommon for me to fail to break 100. I'm pretty adamant about playing by the book, so to speak. If you want to say I have a lack of knowledge of the game, fine, whatever, but I don't think that necessarily correlates directly to scoring, but I'm not going to argue that. The reason I ask is because I've never had a proper bag setup, hence why I don't know what a good setup would be. All I've ever had is my iron set, putter, driver and fairway woods (which I can't hit well, so I leave them in the bag). I typically always use my friends wedges. I'm pretty solid with the accuracy of my irons, but am not very good off the tee and my short game needs plenty of work. I'm decent with the putter.

This seems like the best area of the forum to put this. I have put off ditching my Walmart clubs and getting new ones for years due to the fact that I never felt it was worth it. Now that I play a bit more than I used to, want to dedicate time to getting better, and have some disposable income, I want to get a whole new setup. I obviously know I need a driver, putter and iron set. I'm looking at some game-improvement irons that are 4-AW and finding a driver and putter is a simple enough feat. My question: what else should I keep in my bag? Specifically, if I were to get an iron set like that, what should I be looking at in terms of woods, hybrids and wedges? I'm not a great player, but would say that I consistently shoot in the 90s. Low 90s on a great day, upper 90s and higher on a terrible day.

You can't really compare being a musician to a golfer. In golf, most people just don't have the skills to become a professional. For musicians, there are plenty of people who gig local clubs that are much better musicians than a lot of highly successful artists, they're just never discovered.

I have my own set of clubs, but last summer I didn't have any wedges in my bag, so I'd use my friends whenever I needed to hit a wedge shot. It did not slow up play at all. In fact, it might actually have sped it up because I was much better with his 56 degree from 75 yards in than I was trying to use my PW.

What exactly goes down at a driver fitting and are they really necessary? Is the purpose really just to figure out what kind of shaft you should be using and seeing which driver you hit better/further?

I think Tiger does plenty and it's really all he can do. It's really the game of golf that prevents a lot of black children from being more involved with the sport. I don't think there are too many inner city black kids that grow up wanting to play golf and those who do have those dreams, just simply cannot pursue them for financial reasons. That's why you see the NBA dominated by black players. Basketball is a sport where all you need is a ball and a hoop. It's not an expensive sport and there are tons of basketball courts in the inner city.

So, say I needed longer irons and got fit and ordered them and they were great and worked out. Should I just use those same measurements to order my wedges then or should I go back and get fitted all over again for the wedges? And just because I need longer irons, doesn't mean I need a longer driver, right? Obviously I want to get fitted for everything properly, but these are just a few general questions I had.

I use the Noodle Long & Softs and really like them. Not to mention, they're pretty cheap.

I simply make a black aiming line halfway around the ball, usually covering the text that says what type of ball it is (i.e. Long & Soft). Does anyone have any tips for making a straighter line though? I have troubles with that sometimes. Lol

Oh, and right now I play the Noodle Long & Softs Love the price of them and really like how they play.

As a high handicapper, I completely agree with everything you've said. I'm in the process of upgrading my bag, but for now I use an old set of clubs I got from Walmart oh, probably close to ten years ago. I can hit/play decent with them, but when I've hit my friends driver on the range, there's a huge difference. I'm not saying technology and new clubs are magically going to bring me down to a single digit handicap, but nice equipment definitely helps your game. Anyone who says otherwise, in my opinion, is foolish.

How accurate are things like this? I've always sort of wondered how accurate the results they give you after those measurements are.

Yes, I enjoyed watching golf more when he was away from the game. But more-so I'd just rather someone put him on his ass so to speak and put a little bit of a dent in his God-like status.

Poulter was my choice too. Aside from this past weekend, he'd been playing great golf lately. I hope it's Poulter, Rocco or it would be amazing to see The Shark win all these years later.

It's amazing watching Tiger do what he does (and I'm not really a fan of his) but the lovefest does kind of get annoying. What do you expect though? NBC is a business and they're trying to milk Tiger for ratings. What smart company wouldn't do that? I just hope that Phil or someone else can start winning tournaments with Tiger in the field so I can stop hearing about Tiger for awhile.

I've been contemplating what to get first, new irons, a driver or wedges and I think I'm going to get wedges. This was one of my major problems last year seeing as all I have to work with right now is a PW. Thanks for the recommendations. I think I'm going to get a 52 and a 58. Can anyone help me out with bounce? The 58 would probably be for greenside bunkers and other areas around the green and the 52 would be used from 100 on in or so I'd guess.

Which is why I said I personally just don't like it. I also think there's plenty of other ways to show emotion and not be robotic than swearing and throwing clubs. There are plenty of guys that are animated and that don't do that.

The thing is, there are plenty of ways to display your frustration or anger with a shot that don't involve throwing a club or pounding it into the ground. I hear more "God damnit's!!" and see more clubs being slammed into the ground with Tiger in one tournament than I see/hear the rest of the year. I just don't like that. There's plenty of other, more appropriate ways to show emotion than that. We should be more concerned with these kinds of antics instead of worrying about whether or not cargo shorts and a shirt without a collar are appropriate golf course attire.

I love Rocco, one of my favorites on tour. He's just such a great guy and is out there enjoying what he does.

Yeah, I think the Black Series only offers three models or so. I don't really get the difference in style between the #1 and #2 just from looking at pictures. I've never putted with a milled putter, so that's why I ask about the difference in between the two series'.

It's not just like baseball. At a baseball game you're a lot closer to the action and you can actually see a foul ball coming. It's tough in golf to be sitting along the fairway or around the green and see the ball in the air. It's someone's responsible to yell fore so people can at least somewhat protect themselves.

I too am interested in this. I was looking at getting the Black Series i but the regular Black Series are a bit cheaper and I'm wondering how much difference in feel there is.

I know Barkley was always a Nike guy from his basketball playing days, I just didn't know if he carried that over to golf and played Nike clubs. I just found it funny how on the show they trotted him out with a Nike bag, clearly made the Nike clubs visible and him and Haney both decked out in Nike gear. Gotta love product placement.
