  2. Voted maybe, it would really depend on how I felt about the person. I'm comfortable around guns, its people that freak me out.
  3. I can score 120 with a cheap ball just as well as with a tour ball. Maybe later it will actually matter for me. Right now not so much.
  4. I have a Wilson SuperFly 72*. Its a lot of fun and gets some funny looks but I would not carry it in a round. Too easy to hit it thin. Side note, at the range I go to often I am not allowed to hit it on the covered portion of the range.
  5. I'm the air counter guy. I'm getting better but I still have to once in a while. Usually after a brutal hole. I can get done in the walk from pin to bag. Favorite expression, "One, two, ob, four, five, six, dammit." This is usually on the range but, how about starts digging through your bag without asking guy. Makes comments about how he only hits brand X because that's what serious players hit. Wants to see how the other half live by hitting your clubs. And of course they are not as good. Favorite expression, "Can I hit your pitching wedge?"
  6. I wouldn't be able to stop playing with the one on the right.
  7. I've been hit twice, both times while I was working on a course as course maintaince. First time was the funnier of the two, I was parked under some trees waiting for a foursome to tee off. The first three landed on the fairway about ten yards in front of me. The last guy must have hit a superb banana slice and directly into the trees around me. Those trees were fortyish feet tall and he put his drive into the very top of them. I heard the ball bouncing from branch to branch then it dropped directly onto the top of my head. The guy next to me said that it bounced a full three feet of my head and it ended up in a favorable lie. I was holding my head and trying to walk that off when the member pulled up in his cart. Poor guy didn't even know we were there. He went back to the club and got me an ice pack. Second one was off the same tee, I couldn't move my equipment any further away and this guy got pissed and as I'm getting off the machine he hits his tee shot. It got me in the solidly in the ribs. That bruise lasted a long time. I haven't hit anyone though. If the possibility is there then I'll wait.
  8. +1 They do work off of cheap commercial carpet on concrete though. I've played with them at work. The main thing they showed me was I was still moving my head early. When I would move my head early complete whiff, head down contact. YMMV.
  9. It looks legit, but I wasn't exactly blown away by the discounts. If no one here has any feedback then you could try them out on a small purchase.
  10. Sometimes its okay, sometimes it isn't. If it pisses off someone in the bar, every time. My favorite type of beer is a draft stout and I don't see any fruit ever going on that pint glass.
  11. Take it easy man. No need for name calling. I believe he was just speaking from experience. Most golfers with your stated handicap replace their four and sometimes their five irons with hybrids.
  12. I have had the same problem with my driver. In my first season of golf, I was driving about 180 carry distance. Yesterday I was at the range and was just focused on tempo. Just swinging smoothly and and not worrying about anything else. Instant improvement to 200. I also got a free mini lesson from the range owner/pro. He adjusted my grip and had me focus on my weight transfer-getting my lower body into the swing. Another twenty yards. So +1 to what everyone else has said. Good luck to you and have fun.
  13. I haven't played a round of golf in about thirty days. I don't have time. I've been hitting at the range. I couldn't play yesterday because I had family stuff. Between work and school ,time for anything else is limited. But I have this weekend off, so I got that going for me.:) I work at a PIAS and a guy sold his clubs and bought softball equipment for his daughter. I asked why he was selling and he was frustrated with his development as a golfer. Time and difficulty of the game would be my guess as to why people quit. The time it takes to play eighteen can be too much for a parent. The time it takes to become just ok at this endeavor can be discouraging.
  14. I won't nice anyone. No nice shot until the ball has completely stopped. If some one does this to me I will nicely ask them to refrain until my my ball has come to a complete stop. I also have to adjust my right sleeve before every shot. When its working my right sleeve will all the way to my armpit. :)
  15. I've been playing since April and I have two birdies. One was on a par 3, I left myself a three foot putt for birdie. The last one was a chip in from the fringe on a par 5. I celebrated those suckers like I had won the Open. The last one was luck the first one I didn't worry about until it rolled in. Right now bogey is my goal. Bogey every hole and you score 90. Like everyone has said, worry about taking the doubles and worse off your scorecard and the birdies will follow.
  16. Golf is not cool. IMHO. I still play and have no interest in anyone's else's opinion. Other golfers will talk all day about courses, clubs, etc. Its the coolest thing for a golfer. But,people who don't golf don't care. On a semi-related topic, I wear shimmery polos to play golf. They are the most temperature appropriate shirts I have to play in. I also get complements on them all the time. I also wear golf shorts because the pockets hold a pencil, tee, ball marker, divot tool, and a golf ball more comfortably than regular shorts. Add my white golf shoes and I'm so f'en cool its a wonder that I don't freeze the pond when I donate a ball to the ball diver's retirement fund.
  17. I regrip clubs semiprofessionally. I work at a Play It Again Sports and we will regrip clubs. I've regripped about forty clubs so far and it does take some practice. Two things: get a roll off tape instead of the strips. Apply the tape from about a half inch from where the new grip will end, run tape to the butt of the shaft then over it. Apply the tape down the opposite side of the shaft. Smooth out the tape. After you remove the backing come the most important part. Saturate the inside of the grip and the full length of the tape. Use a lot of solvent. When you think its enough use more. Also you may have to start the grip at an angle to get it on the shaft. It should slide on there easily.
  18. @Club Rat I'll give that a try. I've been working on just hitting consistently, striking the ball. Part of playing that I love is finishing the hole and hearing that ball rattle in the cup.
  19. @ecupirate, thirty yards away I usually roll off the back of the green. That leads to the other problem, my chipping sucks and I'll have a really long putt if I don't go off the other side of the green. Working on chipping hit a bucket of balls at the range practicing a twenty foot shot.
  20. Real quick without starting a new thread, how can I speed up my play without skipping important parts of the game. My problem is that while I can usually get to around the green in two I spend forever trying to get on the green after that. Probably average two more shots to get on. Then I usually have a very long putt. So I spend a long time around and on the green. Any suggestions would be great. I am gonna start picking up gimmies, that should help. Also practicing 30 feet and in. I walk and know that carters will be faster. Still I don't want to be that guy on the course.
  21. I haven't been playing golf that long but that reminded me of when I played competitive pool. Whenever I played someone that cheated, didn't call shots, moved the cue ball, etc. I would eventually challenge them to play straight up, call shots, etc. Usually getting skulldrug around a pool table would shut them up pretty quickly or they would take their house stick and go away. I would do that to him. Challenge him to play nine holes by the rules. If he does you get to watch him struggle and make excuses. If he won't then maybe he will not want to play with you anymore. Either way is a win.
  22. 30 yards and in. My last round I had so many approaches and chips roll off the green or 30 feet past the pin. I kept track of my putts and when I two putt I'm around bogey or par...the triples start multiplying when I'm looking at having to one putt for par from ninety feet.
  23. Mr. Clean magic eraser. Works wonders and doesn't scuff the finish. Also works great for cleaning the face of clubs.
  24. Thanks. I haven't kept a score for eighteen yet, but will check that out.
  25. I just started playing. I had a day were absolutely nothing went right and I had a talk with my self that went like that. I stopped trying so hard and had a great rest of the round. That sandwedge is never going back in my bag though.
