Strong 3 Wood ?
silentfink replied to cape cod beachfront golfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You may want to give the Callaway X-Hot a look. It's a 15* 3-Wood but has a hot clubface and a longer shaft. -
Joined the Mizuno MP Club! ;)

Went club shopping this weekend... need help
silentfink replied to jopela's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I absolutely agree with TheWarHound. Accuracy above distance. Who cares if you hit the club a mile, if it's a mile into the woods? -
Rocket Tour head covers, your experience?
silentfink replied to Thaddy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I love my Rocket Tour knit headcovers. Only issue is if you have a square Driver. It's a bit hard to put on / take off... -

Yes, and they can charge more for the fade, er, uh, um, Tour bias... -
Grips for irons -- No glove
silentfink replied to jermzkill's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't wear a glove and have Golf Pride Tour Velvets on my irons and Lamkin Crossline on my wedges. I'm quite happy with both. -

1. Stay in the moment. Try the one shot at a time approach, and don't tilt because of a bad shot on the previous hole(s). 2. Maintain the intensity. Try to match my back 9 score to my front 9 score. This means avoiding the inevitable fatigue that causes my swing to fall apart. 3. Work on lag putts. Don't get complacent with the lag putts. Make sure to work hard on them and get them within 3 feet of the hole (minimum).

In the past I've had that problem and rectified it by hovering the club at address instead of grounding it. It keeps me looser, allows me to maintain my grip pressure, and stay more upright throughout.

I don't wear a glove so my wedding ring really affects the feel of my grip. Therefore it comes off. My watch also comes off, as I hate the weight of it during my backswing.
-
Nope. Wearing one is more of an annoyance than a help.

That's a great looking set. And, if you play better with it, all the better! Well done.

Help me fill in a 2 gaps in my bag
silentfink replied to mrserv0n18's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
How about going with the following setup: Driver: 10.5* 4-Wood: 17* Hybrids: 21*, 24*, 27* Irons: 6-PW Wedges: 52*, 56*, 60* Putter I purchased my Sonartec NP-99 4-wood off eBay for $100 and it rocks. Much easier to hit than my old 3-wood. Then, you can use your $225 gift card towards the 52* Gap Wedge and 56* Sand Wedge. This will ensure you have no gaps in your short game and you have a full set of clubs that you can hit. -
Relax... Don't think so much!

Haha - I thought the exact same thing!!!

I worked as a greenskeeper on a rather upscale private course for 3 summers while in college. It didn't pay all that well, but I was allowed to play after work as long as I didn't hold up play. Well, there weren't that many members playing at 4 in the afternoon so I played just about every day of the week. My equipment stunk, I couldn't afford lessons, and my I had to give way any time the upper crust came around. It didn't matter. It was amazing. I got to play on a perfectly manicured course, hitting 3 balls on every hole, and it cost me absolutely nothing. Best job I ever had.

financial stuff, thinking about moving out, got questions
silentfink replied to Voiceontapex's topic in The Grill Room
If I were you, I would try to tough it out as long as I can without paying rent. Yeah, it puts a huge damper on the social life, but if you can save all of that rent money instead of spending it, you'll be FAR better off later on in life. And, whatever you do, don't get into debt. Credit cards are EVIL!!!!!!!!! -
Holes 1-18: Water. Lots of it. Hole 19: Beer. Lots of it.

He's got the personality of a 2 x 4. Great player, though.

Driver: Ping G5 10.5* Stiff Shaft - I tried out several and the Ping felt and sounded the best to me. I originally tried a regular shaft but kept duck-hooking it. Tried stiff and all was well. 4-Wood: Sonartec NP-99 17* - I used to have a 3-wood and a 5-wood in my bag. The problem was that I wasn't hitting them consistently and the difference in distance between the two wasn't that great. I decided to split the difference with a club that had a loft in between the two and felt great to hit. 21* Hybrid - Callaway X-Hybrid - Can't hit a 3-iron consistently but can easily hit this club. It's great not only off the tee but off the short stuff. 24.5* Hybrid - Nickent 5DX - I received an offer in the mail that allowed me to trade in an old Nickent hybrid for a brand new 5DX. I was able to get a new hybrid with the perfect loft (it's perfectly between my 21* hybrid and my 27* 5-iron) for just a Benjamin. Sweet! Irons - Mizuno 5-PW - I wanted these for the longest time. I hit them at a golf shop and they were buttery and beautiful. I read every review of them. The problem is that I couldn't justify the cost. Well, that's when fate intervened. My boss was looking at our bank's rewards program and we saw that we could get an MP-57 set for just a fraction of the total points we had. Schwing! Wedges - Eidolon GW, SW, and LW - I've been so torn on bounce angles and I think Eidolon's technology addresses my issues perfectly. I want to be able to hit all of my wedges from tight lies but I also need them to perform from the rough and sand. The v-sole takes care of it. Putter - Odyssey 2-Ball White Steel Blade - It's all about feel and this does it for me. I love the sight-lines, the weight, and the feel off the face. Clicgear 2.0 Push Cart - I have a balky back and suffered big time (3+ strokes) on the back nine. My wife bought me this for my birthday and I'm thrilled. It saves my backs and lets me think about my next shot as I'm walking towards it... Ogio Vision Stand Bag - It's light, it has enough pockets (and they're in the right places), and the colors are nice.

Frogger all the way. -
Big fan of Eidolon wedges. Please let us know what you end up with!

Yeah, I know him. I don't play with him anymore, though. That's because I don't play with (or respect) cheaters. They can go play with themselves. So to speak.

I'm in. Thanks!
