  1. Sorry to be a jackass but how do you have a 15.4 HC and your best round was an 88? I know if you are playing supper tough couses from the back tees that might work but it seems a little odd to me. As for the question I don't like to warm up too much. I am just as successful if I take a few swings before my round without a ball in front of me as I am when I hit balls on the range. I actually find I play worse when I hit a lot of shots on the range. One thing that definitely makes me play worse is when I get to the couse too early, I can't help but think about my first tee shot and this makes me tight and mechanical on the first hole. I think I am echoing a lot of people here when I say try both a few times and see what works for you.
  2. How do you guarantee a fairwayoff the tee? I guess being a 2.8 HC your can guarantee a fairway with a long iron but for some of us nothing is guaranteed. I think the hole layout is important to factor in, if the hole narrows up and brings a hazard into play at 250 by all means keep yourself out of trouble and lay up but if it is a fairly open hole I would prefer to get it as far out as posible. I know personally I have had more pars on par 5's by hitting one in the trees punching out and then hitting a good third shot than I have hitting 3 solid shots in a row.
  3. O.k. I have answered my own question judging from the # of attempts relative to the # of rounds it must be only when the player is going for a GIR. Now my only question is does it count eagle putts from the fringe or from the green?
  4. So those stats are for anytime the player is not on the green but inside 100 yards, even if they are only 1 inch off the green and putting from the fringe? Or is it just the shot that they are attempting to reach the GIR from inside 100 yards? If that is the case would an eagle putt count?
  5. What I find even more annoying is the guy who hits it in the water and everyone but him sees it, but he still has to wander around and look for his ball for 5+ minutes because he didn't watch the ball. Now I could see being annoyed if the ball was clearly going in the water and someone said "SPLASH" as the ball landed. Another thing I can't stand is the guy who acts like he is better than he is and after a bad shot is so focused on making everyone he is playing with think his bad shot was 1 out of 100 he slams or drops his club and doesn't watch where his ball ends up so either someone has to tell him where his ball is or he spends several minutes looking for it.
  6. I am not sure I agree with this entirely, if you are playing with four people you almost have to get a net birdie to win a hole and a higher HC will usually have a greater discrepancy between their good and bad holes. I average 4.5 pars per round and .4 birdies, I don't think a 2 HC averages 5 birdies per round so with my HC I would get a stroke per hole and I would end up with 4.5 birdies and .4 eagles that would make it difficult for the 2 HC to compete.
  7. This just shows if you are "putting out of your mind" you are capable of putting up great scores. This just shows you have the potential shoot low when you putt exceptionally well. You have done that so you have the potential to do that, hence your handicap is a accurate indicator of your potential. What would you think if someone said "I was hitting my irons right at the pin but I couldn't putt so my 82 was really a 76 so we will split the difference and give me a 79."
  8. I agree 100%, I see no problem with conferring with your playing partners/fellow competitors and declaring an area ground under repair if it is clear that the area in question is not in the condition it was intended to be. Many courses I play you never see an area marked ground under repair, while that might not be an issue for some of you that play better maintained courses for some of us it almost necessary. I don't want to hit from a tire track in the middle of the fairway because that is not how the course was designed to be played. If my ball goes into a pile of downed branches that have just been cut down but haven't been cleared away yet I will just drop a ball. When you play lower end muni's especially in winter you have to respect the spirit of the rules if the course does not have the manpower to put the course in acceptable playing conditions. I have yet to see a pro hit out of a tire track in the fairway.
  9. I do the same thing but i do it in regards to bogey golf, (it makes me feel better about myself). If I bogey the hole I get to act like I got a par as far as +/- is concerned. I do keep another row for my actual score (3,4,5,6,7,8,9) but at any moment I can tell how I am doing. A good round for me is 89 so it works out because on a par 72 a bogey golf round is 90 so if i finish in the negative's I know I had a good round for me.
  10. I guess a 1.5. My recommendation is to keep the lower body more planted. (He should not take my advice because I am terrible at golf.)
  11. Not to be a jerk but I said "dominate" not just beat.
  12. Off the subject are you allowed to hit more than one provisional according to the rules? I know it does not say much for my golfing ability but I have hit a second provisional many times. It is awesome when you find your first ball instead of hitting 6
  13. Yes and they would dominate almost everyone on this forum.
  14. I would recommend that you mark you golf balls differently. I use 1 dot, 2 dots, and 3 dots to the right of the number. I decided to do this after I hit a bad tee shot and then hit a provisional in the same general area. I only found 1 ball but could not tell if it was the original or the provisional. If you play provisionals you have to be able to tell what ball is the original and what is the provisional, you should be able to identify the provisional. You can't say "I just grabbed a ball out of my bag this must be it."
  15. I avoid caffeine. I am generally excited enough to focus properly and caffeine just makes me tense and jittery.

    Jerry Rice

Let us remember #80 is about 46 years old and his body has taken quite a bit of punishment, he has taken hits that would put me in the hospital. He has had at least two knee injurys and has played in the NFL for about 20 years. He has the focus and determination that very few individuals have in this world. I believe had he grown up playing golf he would have been on the PGA tour. He is the greatest wide receiver ever without being the biggest or fastest but he did that though his hard work. I would not put it past him to make the senior tour.
  17. Sucks to be you. JK You should be able to get in 9 holes before dinner, even in winter.
  18. [QUOTE=andef;402761]and hit HALF the fairways. WoW hit half the fairways , I am buying a Talormade tomorrow. Honestly I would take hitting 7 fairways a round, (driving accuracy has never been my strong point).
  19. As a high handicapper with a poor short game I find it beneficial to play a scramble with a player with a good short game, it improves my short game. We can discuss what we think the ball will do, where we want the ball to land etc. I find it helpful to see what the ball does from directly behind another player, I can watch the ball the entire time from the perfect angle something I never get to do when playing a real round. So it is good practice for me and since the round doesn't really count, anything that can help me improve while still maintaining a fun, fair, and competitive game I have no problem with. While I realize that professional golfers are much more skilled than I am I would think it would be helpful to them as well. They get to watch a putt from a fellow professional in a pressure situation from the perfect angle. Than if that putt misses they get a chance to apply what they saw to try to make the putt. I wouldn't want to play or watch scrambles all the time but occasionally they are fun. Just like occasionally I like to play with less than my usual number of clubs. I would like to see the pro's play a one or two day tournament with 3 clubs and a putter. I think it would be interesting to see what clubs each player choses and see some very creative shots from the worlds best
  20. That's what I was implying. I recently went on a golf trip to Las Vegas and while I could have gotten a cheaper flight I would have to pay a baggage fee for my clubs at the very least, more if I checked my personal bag and from what I have heard some airlines charge for oversized fees for golf clubs. I find it is always a good practice to find out what additional charges might apply. Recently I have always carried my personal luggage, this trip I didn't and it was a much better experience for me, I just had my iphone for reading and entertainment. I didn't have to lug my bags into the bathroom and all around the airport. Given the choice now I will always check my bags unless I am carrying something irreplaceable or I am going someplace where I won't be able to replace the things I need. As to the O.p.'s question I don't think you have to play every second you are on your trip. I might be in the minority here but I find playing 36 holes in a day takes some of the fun out of the game. If you have a good round and feel good by all means play another but if you justify the trip by saying you will get to play 72 holes out of it and didn't play well it would not be as enjoyable as it could be if your expectations were just enjoy some nice weather and play a little golf in the middle of winter.
  21. Make sure you account for bag fees for your clubs. I don't know what airline you will be flying but the cheapest base price doesn't always end up being the cheapest total price. Also while you are spending some money you might what to play a round at a high end course it won't affect your total trip price that much. If you can afford it I say go for it.
  22. Isn't their a limit to the length of the line you can put on your ball for aiming purposes? I thought the pro v1 and others used the maximum allowable line length.
  23. I see why he has a negative rep.
  24. Looks like we have a cheater here. The discusion here is actuly about someone cheating in a stroke play charity tournament. I was responding to soups post where he said even his kids know not to tatle. I was just asking when is it O.K. To report something.
  25. To me that is the point, you have to be consistent. Should it be O.K. to cheat in a friendly poker game with your buddies where the most you will lose is $20? To me that is worse than counting cards while playing blackjack in Vegas.
