Courses already are striving to be more eco-friendly today though, just maybe not the percentage that one would conceivably like to see. However, like the rest of the world today, the change towards environmental efficiency is slow, and nothing is going to be done in the immediate future. I do know, though, that Golf Digest awards eco-friendly courses annually I believe for their efforts, and I think this is the positive change golf needs to strive for

I agree with you completely. In the midwestern deserts of the United States (Arizona, New Mexico, etc) the main aquifer that supplies water to the region is fed by the rockies, and runs all the way south into Mexico. Because of the water needs of golf courses and other such green areas in the region, this aquifer is being depleted at an alarming rate. There are no signs that it is even replenished at a close to fast enough rate to sustain this usage, and the people down the Colorado River (fed by this aquifer) will soon be in danger of not having a viable water supply. Would this problem be fixed by the absence of golf courses and their water needs? Probably not completely, but it would help. I agree with you, Phyillyk, in that I'm not going to stop playing because of it, or that I'm going to boycott desert golf courses. But I do believe that environmental awareness needs to be increased when it comes to golf courses, and I would be fine with browner courses if it meant more water conserved. I think that in today's age, there definitely is more environmental awareness in the golf industry as you're seeing more environmentally sound courses being built, but I still think that there is a long ways to go.

I break my game down into about four different areas: driving, irons, short game, and putting. Not once, in my entire three years of playing, have they all come together at once. Granted, it's been closer to coming together as of recently, but there's always something majorly off. If I hit 11/14 fairways, I have 43 putts. If hit 6/18 greens (good for me), I haven't hit any fairways. I think what all golfers really strive to be is consistent and I think that's when you really start getting good.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I feel like it could help the OP too. Do you ever vary the speed/force of the putter head when varying distance, or do you only vary the length of the back and forward swing?
-
Are they in front of the ball? If they are then I wouldn't worry about it at all.

As I've been improving, I've realized that my distances gaps between wedges are incredibly varied and nowhere near consistent at all. I'm willing to replace a few wedges now or have some bent, but I really don't know where to start. Right now, I have a 50* wedge from the Taylormade R7 iron set and it seems to have a lot of bounce. I also have a 56* Vokey wedge that seems to have the standard bounce, and then the 60* Adams Golf lob wedge that seems to have little to no bounce at all. I hit the 50* about 100-105 yards, the 56* about 75 yards, and the 60* is incredibly inconsistent in terms of distance when I take a full swing. When varying swing size to change distances, I almost never try it with the 50* and the 60*, mostly with the 56* only. I feel like I'm guessing too much from inside 100 yards and would really like to fix this. So if anyone could offer some recommendations, I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much

I feel like there's a simpler solution to this than anyone realizes. Take about three clubs from the set, bring them to your local golf galaxy or dicks or wherever (authorized callaway dealer), and have them analyzed side by side to the matching clubs from a store set. I'm sure that wherever you bring them wouldn't have a problem with this, and it would yield a straightforward answer. If they aren't fake, everything is fine and you can explain that to future buyers if you have to. If they are fake, then you have a very strong argument to get your money back from the site. By doing it this way, you wouldn't need to send the clubs out, and you don't have to live with the doubt in the back of your mind. Also, apparently you should also check the weight of the clubs side by side along with the aesthetics. There is supposedly a very noticeable difference in the fake clubs.

Seriously, if you took that there could be some really bad mojo along with that thing. You made the right choice and will possibly be rewarded with a nicely hit 5-wood in your next round perhaps.

I stopped my round today after 13 holes to watch the back 9 and am not regretting my decision one bit.
-
I think that the main benefit of today's round for Tiger though, is that it takes a lot of the pressure off to go super low tomorrow in order to play catch up. He can be more patient and let the opportunities come to him.
-
I actually came back and my ball striking was as good as it's ever been, but I think that's just because I've been swinging in my room all winter in front of a mirror. What really was off was my short game and putting. >40 putts per round in 2 times out
-
Dear Tiger, Please for once follow through on a good round with another one. Whatever you do, please don't go out and shoot a mediocre 73 after your 66. Use this round as a confidence boost and maybe finally silence all the critics. That is all. Yours Truly, A Golf Fan

So what's the census, one under for Tiger after the first round a positive or negative thing? On one hand he missed a good amount of chances but on the other, he didn't blow up and he played some solid golf. I say positive. I mean overall his first round average is 72.something, so technically he's doing better than most times.

Does anyone actually hit into the fairway bunker on 10? It appears that it's about 30 yards from the green yet too far to drive into. I just can't see any pro being in there.

It sounds to me like it's probably you club path being way too outside in. If I have my ball flight laws correct, with your outside in swing path you would slice any time the club is square to the target, but not to the club path and then straight pull it when you finally are able to close your club face enough in time to make it square to your swing path. The club is probably flying way open relative to even the target line when you get those sh***s. I know because I had literally the exact same problems last year. I really worked on fixing my path and swing plane to make everything else eventually line up correctly. Also a little tip that helped me get my club face in the right place was having a stronger club face at the top of my backswing (more pointed towards the sky). It helped me get rid of my shanks (even with a terrible swing path) and I could kind of aim right and rely on pulling the ball. Not a permanent fix but it'll let you at least hit a straight ball most of the time until you get you path fix. I hope this helps and anyone, correct me if I'm wrong.

This thread has been revived from 10+ pages back at least 4 times already, yet I have no idea how
-
Exactly, which is why you don't just get a hernia and then get back to playing in the next few days without surgery and rehab.
-
Oh, I didn't know they were calling a bruised ego an "abdominal hernia" now a days

So many of you guys are so spoiled. On long island, there is no public range that even has the option of grass; only way out east which would be about a two hour drive from where I live. Some places are better than others, but I make due no matter what.

Apparently, if he kept at it for about another 3 years in the minors he could have had a shot at the bigs (According to ESPN 30 for 30 "Michael Rides the Bus").

Interviewing A Golf Pro Looking For Some Questions
iPutt replied to Bill Bowman's topic in Golf Talk
If you're looking for technical stuff, I think what the kurisu posted are the best things to ask. I don't know if it's what you're looking for or not, but I would ask what their worst student "horror story" is, and ask what they did about it. I think it would add humor to any interview piece you were doing. -
Temperatures are supposed to get close to, if not into the 40's here in the Boston area this week with a little bit of rain Sunday too. Am I being a little bit too optimistic thinking that the foot/foot and a half of snow will be gone by the end of this week.....?
