for those who have hit the AP1 and AP2
ChrisMc replied to gomery012's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have the AP2's with PX 5.5's, and love them, and they've helped me down from 12 to 9.8 so far this year. The AP1's just looked too bulky much like my Zing2's I had played years with, and I wanted a players type iron, to be able to tell when I had hit it well and therefore helping my iron play overall. Took me a while to fully bed in with them, but wouldnt go back. -
Are you really good enough to play your equipment
ChrisMc replied to AbsoluteZero's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I changed from Ping Zing2's, which I'd used for 12+yrs, to AP2's last September, and wouldnt go back. Yes they took me a few months to get used to them, partcularly the lack of offset etc, and perhaps less weight in the heads, but they are now feeling fab. I'm off 11, and a fairly good ball striker, so go and demo an iron or 2,and see what you think. I also tried Mizuno's, and altho I didnt like them as much, in hindsight that could have ben more to do with the shafts - Dynamic Gold as opposed to the ProjectX in the AP's. Whatever you buy, get fitted, if you are serious about improving, you cant afford not to. -
I very much doubt Titleist will bring out more irons next year, so choose betwen the AP's or the ZB's and get on with it.
-
Or pay for some lessons ? A 3 iron should do your 200yds just fine.
-
Anyone using one yet, and whats your opinions pls ?? Me,......I cant wait, I've been invited down to Titleist to feature in a Custom Fitting session for the new 909 Drivers, as part of a UK Golf magazine feature. Apparently, we'll be fully custom fitted, with the benefit of the full Titleist Launch monitors and swing analysis technology, in return for our opinions etc, and the best part,.....wait for it,......is that the techicians will make up our 'perfect spec' Driver and give it to us FOC So, in the deepest depths of a British -3 winter, I just now need to keep my swing on tickover .........

My own course here in the UK doesnt have a 'soft spike's only' rule, and a good few members, including myself, much prefer metal traditional spikes. I find that in anything other than completely dry conditions, soft spikes just clog up and are a pain in the @ss. Obey course rules, yes, but given a choice,.........

Just been across in Florida, and couldnt resist snapping up 2 pairs of FJ Classic Premier Dry's for $179 each Black with Black Croc Saddle & White with Tan Croc Saddle . Ive always loved the Classics, but £200+ over here is too steep, so couldnt beleive these 'Factory Blemished' pairs for such a steal, and only one of the shoes has even the slightest mark on it Pretty sure I'll only use them in the summer here in UK, so has anyone any tips on keeping these in pristine shape ? I do look after my shoes, and rarely play in shoes that arent clean & polished and ready to go,....I just dont feel complete in mucky shoes Cheers.

Natural draw, but can fade when required.....usually !

Are you a digger, picker or a sweeper?
ChrisMc replied to titaniummd's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Pick/Sweep are the same thing ...surely ? I generally sweep my longer irons, 3/4/5 etc, but as I go down, the better the divot . -
I run my own Travel Consultancy aimed at the "Discerning' end of the market, from an office at home in the UK.

Never on the course, only take a Locozade Sport or something. Usually a couple of pints after the game tho, to celebrate or commiserate :-/

My G5 because it was the 1st Driver I tried and could hit well, simple as that. Still works fine. - 260-300yds consistently. WarBird 5 Wood - because it was picked up cheaply 'to try a 5 wood', and quite simply goes a mile for me, consistently. Steel shafted and uber-reliable. Might be tempted with a 4wood, but wont part with the War Bird anyway. AP2's - as I wanted a better set of 'players' clubs, and after an unsure start, i'm hitting them very well now. Vokeys: Just got these too, and am so miffed that they havent been in my bag years before, they're awesome. Simple as. 2Ball Putter : Nice weight, nice feel, it works for me. except sometimes......

Improve Your Game with Shaped Shots
ChrisMc replied to kc8kir's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Absolutely. Easy as that. And it works. -
Maybe he fancies playing in front of, ......errr how shall I put it .......more considerate galleries ? No one shoutin 'Get in da hole !' or 'Your da man ! ' at horrendous pitch before you've even finished your swing....... But maybe not, maybe he's had an offer he cant refuse ? *runs and hides*

www.brough-golfclub.co.uk Tight Par 68 here in East Yorks, UK. I like it. Some stunning others on here though !
-
I cant understand why the'yd use a system like that, it gives people the option to come off anytime they have a good front 9, without further risk. Very strange.....
-
Boy I wish I had that system here in the UK, I'd be a scratch golfer !! Loads of times Ive sat in the Half way house, eating my bacon sandwich and feeling the warm glow of a 1 or 2 over gross front 9, only to go out and play the back 9 in 12 over or similar !! Dohhhhhhhhh

Valid Complaint or Whining? Westwood on Weekley...
ChrisMc replied to EquipmentJunkie's topic in Tour Talk
It was all over the news here, altho hasnt been specifically shown, and I cant find it on YouTube as yet. I think you'll find I didnt comment on the cheering in any way at all ? The 'Ole Ole Ole' chanting was just as bad in my opinion, and precisely why i stated that the whole Ryder Cup format brings out elements in the crowd I dont like. Its just the 'Get in da hole' 'You're da man' "Finish him off' "miss da green' cries that I personally just find unnaceptable and ungentlemanly. I'm not sure what was said to Lee Westwood at any point, but he specifically refrred to some comment about his mother being shouted, and as much as you'd like to think it didnt happen, I cant think of why anyone would make that up. As far as Boo Weekley is concerned, I just think he was a little carried away by the event and didnt think about his actions. Like someone commented, he's perhaps a little agricultural in a lot of ways, and wasnt quite as up to speed on etiquette as he maybe should have been, but he seemed gracious enough in truth and he certainly can play some damn fine golf. Which is true for the whole US team, they played absolutely fantastically, and fully deserved the win this time. Simple as. -
Again, Possible ? Yes. Likely ? Absolutely not. To achieve what you're going to try to will mean that you would have to dedicate so much time to practise & playing, that you may well end up losing the girlfriend anyway, so make your choice ! Oh, and you're going to have to be incredibly talented naturally too .

Valid Complaint or Whining? Westwood on Weekley...
ChrisMc replied to EquipmentJunkie's topic in Tour Talk
Some of the comments on this thread are pretty strong one way or another, so as a Brit, I'll tactfully add my own thoughts as best I can, and as delicately as I can. Firstly, Im not sure the whole Ryder Cup format is a good thing, it just seems to bring out the worst in a lot of people and result in much too strong rivalry's for just a bit of fun, which is all it is . There isnt any prize money, (that I know of ?), and the best players in the world simply play for 'bragging rights' for the next 2years. However, it seems to be popular with the players, and I can understand that, after all, they are so used to playing week-in week-out as single players, with the resultant pressures that must bring. However, and I mean no offence here, when the Cup is played in the US, there does seem to be a helluva lot of 'Get in the Water', "finish him off' kind of cheers that there just simply no space for in Golf, Period. Its an honourable game that is reduced to soccer style levels when that kind of attitude is introduced, and its shameful, and very bad sportsmanship. Even Azinger stoked the fire when he suggested it was ok for the crowd to cheer Europe's missed putts, I mean, come on, he & Faldo talked about promoting good sportsmanship and then he says this ? As a Brit, what inspires all of the 'GET IN DA HOLE' shouts from the crowd in the US ?? It just simply spoils watching Golf, and I think you will find that the reason why most, (not all) US players genuinely like coming across to Europe to play Golf. Crowds are generally quieter, no shouting & hollering, but merely polite applause for genuinely good shots. I like the US, have spent a lot of time over there, as I'm in the Travel Industry, and for my own vacations etc, and I will continue to do so. Its a wonderful land full of very friendly and genuine people, but sadly, most of Europe watching the US Golf events dont form that opinion, purely from the behaviour of the golfing crowds we see week in week out on TV. Get rid of the idiots in the crowds guys, it really would be worth it. -
Any thoughts anyone pls ? Recently changed my irons from Zing2's , which I have had for over 12yrs, and now got Titleist AP2's. The Zings were 3' upright (white lie ) and the AP's are 2' , which was reccomended when I demo'd them. ProjectX 5.5 shafts. Now my bad shots have always been a push or an over-draw left, but with these AP's , I seem to be consistently hitting straight right of target. Only played 3/4 rounds so far, and I love the clubs, so perhaps just getting used to them, or could the 1' lie difference be a factor ? Or.....should I get my @ss to for a lesson to sort it out ?

Simple is best as far as I am concerned......thats why to compliment my 46 AP2 Pitching Wedge, I've ordered the 54/10 & 60/04 Spin Milled Vokey's
-
Hi Jimmy, exactly the same dilemma here for me as I'm considering a couple of Vokeys. However, Ive just played a match against a 1 H/Capper (lost3 &2) and he had the 54/10 & 60/4 Vokey Spin Milled, and said he thought it was best set-up in his opinion. After seeing him stop his ball 2/3 feet from the pin on at least 6/7 times from around the green, I think I'll be ordering mine pretty dam soon too. If only we could buy practise time too eh ?
