The balls that some of my partners play might as well be yellow. I'm a purist. Stay with white!

I definitely agree!! Even mis-hits are not horrible...well...most of the time! But there was this day........
-
I don't know what state ya'll live in, but the majority of courses that have any yardage to them is almost 100% carts! Typically, when there are walkers in front of us, unless they are accurate ball strikers, they make life miserable for golfers behind them. It's a lot faster to get to an errant tee shot with a cart than it is to have a guy walking to it. On the other hand, I have seen walkers that move along pretty fast..but they were gamers. With that said...I rarely see them on west central florida golf courses, unless its a short municipal par 60 or 62.

I can't help wondering!! On the first video, I heard the ball hit something. On the second video...where did that ball go to?? I didn't see a net..so.....just wondering! I watched it 4 times...and couldn't tell!! Other than that, your swing seems very balanced..but a tad stiff armed. I would love to be that flexible in my upper body! Must be an age thing!

Well guys...I had a horrible day at golf....cussed...verbally abused my clubs.....and technically made an ass out of myself! THERE...I admit it! I was NOT proud!
-
BOY!! You sure set off the "Prankster" in me with that post! That's some good stuff!
-
I just posted a new thread on EXACTLY what you are talking about! The difference is...I played last weekend and shot an 80 at a more difficult course and come out today and shoot a 95 at a wide open goat pasture! I feel the pain!

It started out this morning...getting ready for golf. HHmmm...it was 10:15 am, temperature around 61 degrees. What to wear!!! long Pants..shorts..long pants...shorts....long sleeve...short sleeve...! Decision Shorts and short sleeve polo!! My brother-in-law lives about 2 hours away..so we meet half way between the two cities. During the week, he makes a tee time at a course..I thought...up in Spring Hill, about 1 1/2 hours away from my home. Ok....I'm taking the long cruise up to the course...I'm tired...the heat in the truck is making me woozy...kinda of like I'm in dream land. I finally get to the course and I call my Brother in Law and say..."Hey...where are you?" After about 30 seconds of him explaining where his truck is, it has finally been determined that I am at the wrong course. I have driven 1 1/2 hours to a course when it should have been the one that was only 45 minutes from my home. After a few hundred swear words and a mini temper tantrum by yours truly, he said..."we'll wait for ya!" I thought..."well that's nice of him!" 40 minutes later in traffic...I arrive at the correct course....stressed! Straight to the tee box I go!! First shot...."BOOM!!!" Right down the center!! Well..this may not be a bad day after all! That was the LAST good thing to say about my game!! I did not hit ONE GREEN IN REGULATION!!! NOT ONE!! A few good drives....a couple decent putts...a couple decent chips....and come in from a disastrous round..two mulligans...and a 95! OUCH!!!!!!!! I fell apart today!! Absolutely disintegrated. I think I made the lady blush that was in a foursome behind us with a few emotional outbursts after a chunked shot or two. LESSON FOR THE DAY!!! Listen VERY carefully as to where you will be playing that weekend. I heard "Silver ____! It was Silver something else! Why do courses have to name everything with a "Silver" There must be a hundred of them in Florida. When you are aggravated...don't play! Take a break and go to the driving range. When you hit a crappy shot...get over it! There is always plenty of golf to play for the day! I held on to my failures from the 2nd hole on! I just could NOT shake it!! I tried...believe me....but then another crappy shot would fire it all back up again! When your golf play starts to become "funny" to you...you are on the way to a nervous breakdown! The good thing...no clubs thrown over 30 yards....no one was injured in the game....and the lady behind us learned a couple new words from my personal collection! You can never stop learning...that's my motto! I embarrassed myself a couple times..therefore learning the lessons of the day. Thanks for letting me vent! I did not deserve to play the game of golf this day in February, 2010. I was pitiful!

I may be wrong...but think about this. If you are hitting down on the ball with a knock down shot...you are hitting the ball with much more of a descending blow than if you were to meet it with a normal strike. That forces more backspin on the ball, thus causing it to spin upward. Is the ball back in your stance? I play with a guy that hits way back in his stance and he is very inconsistent. Sometimes he can hit with a 8 iron on a 175 yard hole and is successful, but more than not...he is off target and short. Also....use an abbreviated follow through. If you have a high finish, that could lead to more back spin causing more of your woes.

I got my butt whooped this last weekend...so I'm pushing my brother in law to give me a chance at redemption during the week. He asked if one butt whooping wasn't enough. I replied with a &%$#@ you! I AM GOING TO MAKE THIS SHAFT WORK!!!!!!!!! I WILL BEAT THE SNOT OUT OF HIM THIS WEEK!!! Repeat after me...you will play well...you will play well!

I have a fat head...ssoooooo I have to be picky. I bought a cool Odyssey hat from a local golf shop and it fit so well...I bought three more that were identical. I have Titelist, Ping, Underarmour, TW NIKE (my wife refuses to let me wear anymore), Taylormade..(when I used them). The Odyssey hat is the only hats that fit comfortably..besides my Harley Hats.
-
I bought one of those Pat Perez "Red" boxing glove covers for my Ping 24 degree hybrid. It is my knock-out club and damn near the only club I hit perfectly 85% of the time. The rest are stock. I am considering the Ping contour head covers for my Ping 3 wood and the 21 degree hybrid...but have a hard time spending $30 on one head cover. That is where I get cheap....(on things I absolutely don't need). I can make excuses for other golf related stupid expenditures...but the head covers...I have difficulty with. I have mental issues.

From wrist to middle finger, the length is 8 1/4". My middle finger is 3 1/4". I use a standard grip. I could get away with using a standard grip with 2 wraps of tape, but the regular works just fine. With that said...remember this. Many players tend to grip with their hands, not their fingers. If you grip with your hands, the grip will be uncomfortable and feel small. Used your fingers..like your supposed to...and the fit will be correct and cramping will disappear. I know...cuz' I'm a recovering whole hand gripper.

Anyone tried the new Callaway Tour balls?
chrt396 replied to youngskip40's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I boght a dozen Tour i(Z)'s 2 weeks ago from GolfSmith. I have been playing the Tour I(X). The differences as I can see is the following. 1) they do seem to jump off the face a little hotter. but saw no real appreciable distance gains. (But then again...I'm no Iron Byron) 2) they have a clickier sound to them when you hit them...kind of like you cracked them. 3) the covers scuff up more than the old version. 4) The spin on the greens using my Vokeys was MUCH more pronounced. I usually spin backwards maybe a couple feet or at least, a dead stop. With the new ball, I was spinning back 6-8 feet. With a hybrid 21 degree from 205 yds out, the ball was stopping within 3 feet of where the ball hit the green. Conclusion...mission accomplished with developing a ball that would negate the groove rules that are to become effective next year. -
I agree with the "Wind Sucks!" philosophy. I had the worst game in a year today!! I shot a 95...and that was with a "Mulligan" that I had to fight for with my brother-in-law. I was so bad that I couldn't even get mad. Now THAT is bad! I did birdie two holes and still sucked the rest of them!

I have a question that is plaguing me. My normal driver is a Callaway FT-IQ, 9 degree, with a UST V2 Pro Force regular flex shaft. My swing speed is between 92-96 mph. My tempo is smooth...not herky jerky. I got this wild hair up my butt to experiment. I bought a friends FT-IQ 10 degree loft driver, and replaced the worthless Fujikura shaft in it with a Aldila VS 60 Proto "By You" shaft in a regular flex. I got it all put together last night and proceeded to the course today to try it out. It was an extremely windy day in west central Florida...wind at around 20-30 mph, so this was not a true test of the clubs performance. Plus the rest of my game sucked today...so who knows what it really could have done...but here is the question. I have heard that the NV Proto plays stiff. I bought the 60 series..not 65...and it states that the swing speed should be 90-100 to play a regular flex. All the web sites state that unless you really load up on this shaft, that it robs you of distance. Again, I really couldn't say for sure due to weather conditions but I noticed the following characteristics. On my UST shafted club , I play the ball even with my arch on the left foot just inside the front toe. It seemed that the only flaw that I had with that shaft is an occasional fade to damn near a small slice as I got a bit more tired. T he VS Proto shafted club, with the ball played in the same location seemed to yank left...straight as an arrow. Only ONCE...when I know for a fact that I left my hips open, did the ball slice. A definite swing flaw. I started playing the ball back about an inch or two in my stance and the ball seemed to straighten out quite a bit. What characteristics of this shaft/loft combo make the ball position and flight seem so different. I started experimenting with the 10 degree loft because I heard that more height...more carry...more distance. However, it seemed as if the distance was a little more zapped with the VS PROTO. Is the shaft too advanced for my swing speed and tempo? Again...it was a windy day in Tampa Bay..so it may be premature to even ask..but just fishing for comments. By the way...not only did I play like crap...the Vikings lost. My man Brett Favre choked in the final minute. I think I'll go stick my head in the toilet.

Judging by the smoothness and fluidity of your swing...I'm surprised you are not pro!

Is my Scotty Cameron out of whack?
chrt396 replied to bunkerputt's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Don't feel alone. I'm going through the same situation you are on my new Scotty. First it was a mis-aligned grip. I changed it over a couple days ago...so we will se if that was the culprit. -
Is this your current set...a set you are thinking of buying.....a friends set??? The signiture is totally different then the set you list. Personally...if you have Callaway clubs..the best looking bag out there..IMHO..is the Callaway Diablo cart bag! That bag is beautiful!! Great colors and design!

I just manned up and decided that i was going to buy a nice putter...so I bought the Cameron Squareback from Golfsmith, here in Florida. The headcover that comes with it is butt ugly!! So...I went in search for a good looking Scotty Cameron headcover. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THESE STUPID THINGS GO FOR??????? It's absolutely amazing to me. $250 for a good looking leather headcover. I spoke with customer service at Cameron and she said that it was nothing to buy these COLLECTIBLES for upwards to $2,000!!!! She asked me..."You are not going to game it...are you?" I said..."Well...yeah...I thought I was going to." She mentioned that guys just collect them and keep them knowing that some day..they will be worth a lot of money! Now THIS is a cover that i think I would have bolted to my bag! I can imagine me going in for a soda and a dog at the turn and coming out to a violated golf bag..and the putter and the cover missing! I would die!! There is nothing like advertising what you have in the bag with a cover like that! I think I am in unchartered waters with this putter.

Master Scotty Cameron Putters: Worth It or Not? Thread
chrt396 replied to JEWMAH9701's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I was thinking the same thing!! I'm glad you said it. There would be nothing worse than spending all that money...having all that pressure to do well....then 3 or 4 putt. I'd go jump in a lake and drown myself. -
Best clubs for someone who sucks?
chrt396 replied to maraca2020's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would probably look for a decent used set that is somewhat forgiving to let him practice with to make sure he's going to stay with the game. I gave my neighbor a set of knock-off taylormade's with the bubble shaft from back in the early 90's to try them see if he really wanted to play the game. I re-gripped them for him and went on a couple rounds with him to give him some pointers. He actually had a decent swing, but he is not the kind of golfer that wants to dedicate much of his time to practice, so the clubs sit in his garage. Let him go out and get his own clubs...and pay for them...and then practice..practice..practice. I wouldn't worry about forgiving at this point. If his swing sucks, no club will correct that. -

Just can't learn to hit a driver
chrt396 replied to albatross's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Hi...My name is Phil...and I'm a recovering slicer!! What I have done that has helped me dramatically...and I mean HUGE..is this. I take the club back so that if I looked behind me, the club head would be to the right of my body pointed directly parallel, but the big difference is on the downswing. I swear..if you do this you will correct the slice. Keep your right elbow tucked in a bit. I don't mean to keep it right in on your body, but keep it close. That will promote the inside to square and your shot may find its way down the center of the fairway, and possibly with a little draw. I have doing it for 3 months now, and I no longer fear the right side. I'm tellin' ya...it works!! It's the way you SHOULD swing and a motion that no one ever really concentrates on. I also find that when I do this, my balance is better and I am able to complete my follow through into that picturesque finish that you see on TV. Try it!! My bill is in the mail.
