  1. Congrats! You're on your way to some great scores if your first round in the 80s was an80.
  2. Let me clarify - I was tired when I wrote the last one. Par 4. Drive was in bounds, second shot went OB, I "pretended" that I hit my 4th stroke (including OB penalty) to the drop point. 5 on, 6 and 7 missed putts, 8 in the hole. I'm confident in posting my score on my handicap, because I believe I provided the evidence for the most likely what-I-would-have-scored standard. Besides, ESC would have made me stop counting at 9 strokes anyway. Yesterday I was excited but worried, in a game of honor, about bragging up something questionable. Today, I'm just excited to get out there and do it again, without the question mark.
  3. I need a ruling here. I was playing today and wasn't really expecting a good score. Lots of par puts missed, etc. Last hole, I put my second shot over and left of the green and, once I get up there, I'm sure I hit it ob into the parking lot area or a vacant lot. I was too lazy to go re-hit, so I dropped around where my ball went out. I chipped on and 3 putted. I scored it an 8, taking the penalty for the OB and assuming that I would have have hit my re-hit 4th stroke to where I dropped. I put an 8 on the card. With that 8, it turns out I shot a 97 on the day. Can I claim that I broke 100, or is that too big an asterisk to count it?
  4. I carry 1-3-5, 3(h), 4-9, PW, SW, 60* and putter. If I had to drop a club, it'd be my 5 wood, because I almost never hit that. I can't play it out of the rough like I can my 3h, and I'm not a long driver so I need the 3 wood's distance on a long 5. As for the 60*, I'm a high handicap and that is one of my best purchases. I've got a Nike Ignite set, meaning fat cavity-backs. The fat sole was resulting in some bad mishits around the greens on less-than-full swings. I was a mess, afraid of taking big swings, making contact with the sole of the club, and sending the ball 50 yards over the green. The result was I either did that anyway, or made contact with such a weak swing that I never got close. With a 60*, I can take a much more full swing and not worry about a misshit. Additionally, as I'm playing law-spin balls, the high loft is the only way a guy like me, with a slow swing speed, can get the ball to not roll too far. Just my 2 cents.
  5. I'd love to get lower ball flight on my CGB Max, but no one seems sure if I do that by increasing both perimeter weights, decreasing the middle weight, or pluging the holes with gum.
  6. This. My Sasquatch stand bag is my favorite piece of equipment. it fits on carts ok, and is perfect for everything else I want it for: 14 way divider, light, great shoulder straps, legs pop out well, looks fantastic. Its about 170 new but you can find old models (different colors) for 1/2 that. I rant and rave about my bag to every golfer I know.
  7. I'm hitting a 12 degree, and I'm having the same issue. I brought mine a bit lower than it was going by moving the ball back a bit in my stance, inside my left foot. I'm not hitting up on the ball as much, so I'm delofting the driver a bit, which has gotten me better results.
  8. Congrats! I'm hoping to join you soon. Actually, Saturday I had a 94 on the card going into the last hole, a 170 par three with nothing particularly interesting. Trees, rough, over the green, back over the green, almost over the green, 3 putt. 102.
  9. Fellow high cap guy here. I found that the consistency of always playing the same ball was a huge difference for me when I was trying to go from awful (130) to bad (105). Also, I found a ball designed to minimize spin off the driver, the Nike Ignite, which was where my drives went wrong. As I got a little better, the fact that the Ignite didn't feel solid to me became an issue. My new love is the Nike Mojo. It is like $20 for 2 dozen on clearence, and I'm considering buying a lifetime supply. Besides flying straight, and rolling well on putts, I've discovered that I can get balls to hold the green, something I haven't been able to do with any high cap ball, whether expensive (Nike 1 Vapor) or cheap (lots and lots of stuff).
  10. I should say I have a really slow swing. Like, measured in hours per mile slow. :)
  11. I grabbed one of these in the winter. I was hitting the ball like nobody's business for my frist 4 or 5 times out. It is supposed to be draw bias, but I was hitting it straight as an arrow. Now, of course, I got dumb. I was getting upset that it wasn't going far enough, because I bought the HT model. So I started trying to adjust to bring it lower. Now I've goofed my game entirely and can't hit my driver to save my soul. Its an extremely good club at the current prices. I just wish I could pay someone to hit it for me.
  12. I am a high-to-off-the-charts handicap, so I almost never try and work a shot. However, for some reason, I can with my 3 iron hybrid. My shot flight is generally low, so on a second shot on a long par 4, or from the rough, I attempt a sharp draw or fade at least once a round, and I've got about an 80% chance of it working. This is out of my Nike Ignite iron set, so game improvment and workability are not mutually exclusive all the time.
  13. While we're at it, I'd also like to know if replacing the 1g with a 10g weight is still conforming with the rules. Man, I ask a lot of questions.
  14. Congrats! I'm hoping to join the under 100 club this year, too!
  15. Does anyone know where to get weights on the cheap for these? I mean, I just priced it new, and it is cheaper to get a second driver from TM preowned than it is to get the weights.
  16. I have a CGB Max driver High Trajectory, reg flex shaft. I was really happy when I got it, but now I see that the trajectory is a little to high for me as I get better. Can I compensate for that with more weighting to bring flatten out the shape and add some roll?
  17. this year I'm suddenly driving the ball well, and I noticed I was spending my range time hitting shots inside 100 yards. I've found that 90 minutes walking a par 3 is cheaper than a jumbo bucket, more fun, and a lot more helpful to me. As a golfer just starting to get decent (been getting close to breaking 100) I find the time on the course to be far more valuable.
  18. I used to have this happen sometimes. I finally figured out 2 of my hats were too tight.
  19. Congrats! I hope to be making a similar post this year. I've shot under 50 on my 2 9-hole outings today, so I'm hoping to brake 100 early this year.
  20. Read your post again. The answer to "should I replace something I hit well" is no. I wouldn't even mess with the shaft as long as you keep hitting it well. EDIT: It might be worth trying the newest Nike fairways, I guess, but I'm a Nike **** and even I went Taylormade on my 1-3-5.
  21. I am a loyal ignite player, but got talked into some Vapors. Might just be mental, but I didn't like them. I'm going to be grabbing Ignites wherever I see them on sale, and trying the Gamer as suggested here.
  22. A friend of mine, a 12-14 handicap, went in loving the look of the AP2 and had to be pushed to try out the AP1. He hit the AP1 about 5 yards farther, on average, and with an extremely consistent ball flight, compared to the spread on the AP2. He got the AP1, and has no regrets. The AP2s look just beautiful, but the 1s should not be ignored.
  23. This was the single most important thing I got out of lessons. Before, I could hit one drive 10 yards and one 250, and I couldn't tell you the difference. After about 10 lessons, I practically didn't need to watch the ball to know the results. I think some of that also came from learning on some 1982 Wilson Blades. I'd suggest lessons, cause a pro will tell you "that went left because. . . and you'll start to feel what's happening in your game.
  24. The last Golf magazine talked about how us high 'cappers shoot our handicap or better on 15.5 out of 18 holes. The 2.5 blow-up holes are where we kill ourselves. Personally, if I could hit a shot exactly how I wanted 40% of the time, I'd be either thrilled to death or bored by the consistency of the game.
