Fred Couples voted into the Hall of Fame, Creating some Controversy
photoballmarker replied to mvmac's topic in Tour Talk
By the narrowest of margins Fred Couples should be in the golf Hall of Fame. That narrowest of margins to me is "Boom Boom". Fred "Boom Boom" Couples is loved by the fans and golf is entertainment and part of being a Hall of Famer is to be appreciated by the fans. Mark O'Meara had a similar career but what nickname is he known by? So, the voters got it right by the narrowest of margins is very appropriate. -
Since, when can't you anchor any other club to your body if you want? If anchoring a club to your body is an advantage then do it. Golf like any other sport evolves with new techniques. Anchoring a putter is just a new technique. Just like the jump shot was to basketball. I guess you and Tiger Woods would want us to return to the two handed set shot in basketball also.

I'm going with Tiger Woods winning four tournaments and one will be a major. The fields are so tough these days that winning more than that is nearly impossible. The Masters and US Open will be Tiger's best chances of winning majors. I'm pretty sure a lot of work is now being done on the short game and that is the missing piece for him and he knows it.

Hank Haney's Book "The Big Miss" about his time teaching Tiger
photoballmarker replied to mvmac's topic in Tour Talk
Haney has no business writing a book about his time as a coach with TIger Woods unless Woods gives him permission. He was an instructor and Woods was his student. That is a trust relationship that needs to be honored. -
The Biggest Secret? Slide Your Hips
photoballmarker replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I like this discussion on the hips and stronger left side. Only when I do those two things do I hit the ball hard. The photo of Faldo at impact is terrific.- 949 replies

I vote no. Putting is the most unique part of golf. The argument suggesting it is an unfair advantage is silly. It is only valid if you are not allowed to use one while your opponents can. If everybody is allowed to use them then it is not an unfair advantage. The argument that it takes less skill to use is also really silly unless you are going to outlaw every putter other that the two sided flat bullseye. The argument about anchoring is also silly because the putter is already anchored by the hands. Wow, I can hear it already, you putter touched a part of your body that is not your hands, two stroke penalty.

The best ball markers are not the ones you buy, they are the ones you make. I have three favorites that we have made. A photo of Char and I at a laua in Hawaii, a shot of the kids on a boat, and a great photo of Autzen Stadium, where the Ducks rule the world. Sort of interesting, all my photo ball markers are of places away from the golf course. Wonder what that means???

I like your design it looks very nice. I really like the idea of alignment markers combined with a line on the golf ball. As long as people don't get silly about being to precised. In my case it would be point it right or left of the hole so I can remember which way the putt breaks. For our Photo Ball Markers http://www.photoballmarker.com we put an alignment arrow on the back for two reason. One so people can use it or try it as an alignment marker and two to point back toward where the ball was if you are getting out of somebody elses putting line. Good luck with your effort.

Well done and congrats. Looks like a chip in on #5. Nice shot.

Point made and accepted!!! However, we are better than LSU this year and we will be better than LSU next year when we meet in Dallas. I'm not saying the #SEC isn't a very good conference they are. But, if you compare bowl records and conference matchups the past five years the SEC is not the best conference by record in either category. I don't think the Pac-10 is real strong this year. Stanford, Oregon and USC are very good but the rest of the league is down. But, for the past four or five years it has been as tough or tougher than the SEC. The Pac-10 has proven it in non-conference games and bowl games but only USC gets any recognition. Oregon is getting respect this year but we have to beat everybody by 30 and average 50 pts a game to earn that respect. It is a different standard than an LSU. And, way way different than a Florida or Alabama.

The SEC plays these games so they don't get beat by quality teams. Meanwhile, a Boise State and Utah get trashed for not playing tough teams. But, they will play anybody and anywhere. Seems like the SEC teams get a free pass when they schedule these silly opponents. Then we have to listen to how tough the SEC is. But, Oregon goes down to Tennessee and finds out the SEC isn't really that tough. We win by 30 after stinking it up for the 1st quarter. I guess playing Chattanooga State and Louisana - Monroe and Florida never leaving the state proves the SEC is so freaking awesome. As of the Ducks, we are not afraid of any team or any conference. We have beaten Michigan when they were at the Top of the Big 10. We beat Oklahoma when they are at the top of the Big-12. We beat USC over and over when they are suppose to rule the universe. We still have games to play and win and we still can get beat. But, Oregon does not fear the SEC or any team in it. Come play us at Autzen anytime you want. We'll do a home and home with anybody. We may not win ever game. Boise State beat us, Ohio State beat us. But, we win our share and we do not hide from the tough games. Can the SEC teams say the same thing.
-
If we don't get to play the "FEARED" SEC this year, Oregon plays LSU next year at a neutral sight. We did squeak one by Tennessee at Tennessee. One think I notice is those "SEC" teams really shy away from playing any serious opponents in the non conference schedule.

Oregon Ducks are #1 in the BCS rankings for the first time ever. I remember sitting in Autzen Stadium years back and we were the only fans in Section 3. Oregon was getting destroyed and nobody was watching the game. Now, it is one of the craziest and loudest stadiums in the nation and the Ducks are one of the most entertaining college football teams in the land. Been amazing to see how far we have come and be fun to see how far we can go. Go Ducks!!!

I think it is really good for golf that Westwood became the Number 1 player in the world right at the end of the season. 1. The international players being #1 will build some excitement in the US and Europe. 2. Having a bunch of players battling for #1 will spark interest. 3. Tiger needs some short term goals to get back to being the great players we all know he is. Getting the #1 ranking back is a very good one. 4. Phil as always the bridesmaid and never the bride.

When is it too cold to stop playing golf?
photoballmarker replied to Uncle Peter's topic in Golf Talk
I'll vote never. Once the ponds freeze the water hazards are not near as difficult. -
Would not matter after they have the distance they would then have a conversation about the wind and what club to hit. Speed of play really isn't and shouldn't be an issue. TV just shows the shot and the fans are just watching certain players.

The 'share a personal golf tip' thread
photoballmarker replied to 8.5_Drive's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
My son Kelly gave me the best short putt tip I've ever heard. He says to look down into the back of the hole and hit your short putts to that spot. Works really well. -

All the great champions of my generation had a peer that forced each to new heights. Ali-Frazier, Chamberlain-Russell, Aaron-Mays, Jordan-Bird-Johnson, Nicklaus-Palmer and others. My issue with Phil is he gives out the impression that he is that peer to Woods. That is fine, providing he lives up to the challenge. But, he really hasn't. That being said, he is off to a great start for the year and Woods is not yet playing at his normal form. Phil has closed the gap on the Number One world ranking. "The Masters" is his opportunity to step up to the level of greatness that Tiger has risen. Perform well at "The Masters" and beat Woods and we just may get to see some epic battles between these two. A true Ali-Frazier rivalry. If not, then Tiger will have to continue to measure himself against the Nicklaus record book. And Phil, needs to quit pretending he can play at Woods level.

My son interned at Incline Village Golf Course - North Lake Tahoe a few summers ago as part of his PGM program with UNLV. He was working in the Pro Shop when one of the workers called in about a problem. The worker said "A bear is wandering around the 7th fairway and the groups are getting stacked up, what do you think we should do?" Chris replied back, "You go up tell that bear, he either needs to play faster or step aside and let the groups behind him play through." Chris said the radio went dead silent after his suggestion. Finally, after some seconds passed the reply came back. "AAhhh, Chris we don't thing we want to do that". After a few seconds of laughter he suggested hitting golf balls at the bear to drive him off the course and that convinced the bear to step aside.

I went with Duke, Memphis, North Carolina, Louisville with Duke winning it all. It's an emotional pick, watched Kyle Singler play in high school.

I've said Phil has not lived up to his part of the Tiger vs Phil matchup. But, I got to admit at this point in time and for this year it looks like he is ready. Game on for the Masters. Now, do they both show up? If so, it will be a great tournament.

Who's winning the 2009 Masters? Top 5 picks?
photoballmarker replied to dagolfer's topic in Tour Talk
1. Tiger Woods 2. Not Phil Mikkelsen And now the long shots: 3. KJ Choi 4. Adam Scott 5. Padraig Harrington We do need a tournament with Tiger and Phil in the same final group. But, Phil just doesn't hold up his end of the bargain.
