  1. I see two reasons why people don't appreciate it. The first is that it is a new concept and there are more veteran golf instructors and professionals who are going to stick to their guns. Funny thing is some of these veterans show some strong similarities. The second reason is that 15 handicap golfers go to the range and try to stack. After 4 or 5 miss hits, it becomes 'wrong.' If you really want to learn it, you can probably travel 2 hours from your home and see a qualified person, but I think this was the point to evolvr. Once you understand how to see the principles in action and apply the right piece at the right time, you hit the ball better right now. And how cool are the spectrums !
  2. Search for Mr. Barzeski's video in another thread. This would be the extreme of hitting down and out on the ball.
  3. At address, you're probably looking at around 30-35 degrees of forward flexion, and depending on your style, anywhere from 0-10 degrees of tilt away from the target. Golf swings that are flatter normally have more forward flexion at address because its easier to get the arms deeper and working around the body. There is a relationship between the path and the incline and it changes if the spine angle changes. Most players that have more flexion hit draws and those that are taller hit fades, but its not exclusive.
  4. Since Doral, O'Hair is working his hand path deeper and is now hitting a draw. He has alot of principles and I'm sure Andy is proud to see where O'Hair is today.
  5. I agree with you Tom. There are so many different putting strokes where they all work and they all have a few things in common. For the OP with 40+ putts per round, work on the tempo of your stroke and learn how it relates to how fast your ball rolls on the grass. This should take away 8-10 putts per round at least. If an issue is green reading, work on your speed control and you will start to see a better line. If you aren't getting the ball started online and the face is coming in at an odd angle, working on controlling the tempo of your stroke will help you square the face to your line.
  6. Wow, I can't believe that Chuck Quinton's name is even being considered here. There are a lot of people behind the tv cameras that have great influence on Tiger's decision for a new coach. Torrance would be a great choice but I'm not sure about the travel overseas. We haven't seen a lot of interviews with Foley but his beliefs, personality, and knowledge of golf has Tiger intrigued.
  7. Westwood has a busted left wing at impact but can still control the face. The left arm will bend because the pivot is slow or the right arm isn't working well to create width.
  8. I would say its controlling your speed. You can do it by feeling the time the ball rolls or trying to stop it in a certain spot - like a speed versus distance idea. If you can control your speed, next step is to learn how to read a green.
  9. There is some conflict with the intentions. You can't expect your head to stay steady AND get behind the ball. For those guys who love getting behind the ball, you'll see their head swivel or rotate. It allows for a bigger rotation but it messes with your focus with your eyeline. If you want to get behind the ball, set up as you normally would, bring your front foot to the back foot, start your backswing and step into the shot by planting your front foot before contact. I wouldn't recommend changing your eyeline. A different perspective changes your moves.
  10. Luke Donald has been working on losing the intial flex - You do have to remember that Faldo follows a leadbetter pattern focused on right knee flex, level hips, early plane shifts and stepper hand path.... all pieces that will flow if the right knee flex is maintained. Creating resistance in the backswing is a fundamental to Lead's camp, so we will see different pieces than what is prescribed under a philosophy with a standard knee action where the right knee loses flex. Faldo always preached staying in your spine angle but he had trouble actually doing it. When the knee stays flexed and the hips and shoulders are forced to turn more level, you have to stand up. Sir Nick also talks about his release alot, so when you have pivoted behind the ball and come out of your posture, a full rolling release is bound to happen. There have been players that have won alot of tournaments with a right knee that stays flexed, they just haven't been the best ball strikers too.
  11. who says the club hits the ball at 430? the clubface does not contact it here but this is the line that the hands should be directed towards. EVERY good striker hits it after 3:00. Talking about it any other way is absurd.
  12. Square to what? your path or your target line? what is square to swing direction? Square face to the target line with in inside swing path will give you a push DRAW. hitting at 430 with a face square to your target with the same path gives you a hook. I hope that some readers here will think twice before accepting this information as correct. It is so far from the truth.
  13. Look at swing vision? they have never shown an angle that will give you the look you are trying to tell me. Your information is inaccurate... no, its flat out wrong. If the club hit the back of the ball at 3:00 with a square clubface you would not hit it straight. Iacas, this being your site, you should know this, or refrain from posting the wrong information. If you are trying to hit the back of the ball from the top of your golf swing, you'll make every golf teacher in your area very happy - and make them more money. THis is the WRong idea to have. Your hands should have an aiming point in FRONT of the ball. Isn't there an "impact zone" discussion here? If the hands are going in front of the ball, the face will hit just past 3:00, with hopefully a somewhat open clubface, and when the ball finally leaves the face, the club is square. This site has frowned upon the correct information as discussed in the golfing machine, so if people here are looking for a quick tip that will get them nowhere, Iacas seems to be your guy to help you on your journey of never getting better. "the end"
  14. If 6:00 is the closest time to you and 3:00 is considered 'the back of the ball', the club face will hit the ball somewhere around 330. The hands should drive towards a 430 position and with the clubhead accelerating near impact, the clubhead will hit the back of the ball AFter 3:00. Leadbetter has 430 written on his practice balls at championsgate, Orlando. Anyone know why?
  15. Ideally you want to hit the ball at 430. the ball compressed to the face for about 3/4" which allows time for the club to rotate square to the target line, which is when the ball actually leaves the club If you hit it at 6:00 you'll hook it.
  16. I don't understand what you are saying. If you do it you're golden but if you do you're bound for back problems. ?? The right foot staying flat through impact is a product of using the ground effectively. The location of your right knee - the backswing anchor - will allow you to use the ground properly and it should go laterally during the downswing. How do you figure this helps maintain spine angle? If the knee moves OUT towards your target line (like mickelson) then your hips have to follow, and the hips end up underneath you and you end up in extension (standing up). The right foot and knee action will maintain the spine angle. Try hitting ball with your feet flat on the ground. I bet it goes farther.
  17. I look at it this way. What 'best quality' has the media given Tiger? His mental strength. A characteristic that must be strong with mental strength is emotional control, which goes out the window with most anabolic steroids. I have not seen Tiger lose his temper let alone let go of his emotions during competition. He has an intense workout plan and I don't think Keith Kleven (Tiger's trainer in vegas) would risk his reputation putting TW in the same boat as Bonds and others. I DO think we would all be naive to this that someone out there hasn't dabbled in the juice. DD worked out hard when he was #1 and then it disappeared just as fast as he did. Is there anyone else with a crazy workout plan that might need to recoup faster? is it over the counter in Fiji?
  18. Draw a straight line in the ground and get into your normal stance. If that was your backyard in the video, draw a line in the dirt. Swing it up, and on your way down - in slow motion to start - make sure your body movements support the slightly bent right arm past the golf ball. At first, try taking a divot as far down the line as possible. In order to take that divot, your hands will have to be ahead of the clubhead with a leaning clubshaft - great. Increase the speed of your swings, try to get that divot a little further forward. See how you have to straighten the right arm just to reach out to take the divot? the ball was back 6 inches ago, so it would have been bent thru impact. One thing we'll see in your next vid is more turn which can keep the angles bent - right wrist and right arm. Take this for what it is. If its too technical, focus on just the divot. That's almost brainless - but it is athletic. If you understand the ideas behind leverage and maintaining bent angles through a pivot supported (driven) body motion, you'll hit it a mile.
  19. We're not searching for resistance in the backswing through hips and shoulder seperation, we're trying to achieve an effect seperation the way down. The easiest way to demonstrate this is to take your swing to the top, and without the shoulders or arms moving, Can you turn your hips back towards the ball? They won't go far but if you can get a bit of this, you're on your way. The seperation of hips and torso cause a stretch to the muscles (both obliques, the trans-ab, lats, hip flexors, etc) and this stretch happens in the transition from backswing to downswing. A great stretch can only cause a shorten of the muscles (one of the stretch/shorten cycles) which causes the shoulders to work they way down. When the hips then slow down, its pulls the shoulders and creates one of the links in the kinetic chain. I agree with "doing what's natural". It's an athletic sport so it should be as natural as pitching a ball... so try to make this move by throwing something. In the gym, we have thrown medicine balls, and if you throw a 15 or 20 lb medicine ball in a rotational fashion - from one side of you to the other - without making it an arms throw.. you Will get the feeling of using the ground and your legs and hip to get the med ball to fly hard. For best results, do it from a slightly crouched or seated stance.
  20. I have read them all, and I have 5 fundamentals on me almost all the time. What you just said contradicts your original statement. The arms moving down does not shift the weight... the lead knee towards the target - the horizontal move - helps the arms come down - the vertical drop. THIS is the problem people have with golf. Bad information relayed to others. THe blind leading the blind.
  21. If the feet are flat through impact, that's all that really matters. You have great foot action which translates to great leg action. The back foot coming up tells US that the weight is going forward. Another good sign. If you can resist the right arm straightening out before impact, you'll be gold.
  22. it started well, with the down move, but the ending here is completely wrong. Lowering the arms transfers the weight? Not likely. How can a vertical move transfer weight horizontally? You're unwinding from the top, meaning the shoulders are over active too early in the transition. When your RIGHT shoulder starts to work out and not down, the arms go with it and the result is a complete disconnect from the lower half and no speed and steep into the ball.
  23. The X-factor 'thingy' was something that may have been before its time. Its a Brand name for a stage of the proper kinetic link... the proper body movements. The idea is that the shoulders and hips must seperate in order to create tension within the body so that the muscles can stretch and then shorten - which causes power! If you can stand in your golf stance, cross your arms across your chest, and move your shoulders independent of your hips and then move your hips independent of the shoulders, you can make this move. If you can't do this, then forget about proper sequencing and the Xfactor. Some people aren't strong enough in the core to do this and others have simply not done this before so the movement pattern is foreign. Try this exercise at home.
  24. Good observation. The Xfactor idea is decent but the attempt to get it like McLean wants it will be a direct path to a chiropractor. Zeph - do you really think Couples swing is effortless? I would contend that a swing with a "coil", or pivot, is less effort than all arms. Do you think hogan, sergio, camilo, etc.. had no effort in their swing? They have some of the best pivot actions in the game and drive that move harder than anybody. To make your pivot rotate hard takes almost all the effort and strength you have.
  25. I didnt' even notice the out of bounds stakes coming up from the shoes. :) I like how the feet are staying flat until he hits the ball. Are you hitting ProVs?
