  1. I hope it's respectable. Just went through and measured my drives at my home course to my most common landing zones: Avg. around 250. Low of 240 and a high of 290 (significantly elevated tee) but most seem to land consistently between 245 and 255.
  2. To each his own. I have a square driver and I feel more confident with it than my last non square driver. Until that time I regularly teed off with a three wood.
  3. I played with a guy that said "you're going to love it!" right after the ball left your club face. Problem is sometimes by the time it landed my partner and I weren't loving it. Now we say it only when someone hits a comical shot or soemthing equally ridiculous.
  4. I think four wedges are great, not only for the loft options but especially for the other characteristic of a wedge...bounce. I find that in any round I will use all my wedges, but rarely will I use my 4 wood, 3 and 4 hybrids in one round. I carry four: pw, 52/05*, 56/12*, and 60/06*. Not so much for the loft differences since I rarely hit full shots with either the 56 or 60 but because I may choose a club based on the bounce I need for the shot.
  5. I've said it before, I don't enjoy Miller's delivery and his I was going to predict that statements. The other guy I don't like is McCord and his ramblings.
  6. My wife and I fly in some IMO's pizza from St. Louis, close up the house and don't answer the phones. Some people eat crap on Superbowl sunday, we do it once a year during the Master's. Best part, no stupid half time show.
  7. how many times can one man finish a sentence with "huh Rog?" This put breaks 3.75" to the left, huh Rog? the other one that gets me is how he always says what the player is looking at: "He's looking about 4' left of the tower." There's really no way to tell, the way optics work in those cameras. He also had a couple where he told everyone that so and so was going to hit the high cut and there you go a slinging hook shows up.... I'm not a fan. I find him pompous, he truly believes that he's better than the current PGA players. I've also met him...he's kind of an ass...think Don Johnson in Tin Cup.
  8. To keep the rust away you should oil all of your clubfaces after you clean them and after every shot. I carry a can of wd40 as standard issue in my bag. this ensures rust free clubs at all times...scoring using this method may vary and i play a lot of bump and runs.
  9. I love it. It's only one degree stronger than my old 5 wood, but the shaft lets me launch it a bit higher and I'm getting more carry. Now I can follow my plan of replacing my 3w 5w combo with this 4 wood and adding a 3h or extreme lob wedge when I need. this 4 callaway 4w ft is great off the tee and fantastic off the turf.
  10. It's been a bummer. I have played Hogan irons and wedges my entire golfing life, and they are by far my favorites. First, I couldn't find a replacement for my old trusty special grind lob wedge....now I'm going to have to hunt to replace my Carnousties. I've tried other wedges but can't seem to break my grip from my Hogans. Gotta to try more clubs... maybe those callaway forged will be a nice change...but the wedge change has me for a loop.
  11. It's not the temperature of the solvent but of the grips themselves. When I did mine during the winter in my garage i could not get them on right, and I was doing the same thing I had always been doing. Tip: warm the grips...on the hood of a car in the sun or with a hair dryer...anything that will warm them up. Once they're warm the rubber has a bit more stretch and they go on smooth, it doesn't take much but it makes a huge difference.
  12. Yeah baby! Apex. I've had two sets of irons my whole life. Hogan Apex PC's...took them down to a 2 senior year in high school. Put the sticks away for 13 years and 3 years ago I started playing again with Hogan Apex ftx's. I love these clubs. Personally, I first pick what looks good to me and makes me feel like I'm going to hit the ball well. I've never ever liked the look (or feel) of an offset iron. Then I try them out and get fitted, seems to work. I'm no +4 but I'm no slouch either and seem to be improving every year. lately I'm starting to like the callaway forged...wonder what kind of handicap I need to play those?
  13. I carry that same wedge combo. I go with either: driver, 3 wood, 5 wood or more recently driver, 4 wood, 3 hybrid. I do love having that extra wedge and the different bounce options.
  14. Just ordered that 4 wood...should have it for this weekend. Seemed like the best one I tried, or at least it worked for me.
  15. I have the same issue. I've overcome it a few times, and those have been great not just good rounds. It's hard to keep that free swing and putting that got you there when you're pressing for a score. There's something to being in a zone. Finding it is hard. I'm working hard on not trying too hard and being tolerant of my mistakes. Focusing on making a "good" shot after a bad one not necessarily a miracle play.
  16. The Master's used to see quite a few high rounds in the opening round, but many of those players would fail to turn in their scorecards. Thus the rounds would not be official. Must be nice to keep getting invited.
  17. I own and operate a tunneling company.
  18. Hello and congratulations!
