  1. When I first started playing I was out on a Muni with my friend and his dad. There was a fourth, but I forget who it was. Anyway, I was horrible and flaunted it! I teed up, smacked a drive....right into the hole marker! The ball flew back between my friend and his dad to hit the railroad wood railing of the blue tee box. From there it once again changed direction and flew between me and the fourth! That ball had some smoke on it as it rolled half way down the fairway...in the middle! That was my first Fairway in Regs! lol
  2. I would personally enjoy a fitness section. There is a lot of good information out there on Golf Fitness and a forum would be helpful in sorting it out. So far I have found this forum to be full of great experienced based information. In golf flexibility, endurance, and strength fitness is very important.
  3. Depending on your bag, you might look at a mono pod that you attach to the camera and slide into a slot of your bag. Most have adjustable connection for angles, ect. So as your bag is supported on the legs it would compensate for that lean. It would just be a matter of securing it so it doesn't swing around on your walk.
  4. I am currently considering a Mizuno purchase myself. I have never played with forged irons before. I did hit some MP 52's in a local shop and loved them! For the longest time I have had XPC Plus Cavity Back irons from 2-S. I am considering MP 57's for 4i-6i and MP 52's for 7i-9i. Any thoughts? I am not getting wedges as I have my Cleveland 48, 56, and 60.
  5. I would ignore the name and research your needs. Once you narrow down the settings (offset, loft, shaft, ect) you need, find the clubs that fit into that catagory. Then watch Ebay to find the deals in your price range. While doing that, hit as many of the clubs you are looking at and find the ones that fit you best. One thing to do is always hit the longest iron you plan on using from the sets you are considering. If you are planning on using a 3 and 4 hybrid, hit the 5 iron. In your price range you can find Cobra, Nike, Cleveland, Callaway, Adams....they all have something for you.
  6. I am trying to deceide what ball to use myself. Has anyone used the launch monitor at a golf store to help them narrow down the options? A question for the numerous experience and people here; I fade with my driver, draw my irons, when I rush or try to over swing. I am working on my short game because I am reworking my game from the green to the tee. Any suggestions on which balls to look? What I want from a ball: I want it to check on firm greens. I do not want it to over-pronounce my fade/draw into bigger problems. I like my current ball flight which is mid-high depending on the club. What I do know about my swing: Ball speed: 135mph avg Driver distance: 255yrd avg The launch monitor at the golf store doesn't report on the swing speed. Thanks for any help
  7. I used to use my 3w for my drives and my 2i as the back up. I switched to the 2i for my tee shot while I worked on my tee shot. Now I have my driver and 2h as the back up. Still looking at upgrading my 14yr old 3w. Just trying to decide between 3w or 1h.

  9. That sounds like one of the old holes at Black Horse / Bayonet in Seaside, CA. The new design eliminated the bell, but not necessarily the need. So, to add to the topic.... I decided to play golf with a friend that I had not played with before. We went to the Muni that I starting playing golf at. At this time I had made par maybe a dozen times since starting the game. On this particular day, it didn't look like I was gonna make one. As we rolled up to the 8th tee box I stated, quite matter of factly, that this was my hole! It was a short par 3, 109 yrds with the green elevated and sloped. Well I hit the green and watched my ball roll all the way off and down some more. My friend laughed and mocked my earlier statement. His tee shot flew the green. So we each went to our ball for shot two. Now at this point, all I could see of him was his head, as he was on the other side of the green. He watched as I lined up my "chip shot" (which at the time was me praying I just hit it right instead of my normal tomahawk chop). I hit my ball and watched it bounce, roll and drop right into the hole! My friend's head went down as his club went up! It was my first birdie ever.....yeah, never saw that coming.

  11. The bold highlighted part is OUTSTANDING advice! It took me years+ to realize that was the way to go. I too was soo focused on getting to the green that I forgot to learn what to do once I got there! Take your time grooving your swing. I didn't take a full swing with my irons for the longest time. What I was trying to do was to be consistant. As my swing got steady, the back swing became longer. Eventually I was taking full swings and didn't realize it. You don't have to be long to be good. Work on steady ball contact and enjoy.
  12. I was never very good with using fairway woods from the fairway, sad as it is. That made me practice my irons until I could hit them solidly. In Janruary I purchased new irons. Not the smartest thing I've done. With my old set I had a 2i that I could hit well. I was pretty consistant with my long irons. To make up for the fact that the new set didn't offer a 2i I started looking at the Hybrids. I found a Cobra Baffler DWS 2/R on Ebay for a steal! I took it to the range and after 5 swings I was hooked. I get the distance I expect, ball flight to envy, and forgiveness I didn't expect. I immediately started looking at replacing the 3i that came with the new set. This weekend I took my "new" (to me that is) Cobra Baffler DWS 3/R out to the course. I got the chance to use it once (used the 2 more often). I was faced with 190yrd 2nd shot on a long Par 4 to an elevated green. The ball landed soft on the green within 3 feet! The only time I have trouble with the Hybrids is when I swing it like a wood, or the ground is very wet and soft. The latter just smooshes the ball into the ground before it takes off.
  13. Yeah, I am in the Navy and recently started golfing again. I am looking at transfering in May. Got to start looking for new golfing buddies in the Biloxi. MS area.
  14. Sorry if it seemed I was pushing another putter onto you. I was trying to give my opinion on the one you asked about. Since I didn't buy it, I felt providing a reason was necessary. It only came down to personal preference. The spider putters are very nice putters.
  15. I did hit it while I was looking for a new putter. My biggest issue with putting is alignment. I was impressed with how smooth and easy it was to align and sink putts. I didn't buy it in the end only because the Odyssey Teron putter beat it at longer distances for me personally. I had less missalignments with the Teron. Both had great speed and feel. I was hard pressed to not like it. It is a solid putter!
  16. Sounds like you are rushing things at times. One of the things I am doing to "grain my groove in" is slow, steady, partial swings. I try to be consistant with the swing amount before adding more rotation, ie: 1/2 to 3/4 swing. One of the things that helps me is a phrase used when I was in my firearms class "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast". Your body will start to remember with time, which is probably why you revert to the slice when you rush. Hope that helps.
  17. Because I have a big slce with my driverm, I used to tee off with my 2i and get 220. I tried a 3w to get a little bit more distance, which I got, however the ball flight was a high arch. The landing was soft with out much roll. Great if I am teeing off on a short Par 4, long Par 3. Since it is raining I have not been to the range much. Instead, what I do is swing a club inside. I don’t do a full swing or speed. What I am trying to do is “groove my path”. I am a bigger guy and one thing I have noticed is when I align my feet parrallel to the target I always get an outside-in swing path. No matter how slow I go to try to correct it. When my upper body comes around, it just pushes my arms out forcing me to pull them back in. What I have done is started expeirementing with my foot placement. I discovered that if my left foot (I am right handed) is 2 or so inches forward (closed to the target line), my swing plane stays consistant AND my body rotation is a lot better on follow through. I can not wait to go to the driving range to test it out. My question is if anyone else has the same problem? Have they tried the different alignment? What was the result? Any thoughts on the theory?

Well because it says it on my driver's license and not because I act it....I am 35.
  19. I have recently gotten back into playing after a 5yr hibernation! My goals are pretty simple: Get back into a groove and learn how to hit my driver Keep my score under 100 and break into the 80's Enjoy myself while I am out there!
  20. I agree with most people here, playing in the middle of a big change can cause a reverse in progress. I also feel that a round could help if all your are doing is focusing on those changes and not on your score. While you are out there, take your time, make your practice swings, and focus on the changes. This should keep your mind off the ball, which can help. Hey, go have fun!
  21. For some courses that are fun and not too expensive try Stonecreek in Paradise Valley The 500 Club in North Phoenix The Phoenician in Central Phoenix, East Side. They all have deals going right now and are a lot of fun and challenging.
