  1. saevel, and the difference is that I have to compare the parties and candidates. It isn't as simple as which lied about what. For me, in the end, it is a matter of who can beat the Democratic Machine. This next President stands the chance of appointing multiple members to the Supreme Court. Our national debt is horrendous and has to be addressed. Government is growing to a point we may have to admin that we no longer are a Republic. So, my need to mention for anyone reading here the comparisons.
  2. The Democratic Party leader is different? How about telling lies to the parents of the fallen after Benghazi? How about the 1000+ lies and counting from this administration. (Goggle it and you'll be able to read all night.) To be blunt, every candidate for both parties is misleading the nation trying to get the nomination of their party. Isn't it ironic that many of you continue to say that the Republican Candidates are appealing to the "uneducated blue collar worker.." Do you feel the same about the Democratic Candidate and the uneducated masses voting for that party? I wonder which is a higher percentage of the population?
  3. You can disagree all you want. Rkim asked for any Conservative on this site to give their definition and so, I did. I speak of conservatism due to the influences in my life and what the government had done to me and mine. One of my Uncles did 7 years in prison for $7,000 in back taxes. How was that justified in lieu of what is happening now with people like Sharpton owing so much more? When my Uncle got out, America gained a very dangerous man. In fact, infamous and mentioned in books. My Grandfather tried to leave the institution of sharecropping by homesteading some TVA land in a flood plain. My Dad and Grandfather built a house which none of you would walk into. They built barns, they worked like dogs. We built a bridge to that house/homestead. We finally purchased an old tractor that was crank started. Before that, my Dad and Grandfather used mules. When they had finally turned the corner, eminent domain was declared and the government took their land. Another Uncle stood at that bridge armed and dangerous. It didn't work out too well for my family. That Uncle died in prison. I could give you time after time examples of what government has done to my family. So, when I say limited government, I speak from the heart and despise government intrusion into our lives. I believe in the power of the individual. I have lived in places most of you can't image. I have been stabbed. I have been beaten almost to death twice by gangs. When I speak of the power of the individual, I lived it. I worked 10 years in a factory on midnight shift getting my degree and going to college during the day. I have worked every low paying job you can think of. I now teach and have a Master's Degree. I know what I know but I know what I know. Most people know what they know but they don't really know what they know. I know what I know but I know what i know. You know!
  4. Pro life Limited Government States Rights and responsibilities to take care of many issues on the state and local level. This would include things like control of the educational system. National sovereignty and a border that matters. A strong defense/military Reduced spending by government on entitlements. Conservatives I know believe in self responsibility and control over one's life. More opportunity for small business. Conservatives understand that both parties are parties of the rich but that the myth continues that only Republicans benefit from the rich. Belief in the Second Amendment - I intend to Conceal and Carry. Reduction in the National Debt so our children don't have to carry that burden. Well, that is a few of the things I believe in as a Conservative. I try not to push my religious beliefs on anyone else but will defend my beliefs. I do believe that Christianity is under attack in America. One more thing, I know many Black Republicans. Many are attacked for their beliefs and so, are a silent minority in their communities. However, on the issues when I speak about these topic with friends, they think alike.
  5. I still can't believe where I was recently. I am not at liberty to say where I was or post any photos but I was in car heaven. Due to special circumstances, I was able to be in a "garage" that had 30 extremely rare and sought after cars. To name a few, a Lamborghini Dino 246GT, a 1928 Royals Royce torpedo back Thunderbolt, a 1955 Mercedes 300SL, ... The owner is such a nice person. I am fortunate to get to do this once in my lifetime and am thankful for a great night.
  6. So, only the right has extreme elements?
  7. I teach in a great school district and have been recognized, myself, for my efforts in the classroom. However, the facts are that the education of a child has to be a joint effort. I am constantly emailing or calling parents. I have found that parents, for the most part, want to be involved. Sure, some get angry and tell me that it is my job to teach their child. Our parent teacher conferences last week were fantastic. I see a student for 55 minutes a day in my classroom. Therefore, I have to count on a partnership with parents to help each of my students be successful.
  8. It is really interesting then what these people acquire: http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2011/07/what-is-poverty Again, I grew up in a housing projects. I have seen first hand the system. Let's take that family that has the children that they receive government money to feed, two of those meals are fed through the school system for the vast majority of the school year. The clothing including coats etc. are provided through various agencies like what Kurt Warner and his wife do. All of the medical care is on the government. mdl, it would be interesting to hear just how many of those families are non smokers because your position is that they are too poor to afford cigarettes. How many of them don't have a drug or alcohol problem because they can't pay for the drugs or alcohol. How many don't have Cable TV, 2 TV sets, Air Conditioning, Smart phones, ... I visit my former community a couple of times a month and see people living there on the government that have all of this and new cars.
  9. The Factor - Bill O'Reilly - I never miss it. Alaska The Last Frontier - Interested in family plot but scenery is big draw. Person of Interest - Last year for this one WHEN the season finally begins. I love the concept and wish the show would get renewed.
  10. Hey all, thanks for the contributions. We started Softball Open Gym today at 6:50 this morning. We had 18 girls there. I am so excited. For those that don't know, in the State of Illinois, we can have open gym but coaches can't do anything. So, we unlocked the storage area and let the girls set everything up. I sat on a bucket in a corner and bit my tongue as I saw flaws that will have to be fixed in some player's swings. Still, it allows them to be in the cages hitting. When our school holds an Open Gym, we announce it so that athletes of other sports can come in as well. Naturally, we are responsible for supervising. So, we had some basketball boys come in and one basketball girl come in to shoot. Typically, some track athletes come in and run but they went outside this morning. We will do this one day a week. I know that doesn't sound like much but it gives these athletes opportunity to work on their sports even if it is one day per week. Edited to add: BTW, we don't take roll. We don't instruct. We don't pick who comes. It is a real open gym open to all athletes. I'm not sure that happens everywhere.
  11. I'm going to throw this out. I have a buddy who just changed clubs. He really struggled on what to buy. He told me that he decided to call a course in St. Louis and ask them if they had clubs to rent or tryout for a round. Since his company is roughly 30 minutes from that club, he wanted to get in a quick round after work. He was allowed to tryout a set after some common friend's names were exchanged. He ended up going through their pro shop to get fitted and buy the clubs but he knew for sure what clubs he wanted to purchase after playing them.
  12. Just wondering who among you follow HS sports? Our HS Football team is advancing in the playoffs as it typically does. However, the next step will be very tough and we typically bow out this round. Still, we have some exceptional young men playing and they represent our school with pride. Our Cross Country, Girl's Tennis, and Girl's Golf seem to excel. We now head into basketball season. Not a good thing for us. Our school does poorly in those sports despite outstanding coaches. We are in a very tough conference and have to play our outside conference schedule against schools twice our size. While I think that an excuse in sports like softball and baseball, we just don't have the height to contend. Our 6'2" center will not fare well against the 6'8" to 7' centers for the other teams. Believe me I know because I once coached those 6'8" to 7' players. Our wrestling team will again be one of the top teams in state. I live in small town USA and so, the masses will show up regardless of record. It is pretty neat living in this type atmosphere. Come spring, our school will do exceptionally well in just about every spring sport. So, what say you about your communities and HS teams?
  13. I have been undergoing extensive training for common core. I was sent to training to then train our Social Studies Department. In doing so, the first thing I asked our training staff was where I would find the time to implement all of the writing requirements? I was told that I would no longer teach what was once taught. I would take one or two aspects of a unit, expand on those aspects, have students do discovery exercises on those things and then write, write and write some more on those selected things. Obviously, the next question was where students would learn all the information that they are no longer exposed to. My answer was that it didn't matter. What students were to learn was how to delve into material which would,in turn, enable them to learn more about any topic should they wish to explore it on their time. Students would become proficient in writing and thinking. BTW, one aspect of the writing would be to have students create a paper on what would have happened if ... So, suppose students were learning about JFK, they would write about what would have happened if he had not be assassinated. I bet you can see where this is going. I asked how students would be able to delve into this IF they were not exposed to what did happen after his assassination. Again, much of that would not be taught. My answer was very specific. Students who want to know will research it. For the others, it doesn't matter since they are writing and being creative. I finished that two week training course a very frustrated person.
  14. That depends upon who you are playing with in my opinion. I often golf with a lot of retired players and early in the morning. In fact, they want to be done before the day heats up. I never ask nor take a "gimmie." If they ask, I try to let another say, "pick it up." To be honest, their practice does not bother me at all. We have a great time. However, when I golf in local tournaments or scrambles, no "gimmie" is good until it is in the bottom of the hole. So, I putt them in. If I were a learning golfer, as has previous been mentioned, I'd putt everything out myself.
  15. This might sound crazy but you have to practice with a purpose with regards to putting. Crazy in that you might think that you do practice with a purpose. I've found that various drills using tees in various ways gives you a way to create measurements, alignment, ... Then, when you have these restrictions or guidelines, you can then work on tempo. I'm sure you can find these various drills on YouTube.
  16. I apologize and will stay out of this forum. Take care, Darrell
  17. Driver: 265 consistent. Can jump on it once in a while and get 280. I hit a draw and so... 3 Wood: 240 - This is my best club. I count on it to bring me back when I've had a bad hole. (Par 5 is made smaller.) 3 Iron: 210 4: 200 5: 190 6: 175 7: 155-160 This is my second best club and is money. 8: 140 9: 120 PW: 110 PW is really 100 to 110 and is my 3rd best club. 53*: 90 56*: 80 Lob: 65 I don't often try to jump on a club so these are my regular smooth tempo swing. I can jump on them but why? I used to win a long drive hole in scrambles once or twice a year but I'm older now and have trouble with my hips. Ironically, the last club I won on a long drive hole is the driver I now use. LOL
  18. Find a golfing buddy and golf on twilight rates if your course has them. You might only get 9 in but it can be a blast. That's how I first started so many years ago. One of my good buddies started the same with me. He'd get home from work and we'd take off.
  19. I apologize to Senator Cruz for the misspelling of his name. I spelled his last name like my player with the same name. I should know better.
  20. Interesting each question asked is really an attack on the candidate. Cruze just hammered the moderators for their questions and he was right. He then gave the example of a question that was asked of the Democrats which was, "which one of you are more handsome." He pointed out that not one moderator will vote Republican and so, they are attempting to get candidates to attack each other instead of asking substantive questions. Cruze won't see another question.
  21. Kenny, thanks for that post! Take care, Darrell
  22. I will be interested in the questions and the climate of the debate.
  23. Deleted. I look for Trump to go on the offensive. I also think that this could be bad timing for him if he calls out Carson.
  24. Yes, it is a percent and not a 5. I guess I typed it so fast that I lifted off of the shift. Looking forward to the Republican Debate tonight. Who seizes the opportunity to make a move and who drops out afterwards.
