  1. Erik, I love how frequently you have to reference the 'Reference' in your signature(especially for deep hands). I've found a lot of the information in their extremely helpful. You should just make that blog post a sticky or something.
  2. I have the same exact problem. It's really frustrating. Hopefully someone will have an answer...
  3. Hey guys, I'm thinking about selling a club or two, which is new territory for me. I was wondering, where can you buy the boxes to ship a club in and which shipping company seems to provide the best service (UPS/FedEx/USPS)? Originally, I had intended on using other boxes that clubs I had purchased came in to use when shipping. Unfortunately, my roommate was cleaning and decided that I didn't need them anymore and got rid of them...
  4. What's wrong with eBay?
  5. I was honestly about to start a similar thread. I had the same basic experience today. I scored well, but only because I had one of my best short game days ever. I just could not get my long game working though! It just feels like I can't put it all together on the same day. I guess it just stresses how important the short game and course management are when it comes to scoring. It just stinks knowing that if I could have played a little better long I presumably could have gone much lower.
  6. I'm going with it definitely being the year of the Blackhawks!
  7. I would definitely follow the blog. I'm from Chicago and would love to hear your experiences. I have had really good luck playing those forest preserve courses. Great Value!
  8. i.e. blaming the clubs?
  9. The article actually says the Eye-2s are good to go. Such a lame article in general. I understand that some of the advances make the game easier, but you should play with whatever works for you.
  10. I feel your pain. I'm graduating from college this May and play video games and golf. You should do whatever brings you the most enjoyment. It's going to be different for everybody. That being said, there may be better deals to be had for newer clubs. There's nothing wrong with building your bag slowly one piece at a time. I think you may get a lot of skewed responses also based on the fact you're considering selling video games. It's a generational thing. Remember, it's going to be cheaper and easier to play xbox with friends over golf with friends in college. It won't be golf season most of the time while you're at school. It's more likely that new kids you meet at school will play video games rather than golf.
  11. I've had sort of the opposite experience. I've been able to hit better straight shots since I've started thinking about trying to work the ball. Understanding how to work the ball includes how to hit it straight. I just think of it as a very limited number of combinations face angles and swing paths, one of which gives me a perfectly straight ball. It makes it easier to identify what I did wrong. That being said, I don't try to pull off too many shots like that on the course but I think it's good practice.
  12. I've been doing a little research on maybe going to a mixed set. I love my short irons but have been somewhat inconsistent with the long irons. I've been having trouble making a decision on what to go with. I don't have a store close enough to try out many so I was hoping to draw on your experience. How do the Mizuno MP Fli Hi long iron replacements compare to long irons from game improvement sets? I was thinking about either getting the fli-hi's or long irons from an MX set.
  13. My currenty loft is 9* and I'm using the stock Nike stiff shaft that came with my driver. I don't have a specfic price range but I'd prefer not to break the bank. I've played around with ball position a little bit but I still have this problem.
  14. I tend to hit my driver very high and have been working hard to bring the ball flight down. I feel like I'm losing a considerable ammount of distance because of my ball flight. Do you guys have any shaft recommendations that might help bringing my ball flight down?
  15. Hey Guys, I am getting more into the game this summer. At this point, I am completely self taught. I'd like to take lessons to get me moving in the right direction, something beyond my simple trial and error at the range. I'm located in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. Unfortunately, I don't know any of the teachers in the area and was hoping you guys might have some suggestions. So, any suggestions or experience with teachers in my area? Thanks a lot.
  16. The difference in scores between different waves is killing me. I understand that weather is part of the sport but it's been night and day and the impact on scoring just feels unfair.
  17. They're both cavity back. The 52 actually has an even more pronounced cavity than the 57. Another difference is 'Cut Muscle' vs 'Dual Muscle' which changes the weight distribution on the club head. The Mizuno USA website isn't terribly helpful but the Mizuno Europe site is much better ( http://golf.mizunoeurope.com/irons/ )
  18. So, Adams and Nickent sound like the way to go. Any specific models that are good to look into, or just stick with basically anything from these brands?
  19. Hey Guys, my girlfriend is starting to take an interest in golf. She is playing with an older set of clubs that were her dad's but wants to get her own. I really don't have much of an idea where to start. She's pretty tall (5'10"ish) and reasonably athletic. However, she has complained that her old clubs feel a bit heavy. I'll try and get the specifics of what she's currently using if it helps. I don't want to spend too much and willing to buy used. So, any suggestions or personal experiences from similar situations?
  20. The ladies love guys with big grips.
  21. I was under the impression that getting grips that fit your hand is what makes a difference. So the discussion isn't really about grippier grips but grips that fit your hand. My uncle was talking to me on Easter about how he went and got fit for new grips and it's had a big impact on his game. Obviously reducing slipping is another thing that improves when you replace grips subsequently but initially the big change is actually just fitting your clubs to you. That being said I don't have any personal experience with getting grips fitted.
  22. Harsh. Not knowing anything terribly specific about your game or the course you are playing, it's possible if you play a really fantastic round. Have you ever shot in the 60s at this course? It's good to go into the round with a positive mind set looking to put up a low number. Just remember, don't put any extra pressure on yourself to make each and every shot, just play the game.
  23. Has anybody on the forums had any experience with this site?
  24. I'm not entirely sure what I would have done in that situation...Meh, I probably would have done EXACTLY what you did, let them borrow the club as not to look like a dick and then freak out about it. I definitely understand because it was your second round ever with the club not just borrowing a random club.
