Annoying Things Golfers Say and Do on the Course
Lebowski replied to Lag Rag's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
my first thought as well! -
Thanks guys, well i go back to the doctor in a week after my first visit in 6yrs, on my first visit he suspected that scoliosis has been putting a large amount of stress on discs in my back and more then likely some have herniated. My reflexes on my left arm/hand were non existent and with that added to the location of the pain i was feeling, the doctor feels that i have some compressed nerves that are also giving me problems. I can't wait for my next Dr. appointment so hopefully i can get an idea on how to put this behind me.

Thanks to everyone for posting in this thread and I tried every suggestion except for going to a yoga class (the closest class was still pretty far away)....... and the one suggestion that did the trick? I have scoliosis

now what if..... you sink a putt from 15 feet and before you can pick your ball out of the hole, an earthquake shakes the ball out of the cup and back onto the green?
-
it looks like you are taking it back way to the inside which can induce an over the top move back to the ball. I'd suggest hitting some balls with some clubs layed on the ground, parallel to your target.

I think the tears that were shed by your son shows just how much the game means to him and how much he enjoys playing well. I would let your son determine if he plays in any more tournaments (sounds like he wants to) that way the game will never feel like a chore to him. In your next tourny, I would reinforce the idea in him that the only thing that matters is that he has fun while golfing.

thank you for all the replies thus far, i will absolutely be looking into some simple yoga movements to add to my daily stretching routine. I do walk every round of golf I play and I usually play 2-3 rounds of 18 holes per week, but i do this while carrying my bag which is most likely contributing to my back problems. I think I will be purchasing a push cart soon to try and take some more stress off the back. I played a round yesterday and was wondering during my round, what are the best couple of stretches to perform mid round to combat a sore back? All i could come up with really was 2 or 3 simple hamstring stretches that everyone already knows from their p.e. classes at school. Does anyone have any stretches or dynamic movements that really help them control their back pain when it flares up?

I've been suffering from a sore lower/mid back for a while now and it is starting to affect my golf game for the worse. I've started to hook the ball more and more since i've been dealing with this back pain and I think this is because my posture has changed when setting up to the ball. I've notice that I have been setting up farther away from the ball and getting a more hunched over back. When I corrected my posture and got closer to the ball, it instantly felt familiar and I hit the ball 10x better. The problem is when swinging with a more upright spine angle, the pain in my back is much more intense. (i know, i thought it'd hurt more while more hunched over) The pain intensifies on the downswing and is triggered by my bodyweight moving to the left and the hips clearing. I've always heard that stretching your hamstrings will help a sore back, so i've been doing that religiously for a few weeks now. I'm looking for any stretches or warmup movements that will help me ease this awful pain. Thank you in advance for any advice/knowledge given!

If you could change ONE rule, what would it be?
Lebowski replied to Q.Q.Quillume's topic in Rules of Golf
i wish i could repair the spike marks left by the moros who drag their feet -
well we all know for sure that Bubba would let the tour veterans kiss his ass

I would rather spend time with good friends rather then strangers at all times..... no matter what their golfing ability may be. Is this issue really important enough to risk ruining a good friendship?

I'm not sure if the tournament your son was playing in was competitive or not, but if your son managed to beat out other kids for a spot in a future tournament or any other such reward, I hope you will encourage him to withdraw himself due to not posting a proper score. The drop he took is illegal and his score on that hole cannot be counted in any legit way. I understand that this type of thing is way over the top for a recreational/beginners tournament, but it would absolutely be considered cheating in many junior tournaments around here (many men's league tournys as well). I understand it may be hard to tell him, seeing as you told him to drop a ball.

maybe you can tell from my display name, but this thread is very dear to my heart and i have thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

i know what you mean and for me it tends to be from having too much weight towards the front of my feet, if someone gave me a light shove from behind i would have fallen forward. The fix for me was just having my weight more towards the middle of my feet, but still an athletic position. The new weight distribution also resulted in a less hunched over position and a more upright spine angle.

usually making a 5 on a 175yrd hole equals a bad double bogey

There have been numerous tournaments that i watched on mute and just had some tunes playing instead, it makes for a very relaxing broadcast and is far less annoying on most occasions.

Johnson was just eliminated from the WGC.... my theory is natalie hit dustin in the head with one of her fake cans and he is suffering from post concussion syndrome.

If you feel the need to carry a stack of "you're a douche" cards with you everywhere you go, there is a good chance there is a problem you with you and not "the douches". The fact that you need a stack of them shows how much conflict you expect to have with other people and are not the type of person that should be on a golf course.

good luck my man, keep us informed as much as you can... maybe similar to the "mini tour play" thread?

New R11 Commercial - Fun or Annoying???
Lebowski replied to TheGeekGolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
That commercial is making me want to go out and buy myself my first callaway driver. I really like the look of it from the R11 commercial and the aiming aid logo of the callaway has to be the best of all the drivers shown ......... and the callaway isnt a hideous white colour -

I was pretty pumped to shoot my best ever round earlier this week by finally breaking par for the first time and shooting a 69(-1). Although the course was by no means difficult, it was not a complete joke at 6300yrds par 70. I was so enthused from shooting my personal best round that I decided to play the very next day on a different course and was able to shoot a 68(-2). That round was played on a 6200yrd par70 track. I can say without a doubt that I can credit these rounds to extra practice that I put into my short game. I didn't put in a ton of hours, but just a few mins practicing my putting before rounds and even chipping on the lawn at home. I kept some statistics on my 2nd round of 68 and it tells the story of how my round went. My ball-striking was average at best, but my putting/chipping were much better then they have ever been. My round consisted of 1 double bogey, 2 bogeys, 9 pars and 6 birdies. G.I.R - 11 of 18 61% Fairways - 8 of 12 67% Total Putts - 27 3 Putts - 0 Penalty Strokes - 1 I would recommend to anyone trying to breakthrough a plateau to work on their short game to shave off those last few strokes. I know it was the key for me and I will now practice my short game more then my long game (which needs improvement )
