  1. It's all about setting priorities. You have to find hours in the day for things that are important to you (family & golf), and cut back on things that aren't important.
  2. Honestly I choose any site that lets me book a single. A few dollars in price doesn't matter to me, as long as I can secure a good weekend morning tee time as a single.
  3. I'm in the midst of some swing changes as I've been trying to correct my pull/pull slice. I put a lot of work in today and can comfortably hit a high-draw with my irons. If I had to choose though, my trajectory would be a bit lower, though there are definitely advantages to hitting it high. What would you pick?
  4. Hey thanks for the comment. You are right - I didn't even realize I was taking the club back on the outside-in plane. Guess that's why I was so vexed; the swing stays on plane the whole time. It's just not the proper plane :-)
  5. I've been Playing Golf for: 17 years My current handicap index or average score is: 15.8 My typical ball flight is: High fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: PULL!!! I've been doing some work on my swing lately and am pretty pleased how it looks. Unfortunately, I'm pulling everything. I hit straight pulls, pull-fades (that work out nicely), or pull-slices, depending on how my clubhead is at impact. Does anyone have any suggestions for helping with this? 6. I think everyone usually can play, there are obviously minimum skill credentials to be invited to the show. But it's way too early to tell who is actually really good.
  7. Meghan's large boobies were probably a hindrance to her swing. I am sad they are leaving the show.
  8. I would also consider getting a 2 hybrid. I can usually hit my 2h 210-220 and fairly accurately. My 3w goes up to 240, but is more erratic. I often take the 2h and come up a bit short because I know I can hit it straight.
  9. Having only the weekends to play. Any bad weather and I might not get to play at all.
  10. Was playing with a few nice guys (not very good golfers) last weekend. Someone from another hole hit over to our fairway and started cursing and screaming and getting himself all worked up. A guy in my group said "Why's he so mad? Doesn't he know golf is hard?" That made me smile.
  11. I played the knockdown as my stock iron swing today and more hit greens than I ever have and shot the best I ever have. I hit some poor tee shots, but I literally didn't miss anything inside 150 yards. I wasn't scared of any distance being between clubs and I used all my wedges from various lengths depending on the situation. By the end of the round I didn't even think of it as playing a knockdown, although technically I probably wasn't. My "new" swing is just more controlled and comes off with a lower trajectory.
  12. On the 12th hole at Augusta on Sunday (the 155 yard par 3), Bubba Watson took out an 8 iron, which is way too much club for him, but played a knockdown shot where he swung about 75%, kept it low, and stopped it stiff. I gave this type of shot a try at the range today, using every club from wedge to 3 wood. Amazingly, I was able to hit dead straight shots with a low trajectory. Usually, my full shots balloon upwards and have a left to right lean on them. It's hard to calculate distances with range balls, but the knockdown shots seemed to go about 90% as far as a full shot. I've never been a very accurate player (hence my highish handicap), but I was hitting ropes right down the target line. I'm definitely going to work more of these shots into my game, particularly on tight holes, when it's windy, or when I'm between distances (taking the longer club, of course). Is it possible that these knockdowns I was hitting are actually stock shots for better golfers? I can imagine there are flaws in my full swing that are throwing off my impact and causing a "high fade" when I should really be hitting a penetrating straight ball. Taking a shorter backswing and slamming down through impact may just be what I need to do to correct these flaws. I'm thinking maybe I should scrap my full swing altogether and work on distance control via the knockdown shot. Thoughts?
  13. Has anyone used the Chelsea Piers simulator? Are the rentals clubs good enough that I wouldn't have to bring my own?
  14. I just played a round on a simulator a few days ago. I started the first 3 holes -2, which is absurd for me. Because of the perfect lies (rough and slope don't really affect your shot) and perfect green reading ability (just look at the moving lines), it's not fair to equate it to a real score. However, it's a lot of fun and definitely a step up from a driving range in terms of practice.
  15. Pros vs. Munis is a great, great idea. I don't think you'll get a lot of buy in from any decent pros, though, because it'll ruin their putting and might cause some embarrassment. However, if you offered enough money you might get some fringe players or Champions tour players. You'd probably need players of Tiger/Phil notoriety to get decent ratings.
  16. I go 100 with my 54 degree and 75 with my 58 degree. Often times though I'm using the 54 degree from 75 yards with a 3/4 swing. I would experiment with different ball positions. Moving the ball backward in your stance will take some loft off the shot and make it go further. It's not so much about hitting one club this distance and another club that distance, but rather what are my options from whatever distance you happen to be.
  17. This weekend I won my 2nd long drive trophy of the summer. The first one went uphill, into a slight wind 265 yards. I was the first one out and later learned that a few people beat it but didn't find the fairway. In the 2nd contest, my drive went about 290, downhill, downwind. I thought it was right all the way, but it got a side/down slope and kicked out further down the fairway. I knew I had the contest locked up when I got down there and had beaten the previous mark by 20 yards. These tournaments were both fund-raisers, so the competition is a bunch of older people, but I didn't think those distances would win. Am I playing with scrubs or are these distances respectable?
  18. My friends I play with always cheat. They give themselves a handful of mulligans per round, count short putts that they miss, and rarely take the proper penalties for OB and hazards. Honestly I just feel bad for them. I shoot mid-80s playing by the letter of the law, and many times they can't break 100 even with cheating. It's just sad to go home saying you shot a 110 or 120. And these are my friends that have been playing for 10+ years.
  19. Just played in my second scramble in as many weeks and in each it was 3 vs. 4. In the first scramble, we put the worst 2 guys on the team of 4 and we played it even. In the second, the team of 3 was allowed to hit 4 shots each time, with the person hitting two times alternating from shot to shot. What do you think is equitable for uneven scrambles? What about if there was a team of two? Each person can hit twice per shot?
  20. So far, everyone's comment seems to be being distracted during the backswing (not during the downswing). Why not just stop your shot? Over the past few months I've been getting very good at backing away before the swing or during the swing if I'm distracted. Definitely something to work on. And so far I haven't hit a bad one after backing off just before.
  21. This is at least the 3rd time I've seen one of these "I broke 80" posts this year. Next time I see one, it's going to be mine. I'm right there; just need a few shots here and there and I'm in the club.
  22. As for the level of golf, these chicks are all better than me and all have nice, smooth swings. You won't get tour quality players, that is the point of the show. I watched the past 2 BBs and will be watching this one.
  23. I 100% stopped cheating at the start of last season. Before then, I would possibly give myself short putts even if I missed, or would take a mulligan or replace a lost ball without penalty. Then I realized that nobody cares about my scores but me. If I hit two balls OB, who cares that my score was 88 and not 84? Writing 84 and feeling like my score card is irrelevant doesn't make any sense. I write the 88 and understand that if I kept the ball in play I could have had a 84. I've had to check the internet with my cell phone numerous times this year to make sure I'm playing within the rules. I had a double-hit chip a few weeks ago that cost me +2. I was also pleasantly surprised after thinking I hit a tee shot OB, but ended up finding it in the woods just a few feet off the rough. Since there were no OB stakes, I was able to take an unplayable and drop close by in the rough for +1, then finish up for bogey.
  24. First off, that -4 for the first 6 holes is impressive. You must have some pretty good game to shoot that well, even if only for 1/3 of a round. I was playing with 3 guys who were friends (not my friends, but all good friends with each other), and made the mistake of pointing out that one of them was shooting under par after the first 5 holes. The other two guys got on me and were upset that I mentioned it. Anyway, my pointing it out to him didn't mess him up one bit, and he ended up shooting under par for the round (I assume he wasn't a scratch golfer, so this is cause for celebration). I suspect the reason you fell apart wasn't that someone else mentioned your score, but instead because you didn't believe you were good enough to keep it up. If you did, your reaction would have been something like "I'm just mad I only scored par on 2 of the holes." The first step to achieving anything on the golf course is believing that you can do it.
  25. Teaching professionals also will tell you that if you are pitching and chipping well, you'll hit better long iron shots because it's the same feel and motion, just a shorter swing.
