  1. I spent 6 years as a Navy Nuke on Fast Attack Submarines. Glad I did it. Glad I'm out. Most of the best people I have ever met were while I was in. Tips & things to remember: -It's all a game, play it their way. -It's not your job to come up with a better way. -Do what you are told, when you are told. -In Boot Camp, the days will drag, but the weeks will fly by.
  2. League night: 42 3 pars, 6 bogies I kicked my opponent's butt. My driver wasn't working very well, but I obviously made up for it.
  3. I shot 41 for a net 32 during my league last night. 5 pars, 3 bogies, and 1 double. I was in the zone, and I absolutely trounced my opponent. Lately, I've been good off of the tee, and very comfortable attacking the pin even with long irons/ hybrids. The difference last night was that instead of going to the driving range, I went to the practice green. My best shot of the night was on a par five: 1. Purposely hooked my driver around the dogleg left. 2. Tried to layup my 4 hybrid short of the creek in front of the green. I hit it too good, and I wound up in the creek. 3&4. Dropped my penalty, but the only shot that I had was an extremely low punch under a tree onto the short side of the green. It was on target, but a little hot so it rolled off the left rear into the sticky rough. 5. (Best Shot) Oh no! What to do? Getting back to the cup is a very treacherous downhill tiered slope. I hit a mini flop shot that just caught the top of the slope and just trickled down right next to the cup. 6. Putted out to save bogie. It's funny that one is more satisfied recovering from peril than when playing a hole properly and getting par.
  4. One league night I flushed my driver 250 yds. My opponent hit his 3 wood off the tee, and he was 20 yards past me for 270 yards! I've never seen a 3 wood hit that far before. Once, I drove over the green on an uphill 310 yard par 4. No cart paths. I still cannot explain that one.
  5. Sand Bagging is an overused term, almost exclusively spoken by the loser.
  6. I have a Yoda head cover. I wanted it because I need training in using the "Golf-Force". I recently saw a Darth Vader head cover and have been thinking that the dark side might be a quicker, easier path to lower scores.
  7. I got paired up with a guy one Sunday morning who picked up every put inside 4ft. That in itself didn't bother me until he started giving me advice and razzing me. During a casual round with this stranger on Sunday, he actually told me "Don't choke." on a birdie putt. That really pissed me off.
  8. Watch how his lower body starts the swing. This lets the arms and hands come from the inside. No weight shift equals bad slice. It's really that simple.
  9. I bought cheap white hand towels from Wal*Mart at $4 a piece. They are pretty thick and plush, so they do a great job at cleaning clubs and balls. I got the ones that don't have that textured strip on the because I didn't want it to look like I grabbed something from the bathroom. It's great to carry 4 towels in my bag on the course for less than the price of one logo'd towel. I usually have two out of the bag; one for clubs and the other for sweaty forehead and hands. The other two are in a pocket in case the other two get too nasty to use anymore.
  10. You guys are jerks! I just returned my recently purchased black glove for a white one! I never succumb to peer pressure like that! I guess golf is the only place in life that I care about being cool.
  11. So, since I have black shoes and other stuff, the black glove is okay right?
  12. Would somebody please enlighten me about using a black glove? I'll also add one of my own: Carrying your clubs like Robin Hood. (Arrow quiver)
  13. 1. Swing smooth not slow - just as many bad things happen while swinging slow as swinging fast 2. Bend at the waist - I was told to bend most at the knees, the club gets stuck on the down swing and you get a slice 3. Turn back, drive through - I learned that watching Ben Hogan videos 4. Don't hit a 3 wood out of the rough - DUH! 5. Nice clubs really do help 6. Golf is like crack I've gotten rid of a lot of bad habits this year. I'm squeaking back down towards the 80's. I shot three birds one day, and usually get at least one per round. Playing smart has been the biggest help so far.
  14. I usually play from the whites. The other day, I decided to play from the blues. The fairways look totally different from that perspective. What was interesting, is that I scored no different from the blues. I guess the driver is not my problem area. Also, it was really fun changing it up.
  15. One thing I like about non-insert blade putters is that they allow me to have better speed control. I still have my mallet because it might work for me again if my current putter craps out on me.
  16. I noticed that too. I thought it was interesting. It kind of makes you realize how ridiculous it is to match stuff.
  17. Well, It was my Nike One Tour - A $3 ball, a ProV1, an HX Tour, and my dad's ball since he drove into the same spot on the creek. I was originally standing on a safe spot. As I was climbing up the bank, I slipped and slid right into the bog. Now I know how those people felt in quicksand in those '80's movies. It was a par 3. I took the drop, pitched on within 6ft from 50 yards, and then putted in to save bogey. Not bad considering. My dad was laughing his ass off saying he couldn't look at me. He wound up with a 6 on that hole. I was trying to beat him on the last hole, so I kept telling him that it wasn't funny, which of course made him laugh harder. We both parred(5) it.
  18. Attachment 1930 Yes, up to my knees in mud. It was like freakin' quicksand, every time I moved to get out, I went in deeper. Needless to say, my dad didn't play very well for the rest of the round. He said that from across the fairway, it looked like I was wearing boots. I thought I was going to lose a shoe by trying to step out of that crap.
  19. As per my sig: 37* I find it the perfect compliment to my 56* wedge.
  20. I've been using my Niblick since father's day. What separates this from a regular chipper is the ability to use it with a full swing. It eats rough for breakfast too, an area where chipping with an 8 iron is difficult. This club has saved me many strokes with the ability to keep it lower than my short irons. I don't consider this to be a specialty club because I find it to be the most versatile club in my bag. My vagina must be huge.
  21. I demoed that exact driver when my previous driver broke. I would only describe it as adequate and it's probably only a little better than your Accuity. I ended up going with a used Callaway driver which is worlds better. However, I am relatively skilled with a driver. If you are still struggling with it with the driver, you probably can't beat that price. Golf Galaxy has a used section which would probably serve you better in the long run.
  22. Just one: Buy a Fender Whatever... Actually, Line 6 Guitarport is probably the BEST beginner's guitar tool. A whole mess of different amp and effect sounds. If you pay a membership fee, you can get real tabs that you can play along with real backing music. This is a really fun way to get started. If you don't want to go that route, just learn as many songs as possible. I would stay away from internet tabs, because unless you are experienced, it is hard to tell which ones are crappy, because most are. There are many professional "Hits" tab books in your preferred musical styles.
  23. my Dad has arthritis and uses Bionic Gloves. He wont use any other glove now.
  24. I usually play it as if it were tee'd up and put it a bit forward in my stance.
  25. 240 yards could also be two pitching wedges. doesn't sound so hard that way.
