Driver Loft and Swing Speed Question
OnePutt replied to Crey23's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Driver lofts are notoriously inaccurate, get them laser checked. I have heard (possibly on this website) that pings run a degree or two higher than marked, so that might be it. Keep in mind that shafts can also have a small impact on launch angle. -
Do you have any maxfli noodle, precept mc lady, or tm burner balls? I just got a recycled bag that came with mostly these and would be happy to cut them open. We can post pics and compare. Anyone with new noodles/lady/burners?

Congratulations on the hole out, you don't roll it in by accident. Always feels good when practice pays off. My goals were pretty simple this year (my first) - learn to play golf, then learn to play golf decently, and now it's lose less balls. The rest is coming together!

Played really well today actually. Shot an all time best 89 at a really hard course I've never played. Since I've played 6 rounds, I have a new low handicap. Anyway, a couple of GIRs but mostly played to bogey on each hole, which worked out okay because I didn't try to get pars/birdies and end up 2 or 3 over. Also, an eagle on the back helped out a lot. Really exciting and I'm ready for another round!

The losing pressure thing is great. I have an idea, this will work for you especially since you play free. Every shot that you mis hit - top, blade, shank, whatever - rehit it. Drop a ball and hit it correctly (guaranteed you'll get it the second time). Remember to pick up your ball and don't count the stroke. Only redo mishits, not balls that you over estimate distance, etc. If you do this correctly, you're essentially preparing yourself to play with better ballstriking, and getting confidence back for each shot. You might just find that you have to drop fewer as the rounds go on! Just a little thing that works for me. May not for you, but worth a try!

Funny that I've been reading this thread, because I got my first today! On a long par 5 I holed a 60yd wedge. Extremely exciting, I wrote the date and location on it. I'll chuck it when I start picking up some aces though haha.
-
Yeah, the mulligan reset things. You holed it with a tee shot right? THat's a hole in one in my book.

I played twilight today, 4-8 or so, got 18 in. Wasn't terribly hot but a little uncomfortable I guess. I had a ton of water although the middle 12 or so didn't have any water left in the refill coolers, which was rough. Walking 18 midday last weds. was a lot worse.

Whats the difference between stiff and x-stiff?
OnePutt replied to ScottyCameron's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Obviously the shaft that performs best for you is one that matches your swing speed, so you don't have too much whip but also not a shaft that remains perfectly straight through the entire swing. The idea is to find the shaft that perfectly matches your swing, optimizing all of the conditions. My advice is to grab both from the same brand and see what happens. -
Does Golf Galaxy do this? There's one pretty far away, but I could make a trip. I was always under the impression the launch monitor there was just to try out drivers that were for sale (already assembled). That's really the only facility I know of with a LM, so I may end up with the green NV since I know it is at least satisfactory -- good idea? Pulled shafts are on ebay for like 30-50 shipped, are these inferior? I'm assuming most who pull a shaft at least know what they're doing. Thanks a lot for your input so far.

Haha yup I saw this as well. I think he tossed his club at the caddy right after making it. Kind of sad, I saw someone else who didn't make it finishing up and he smiled, waved to the crowd. Sort of disrespectful to the tradition IMO, at least the second player respected a chance to play at such a prestigious level.

I read up a little bit on the shafts and realized that my best bets are the NV65, Prolaunch red, and vista tour. Leaning towards the first two especially because I've had success with that green nv. I'd still like any input though, it will be a couple days before I decide what to do.

I have some ideas in mind to improve the performance of my new (to me) driver, please offer any input. I'm an 18 handicap, and at this point I'm okay at hitting fairways but would like to decrease the distance of my approach shot. I've hit the ball 260s or so with a borrowed ping G2, and now I have a taylormade r5 in relatively new condition. First of all the shaft is regular size, and being 5'9 I think that I could benefit from the control of a 43.5-44" shaft. The shaft it came with is regular flex, and I know this doesn't fit my swing speed because I hit the ball straight and low with optimal ball flight 225-250 or so with a real easy swing. However, when I start swinging harder, the ball will draw/fade and even hook/slice seemingly randomly. I've had experience with other drivers (Ping G2 with aldila nv-65 stiff) where this is not the case Here's what I'm thinking in terms of shafts: UST Proforce V2, Aldila NV or NVS 65 stiff, Grafalloy ProLaunch Red, Fujikura Vista Tour. I'll have the length taken entirely from the top since I don't want the driver to be tipped and become stiffer. Finally, Golf Pride player's sofftie grip. I'm leaning towards the prolaunch red because I've heard its the lowest launch of the bunch, but any input would be great.

Nothing seems to ever go my way...

Gotta practice, and don't let your mind get in the way! Take your practice swings, when your hittnig the grass how you want to step right up and hit the ball. -
90, best score ever so far. 38 Putts, this was really the only weak point with me. Six three putts, putted horribly on the back 9 as I started to lose focus, but everything else was solid. Using my cheap 5w while I await the arrival of new driver, I was getting some nice 225 drives that were straight (most important). Also had some success with lower irons, especially a 6 on a hole that I normally lose a ball or two hitting over water.

1. Could have given him a "no thanks" and walked away, at least ignored him. 2. As mental approach gets stronger, scores will improve. Just saying, not that I'm a great golfer (decent for 6 weeks of playing though) but I think mentally I can get it done.

51 today, couldn't get the driver going. However, had a great time with my dad on father's day!

This is beyond making more money and finding cheaper green fees, because that's your job. Places to save big money are clubs(buy used at store, eBay, or craigslist) and tees (buy in bulk at walmart etc rather than overpaying at course) and balls (lostgolfballs.com is a good site, also check eBay and craigslist for deals). You don't have to live horribly, but a little cutting back (or working extra hours) can free up some cash for fun stuff.

Professors Who Analyzed 1.6 Million Putts
OnePutt replied to SubPar's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
That definitely makes sense. As my scores go down, I notice that I'm getting more GIRs. Focusing on GIR is certainly a great idea, hitting to a comfortable wedge shot, etc from the green never works out. -
Congratulations! Sounds like a real keeper.

Definitely interested in more information. My grandfather was a mason.

You forgot to make the thread! I'm disappointed, but the Lakers (just like the pens) were clearly the better team.
-
x2 on the mancave, don't let it take away from golf though! Oh yeah, there better be a putting green in the works.
-
Purchase of a new driver is solving symptoms IMO. I second the lessons, the FT-I is a great driver and you could save some money.

Very much considering a purchase and that's a great point lynchjo. Will keep this in mind as I read the book. Not currently battling, but my tendency is in that direction.
