  1. Yeah I'm good on that, that's exactly the kind of course I hate as well, especially being a longer hitter.
  2. @billchao @DaveP043 What are your guy's thoughts after playing the Sea Pines courses (and the others that you played)? I am going down to HHI in 6 weeks and trying to figure out where I want to play, only playing 1 round since it is a family vacation after all. I played Harbour Town last year so as of right now I am leaning towards Atlantic Dunes since that seems to be the "next best" rated for public courses after Harbour Town.
  3. Koepka isn't really playing that strongly though, at least not strongly enough to automatically give him a spot over a year from now. His best finish in a major this year is T26, and he has a total of 4 top 10s in 12 total events. Especially when compared to Bryson who has 8 top 10s in 12 starts and never finished worse than T27 in any event. I discussed this back in the Ryder Cup thread, it's not as much of a boys club as people think when you actually looked at their stats
  4. Hoping that the team loses on home soil just because you don't like the captain is certainly an interesting take.
  5. Maybe he wasn't the first choice but he might have been the best choice that said yes.
  6. Yep, it was quite fun from the red tees and still had multiple ways to play it. A buddy who hits it shorter hit 3 wood short of the fairway bunkers and had a short wedge in. Another buddy hit driver between those trees through the cart path and left of the back greenside bunkers. His shot was ~280 or so but still had a really tricky pitch shot due to the mounding in the rough over there plus the slope of the green. Then of course you still have the option to hit something like 150-180 and lay way back if you really didn't trust any long clubs that day.
  7. Played a round on Friday with some friends where we played from 6 red tees, 6 white tees, and 6 blue tees. Hole 18 was from the red tees, about 275 to clear the ravine in line with the green. Hit driver that never left the flag stick, landed on the green directly in line with the flag about 10 feet short of the flag and rolled to about 4 feet past the flag. It had to have been within a foot or two of hitting the stick as it rolled by. Made the putt for eagle.
  8. Anecdotally, yes I think so. Played TPC Louisiana recently which had tight Bermuda surrounds and Bermuda greens and the ball checked up so much quicker there than it does from bent fairways/greens I usually play on at home. I can get one hop and stop at home, but it felt significantly easier on Bermuda IMO. I hit one of these shots today from about 30-40yds, it maybe just went over head high the entire way. My favorite part is when the playing partners immediately start saying "get down" or "bite" and I know it's going to do just that then the "oohs" when it took one big hop and stopped on a dime about 2 feet from the hole for an easy birdie.
  9. There's not 40yds of fairway at the blue line. There's like 19yds. I don't know if there's anyone on the planet who is hitting a 19yd wide fairway 74% of the time from like 300yds Nope Again, nope. And again, nope. The fairway is never 40yds wide on the entire hole.
  10. Wider than most fairways, yes (thus why I don't hit 100% of my fairways), but most holes I play have 65+ yds between hazards (or areas where I can't easily advance my ball to nGIR) so the majority of the time when I hit driver I am able to find it and have a reasonable look at the green. That would not necessarily be the case on this hole, especially because a mishit driver brings those left trees into play. PGA Tour players average 2.82 strokes to hole out from 40yds in the bunker and 3.15 strokes to hole out from 60yds in the bunker. 2.82 strokes to hole out from the fairway is like 110yds and 3.15 strokes to hole out from the fairway is like 190yds. Now granted I would only have that 50yd bunker shot 1/3 of the time, but it's still a VERY difficult shot especially for amateurs. Haha trust me I love chasing birdies, but I'm averaging 2.78 birdies per round this year so that's not my issue, I need to make less bogies (5.2 per round) and doubles (0.42 per round)
  11. The area where my driver would be landing is only ~60yds wide between hazards and per ShotScope's MyStrategy, my driver dispersion is 65yds. The reward for hitting driver doesn't really seem to be there IMO relative to the risk. The bunker takes up like 1/3 of my shot zone for well struck drives, so roughly 1/3 of the time with well struck drives I'd be left with a ~50yd bunker shot to a very sloped green.
  12. FWIW, PGA Tour it's .05 difference from 60 to 80 in the fairway I had only hit 1 fairway on the front 9 so absolutely no shot I was pulling driver. Only ended up hitting 3 fairways for the round but still managed 9 GIR and scrambled my butt off to still post a respectable score.
  13. I think "steep" is relative and means different things to different people. Some people look at VSP to gauge steepness, some people look at the shaft plane, others probably look at AoA.
  14. You can still hit steep (if you're talking about VSP for the measure of "steepness") and not dig/take a ton of sand if your low point control is precise.
  15. I've thought about this quite a bit since I've started using Shot Scope. Not all shots from a certain yardage that end up a certain distance from the hole are created equal, but I guess the thought is that over time those should even out since there would be other times where you're hitting into a funnel pin or something where it plays "easier" than what the SG suggests.
  16. To follow up on this now that I've played it, hitting something short of the pot bunkers (so 3iron for me from those tees) is absolutely the right choice. The trees on the left are quite large and there are some mounds/uneven lies around both of the pot bunkers too. I mishit my 3iron slightly but was still in the fairway with like a 9iron to the middle of the green.
  17. Won a 4man scramble charity tournament on Saturday with a winning score of 54 (-17) to win by 1 stroke. Normal 4man scramble rules plus each player got 1 mulligan, 3 of us used our mulligans but 2 guys used it on the same par 3 which resulted in a par anyway. Used mine for a 2nd attempt at a wedge shot on our last hole and it was worth it there as it brought us about 5 feet closer and another guy buried the putt for eagle. I eagled our second to last hole on my own, shorter par 5 and I cut the corner leaving 138 in after the tee shot and hit my gap wedge to a foot for tap in eagle. My last 7 drives all went 290+ and in the fairway so I was very pleased with that. Won a free round at a country club in the area which I haven't played before so looking forward to playing that later this year.
  18. I just sent a support ticket in. Hopefully it's a one off glitch but makes me wonder how many other one off glitches might exist in the Strokes Gained calculations that people aren't catching. Edit- Looks like it was a glitch, I moved the flag slightly and kept it at 2 feet still and now it's showing +0.65 SG for that shot. Weird.
  19. Since this is kinda the general Shotscope thread I figured I'd post it here. Does anyone know how hitting a pitch shot from 36yds in the fairway to 2 feet results in a -0.40 strokes gained? That doesn't feel right to me. I parred a 504yd par 5 and it says I lost 1.14 strokes compared to scratch. That doesn't feel right either. But then this hole a closer shot to right about the same proximity gained 0.60??
  20. Drained a 55 footer for birdie on the 18th at TPC Louisiana in front of a few people watching. Great way to end one of the best iron and short game performances I've ever had.
  21. Just because most of the US Team didn't play well in a 3 day event doesn't make what I said untrue.
  22. Got it, that makes sense. Looks like 3iron it is, thanks guys!
  23. So I will be playing TPC Louisiana soon, where they play the Zurich Classic, and I've been doing some scouting both on Google Maps/ShotScope MyStrategy as well as on the PGA2K23 video game and can't quite figure out what the best/proper strategy is to play hole 10. I will be playing it at 355yds with an approx. 9mph tailwind. Here are some of my P-Avg distances (total, not carry) per ShotScope Driver - 305yds, 60yd dispersion 3w - 268yds, 50yd dispersion 3i - 251yds, 49yd dispersion 4i 230yds, no dispersion metric Here is a picture of the hole along with various yardages marked Red - 229yds, plays like 219 Width to still have a shot at green on this line, 50yds Green - 257yds, plays like 246 Width to still have a shot at green on this line, 50yds Brown - 279yds, plays like 266 Width to still have a shot at green on this line, 60yds Blue - 297yds, plays like 284 Width to still have a shot at green on this line (and not be in the left bunker), 44yds I think (but not positive) that from these tees it isn't driver since a normal one easily reaches that massive left fairway bunker and I can't carry it, but unsure after that if I hit 3 wood and just accept the chance I might wind up in one of those pot bunkers, or hit a knockdown 3i/ full 4iron and lay back short of both pot bunkers but potentially bringing that right fairway bunker into play. Curious to hear how others would play this with my yardages. Thanks!
  24. On Saturday I played a short (~5900yds) but narrow course that has some quirky holes and very mature trees. Shot a 34-34 for a 68 on a par 71 which tied my lowest score relative to par at -3 (all time lowest round is a 67 on a par 70) and set my new record for most birdies in a round with 6. That included a penalty stroke bogey on a par 5 and another sloppy bogey from 125 in the middle of the fairway. Hit a wedge from 110 to a foot on a par 4 and a knockdown flighted 9 iron from 140 to 2 feet on a par 3 for easy birdies. Add in driving it greenside on a par 4 and a couple tap in birdies on par 5s and it was a good day. Also helps that I made every putt inside 10 feet and only ended up with 27 putts for the round. This is the SG compared to scratch and that includes losing 1.01 strokes approach on the 1st hole when I sliced a 5 iron into a hazard.
