  1. I use it, and then in the 100º heat when I start sweating and it stings my eyes, I have an excuse for playing bad yet again.
  2. That reminds me of a funny t-shirt I used to have: I find it hard to think of anything but: Is this going to be the typical banana slice deep into the woods on the right, or will this be the one time I hit it straight and it goes in the woods on the left?
  3. I do this also, the problem is that my wife uses it the opposite way. "We could have gone out to eat twice..." I have to bite my tongue so I don't say, "Yeah but every time I play a round of golf I get better, judging by the size of your ass, you're an expert at eating."
  4. With my handicap as high as it is, I don't gamble much but even if I was good I would keep it at small amounts. I learned my lesson when I use to play pool for money, mostly 9 ball with a friend who was close to me in skill. We started with 1$ on the 5 ball and 2$ on the 9 ball. By the end of the night it was 50$ on the 5 and 100$ on the 9. I ended up losing an entire paycheck, but I paid it despite his protests and stopped gambling for big money.
  5. My father taught me to play from a young age, and since he grew up in an age of respect and etiquette, he taught me the same. I started to pick up the game again and decided to go slow, playing a local par 3 course that's pretty fun. It's 54 holes packed close together, and hardly any trees separating fairways. I pulled my 3i-hybrid off one tee that headed for a hill left of the green where the previous hole tees off. I was so stunned I could not do anything, but luckily my partner yelled "Fore!" for me. It did not reach them thankfully, but I still remember that feeling of not being able to do anything, like when you're in a car wreck that turns to slow motion.
  6. You *&$%, thanks a lot! Now I'm not going to get any work done today, haha.
  7. I'm actually on the opposite end of this in that my wife encourages me to go play. She moved here from Wisconsin and as a result had zero friends. She met a gal at her new job and they hit it off. Turns out her friends husband is an avid golfer and his wife is learning the game, so I was encouraged to take up the sport again and go golfing with them. So now I have my pool league on Tuesday night and play 18 holes every Saturday. She get's to spend whatever money she wants on plants, so it works out.
  8. That's a tough choice for me. Happy Gilmore is probably the one I could watch over and over the most. Tin Cup was good, but I've seen it enough I think. I also liked The Legend of Bagger Vance, but that's because I'm a sucker for Charlize Theron. I haven't seen the Greatest Game Ever Played, I guess I'll have to check it out.
  9. We're heading to the Outer Banks this weekend. Are there any courses fun to play for my high handicap that are under $100.00?
  10. Yeah I agree. There should be a gallery of people sitting about 6 feet behind every hole, waving pom poms and chanting MISS IT MISS IT MISS IT, just like on free throws in college hoops. Hah, that would be awesome to see.
  11. I played the course I grew up on for the first time in 20 years...and shot my worst score of 112 thanks to my wicked slice returning and going OB a lot. However, it was all made up for on the 2nd hole which is a severe dogleg right Par 4, 335 yards. Remember that wicked slice? Curved right around the trees and rolled onto the green. I two putted from 20 feet to get my only birdie of the day.
  12. Not that I'd have ever to make this choice but I went with: They have decent drivers, irons and balls so if I was forced to play everything by them it wouldn't hurt me much. Plus I like their color scheme. Oh and let's not forget the Me / Creamer / Gublis "threesome" for charity.
  13. There was a really good article here awhile back about the handicap index of the PGA's pro. Tiger, in 2006, was a +7.9 and JP Hayes, who was barely keeping his tour card was +4.0. It's hard to qualify it though because they toughen up the courses for PGA events but don't change the slope/course rating. Here's the link if you want to read it: http://thesandtrap.com/the_numbers_g...es_of_the_pros
  14. I feel the same way about my Acuity set that I got at Dick's. It may not be the best thing ever but it allows me to go play every week. The only thing I didn't like about the set is the crappy bag and the putter. Putter's are to personal to the individual to have a one size fits all type. The only thing I've replaced so far is the driver because I found the Cleveland HiBore for 60 bucks in the pre-owned bin at Golf Galaxy. It has a lot of flex in the shaft which helped me get a bit more distance. Every year at bonus time and tax time I'll upgrade something else. I don't want to be one of those guys with the $3000.00 set of clubs and the $3.00 game. PS: Walmart sells Walter Hagen sets too.
  15. Fashion is an opinion I guess, but these prices are getting a little outrageous. First it's a $50.00 divot tool that now goes for 80+. Then a $50.00 ball marker. Now a $150.00 headcover and $500.00 stand bag? The only reason this stuff is worth that much money is because they'll sell out and some fool will pay 50% more than the original price. I'd wear the hat if it was just the one dog logo on the front, I don't like the repeating pattern on the back. I sure wouldn't pay $40.00 for it though.
  16. I think it's a mixture of several things: - Confidence. You subconsciously know that you're playing with a better putter and a good portion of golf is in the mental game. - Quality. Alot of the higher end putters are better made or have features that jack the price up like exchangable weights for customizability or that one with the computer in it that tracks your swing stats. - Resale value. You'll get a lot less depreciation on a Scotty Cameron than you will the Walmart putter. Considering how fickle some people are about there clubs and change them often, this can be a big bonus when choosing.
  17. You could try the following tips from Tiger's "Golf My Way" book: - Keep 5 or 6 extra gloves in the bag and rotate them every few holes. - Keep one end of your towel wet for washing balls and clubs while keeping the other end dry for your hands and gloves.
  18. Most of the courses around here are 30 to 60 dollars in green fees, up to 80 or 90 on the weekends. The memberships usually have a 1000 - 5000 initiation fee and 150 to 300 per month member fee. A few of them will wave the initiation fee if you put a little down and pay in good standing for six months. Usually if you play more than 4 or 5 times a month it pays for itself.

    OB Rules

Why wouldn't the second OB be teeing up 6 instead of 5? How can it be a two stroke penalty the first time and only one the second time?
  20. My group always gets 7:45 to 8:15am tee times and the grounds are still covered in dew. I HATE having to wipe grass blades off the clubs and ball after every shot. Luckily this new course we go to has a club and ball cleaner attached to the cart, so it's alot less time consuming.
  21. Wow, I wish I could get a deal like that around here, I'd be playing every day. Most of the memberships are about 1000 to 3000 initiation fee with a 150-200 bucks a month on top of that. I only get to play about once a week now, so the 40.00 green fees wouldn't save me much by getting a membership. Plus they offer a deal where you get 20 rounds for 225.00 bucks.
  22. I'm confused by the terminology because I've seen chip and pitch used interchangeably in several threads. I thought a pitch shot was a high lofted shot done with a wedge that doesn't roll much after landing. It's used to get over obstacles like a bunker or water. A chip is what I think of as a iron shot with a short putter stroke (like 6 inches or so) designed to hop over a foot or two of fringe then land on the putting surface and start rolling.
  23. I wish you had a picture of this because I can't envision it. EDIT: Nevermind, I found a product called the Frontline Putter or something similar that had pictures etc. It does look promising using that natural underhand tossing motion.
  24. I've never been to a range that had the parking anywhere but behind it. Most ranges have netting in places that a normal human being couldn't hit if they tried, like beyond 500 yards, so they should atleast have that.
  25. That's awesome! I'm new to the game, but if I had to make a rules decision I would say it falls under 25-3: Wrong Putting Green If a player's ball lies on a wrong putting green, he must not play the ball as it lies. He must take relief, without penalty , as follows: The player must lift the ball and drop it within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief. The nearest point of relief must not be in a hazard or on a putting green. When dropping the ball within one club-length of the nearest point of relief, the ball must first strike a part of the course at a spot that avoids interference by the wrong putting green and is not in a hazard and not on a putting green. The ball may be cleaned when lifted under this Rule
