  1. Choke down. Just a thought...
  2. I'm lost, why would the lie angle change if the shaft was shorter? Isn't the lie angle the angle between the shaft and the ground at address?
  3. I just played my first round with the Speedline Fast 10 3-wood and I have to say, I have a whole new confidence off the tee. I'm long and erratic with a driver, so I got this club to play off the tee when a driver could get me in trouble. I'm surgical now. I can work it left and right, high and low. I didn't hit a poor shot with it all day. Its even easy to play off the deck. Take this for what its worth, as I have no 3-wood experience to speak of. This club replaced an erratic 15 degree hybrid. I'm very happy with my purchase.
  4. I'm 6'4" and haven't really considered it. Ball position is relative, so I wouldn't expect a difference in ball position for identical swings from a 5'5" golfer versus a 6'6" golfer. With this in mind, I suppose that things could get confusing when talking about driver position. An inch inside the leading heel for a shorter golfer would likely translate to more than an inch inside the leading heel for a taller golfer, due to the probable wider stance of the taller golfer. As a proportion, however, I would expect them to be similar.
  5. I agree. I tried this last summer and consistently produced a low-flight, controlled 220 yard shot. Its a great tool to have if the situation presents itself, but I find that the partial swing doesn't generate enough distance to score well with my long irons. Personally, I'd rather hit a 9i out of th rough than a 5i out of the fairway. Just my .02
  6. I'd break it down to which you would realistically use more often. If a 48* wedge would save you more shots than your 5 wood, I'd make the switch.
  7. Sounds good. Thanks for the feedback everyone!
  8. Care to elaborate? Is it as simple as "not getting through the ball" or are my driver woes more deeply seeded?
  9. Here's a still of my posture at impact. Thoughts?
  10. Is there any way to demo these shafts to figure out what I really want or do I just have to start buying and trying them?
  11. Its been awhile, but if I recall my launch angle was around 12-13 and my spin rate was about 3500. I'm playing a 9.5 Tour Burner with the stock RE*AX 60 in an X-flex.
  12. To clarify, my typical ball flight has a high launch. Occasionally, I'll balloon one pretty bad, but generally, they just launch high. This isn't always a problem, as I get pretty good distance in mild conditions, but I'm in trouble in the wind. Considering the 10-20 mph winds we get in Kansas, I'd like to bring the ball down for more control.
  13. I'm looking to put a new shaft in my Tour Burner and want something that promotes a way-low ball flight. Any suggestions on where to start? I've never played a shaft that I couldn't sky; will moving to a low launch shaft mean boardy feel? Is there a way to demo shafts or are they an all-in sort of thing? I'd like to stay below $100 if possible.
  14. If you look at the spin rate in the table versus the placement on the figure, you'll see that the Pro V1 does spin more than the V1x.
  15. I'm really satisfied with my SQ Tour bag. Its durable and has plenty of storage. The quick ball access is nice too. One downside: it doesn't like sitting in a cart. It tends to twist funny.
  16. I won't be satisfied until i shoot an 18...
  17. For me, it depends on the shape of the hole and the size of the landing area. If hitting driver means a 10 yard landing area versus 30 yards for a 3 iron, I'll hit the iron. This past week I drove the green on a 287 yd par 4. It had a slight dogleg left and was wide open up tp the green. No problems hitting driver and I was fortunate enough to make a good shot. Naturally, i three-putted, but that's a different story...
  18. My set is built 1" over, and I recently had extensions put in my wedges. It was the greatest choice ever. I had trouble staying in my stance for full swings as the standard length was so short relative to the rest of my set. Now I'm a sniper from 100 in. Add extensions (or reshaft of you think it matters, mine are fine). You will be glad you did.
  19. Everyone's swing is decending at some point, correct? Thus, a "sweeping" swing as you decribe can't be had without first swinging on a decending path from the top of the golf swing? Moving the ball position to a point just before your swing bottoms out ensures a descending angle of attack. Sure, if you simultaneously change other things, this tactic won't work, but neither will anything else for that matter. Just a thought. I'm not a coach or anything, but it seems logical to me.
  20. ...which means you are correct. There are two ways to affect the spin of a shot: 1) Vary the ball position like you've mentioned. This varies your angle into the ball, increasing/decreasing the amount of spin. 2) Vary your swing speed. Speed means spin. Given two identical attack angles, the one with the higher swing speed will spin more. Swinging easy will typically generate similar distances, only resulting in lower shots that tend to release a bit.
  21. Could be many reasons. You could be decelerating into impact. Could be taking too much divot. For me, my divots (and resulting shots) were horrible when I focused on trying to take a divot. Rather, a divot is a byprodct of a quality swing. Find the bottom of your swing arc and position the ball just before that point and you should be good to go.
  22. I got the ball from a buddy who bought a box and had the same problem. He couldn't get them 20 feet off the ground. His swing speed is probably in the low 90s though. Mine's closer to 115. The ball was brand new.
  23. Interesting... Like I'm talking 50% lower ball flight. This wasn't subtle by any means. Just curious...
  24. For those of you who've played this ball, have you had any issue in launch angle? From my understanding, this ball is supposed to promote a straight ballflight (versus the e7 which is supposed to have a penetrating flight). I usually hit the ball pretty high. I'm also fairly long and have tried all sorts of balls to keep the ballflight down off the tee. I would say for reference purposes that my average drive carries 240+. I tried this ball last week and its a laser off the tee. I've never played a ball that I couldn't get in the air. This ball carried maybe 200 and rolled the last 50. Unreal. Even irons/wedges had lower ballflights. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Or was it just a weird ballstriking day? I only played the one ball, and hit it into the woods on 9, so couldn't experiment further.
