  1. Well there is now. Love him or hate him he was the most influential architect of his generation. Unfortunately, a lot of his trademarks have been “cheapened” by the countless copies that had half or less of his vision.
  2. Noted!
  3. Man, not sure how I missed this topic when it was posted. Anywho-sounds like a fun challenge. With being a 18 capper I will make this a Par challenge (but will track birdies too if they happen!). My home course is a 27 hole course, so I choose my favorite Houston course that I play often as well....Memorial Park Golf Course. I have played once and made 7 pars! 11 more to go this year.
  4. Me and Colonel Bogey have had quite the competitions in our day. He is the favorite unfortunately.
  5. I assume the hole you thought this was can be found here: https://www.americanclubresort.com/golf/whistling-straits/the-straits/the-straits-hole-by-hole/no-7-shipwreck
  6. Shot 42 yesterday on the back nine of an executive course I frequent in the area. (+11). I played solid bogey golf on every hole except #13 which is my nemesis hole.
  7. Dunes Golf and Beach club, Caledonia Golf and Fish Club, Legends Resort (few different courses, but I recommend Doaks Heathland course), and Arcadian Shores is supposedly pretty good.
  8. If your going to be in Bastrop, then I recommend you play Wolfdancer at the Lost Pines Resort.
  9. yeah 3 years for me.
  10. I played with a guy on the SHSU golf team when I was on the track team there. I think I broke 50...and he shot even par and was playing around being aggressive from everywhere because we played from 6500 yards.
  11. Mid-90s at High Meadow Ranch in Magnolia. Have not hit my driver well lately. Irons are above average, chipping has been solid, and putting cones and goes.
  12. Unless you know someone who works there..or knows someone who knows someone...you will pay the rack rate for whatever season you are playing in. Also a lot of the courses are tied to resorts, so resort guests may get small discounts on tee times (10% or so most likely).
  13. I went from 18.3 to 18.5. So barely moved. Would have appreciate the other direction 😀
  14. 93 yesterday. Teed it forward due to windy conditions. Driver was horrible, worst I have hit it off the tee all year. Irons were average, short game was pretty good, and I had likely the most lights out putting day I can remember. Made 5-6 putts outside 10 feet.
  15. Ok finally time to plan my golf goals for 2020. here they are: 1) Same scoring goal as last year (which I didn't achieve), I want to get my handicap at or below 15.0 before YE 2020. How am I going to achieve this? - Get Another Full Swing Lesson and work on my priority piece throughout the year - Modify some of practices to be more game like training - Re-grip my putter, and spend a little time each week working on speed control 2) Play More Golf than Last Year - I played 29 times in 2019 (including my round tomorrow), and will strive to play 30 times in 2020. - I will try and play at least every other week even if it is only 9 holes - Play 9 holes more often when my lunch break permits 3) Get my list of Golf Courses Played up to 70 (currently at 60) - Play Golf on my planned trips to Colorado, North Carolina, and Tennessee this year - Play at least 5 new courses in the Houston area - Play at least one course that ranked a "7" on the Doak Scale in the Confidential Guide
  16. +12 in regards to Par, though the course was less than Par 70 it was an awesome day. Best on a typical par 70-72 golf course is 85 a couple of times.
  17. Pshhh 90% of my buddies cant break 100 so I usually have bragging rights, and I got three kids 3 years and under.... Show me the money!
  18. Take the money for sure. 95 is just a few shots higher than my scoring average so ill take a below average day on the course, and $1000 in my pocket thank you very much!
  19. Alright, time to recap some goals! Goal #1- Failed - I did lower my handicap by over three shots (and still dropping), but I didn't get to a 15. I will likely finish this year around 18 flat. So still some work to do - I did get a lesson, which got e on the right path to a committed swing change. Felt awkward as heck at first, but man I haven't shot triple digits since march so I am happy with the results so far. - I did improve my putting and short game. In fact, though my ball striking did improve, my putter was a huge star for many of my rounds this year Goal #2- Passed - Due to the lesson, I have improved my mechanics and saw a huge increase in distance this year. My average drive is between 240-250 yards this year - I averaged over 260 yards in driving in two or more rounds this year - I had an almost 400 yard drive! Cart Paths can be strategic you know....😁 Goal #3- Passed - I played exactly 10 new courses this year and reached 60 total golf courses played in my lifetime - I finally played a Tom Doak designed course (my favorite modern architect), after he re-designed Memorial Park here in town - The total list of course I played this year are: Tour 18 (Houston), Willow Fork Country Club, Hermann Park, Sharpstown Park, Glennloach Pines, Melrose Park, Wildcat (Lakes), Forest Creek Golf Club, Warnimont Golf Club, Memorial Park Golf Course
  20. Once. Played a twilight 18, and in order to speed up the round we played alternate shot. Unfortunately my team lost the match, but to date it was one of the most memorable rounds I have had. I have wanted to try again since, but have yet to have the opportunity.
  21. The last revision of 2019 was positive...down just a hair to 18.3. Hopefully will get down to 18 or below by Jan 1.
  22. It's a great read IMO. I can't wait until Christmas to get the next volume (Volume 5...but 4 was delayed so its actually the 4th of the 5 books to be released). Since you are in England, the first volume will certainly peak your interests.
  23. Nice. It was given an 8 in the Confidential Guide so your rating is pretty fair. I could see how some people would rate it a 7, and others a 9.
  24. I don’t really know what the stimp reads, and it’s probably a horrible guess but I would say somewhere around 10. A few courses I play in the area probably reach 12, but not many.
