I have CB1 and CB2 three woods. As others have said, they're extremely long and have a very nice feel, definitely nice equipment.

I've kind of settled into the Adams 9015d as my favorite driver. I like the look at address and taller clubface. The muted sound and feel is awesome, I can feel the face rebound when I hit one well. The low spin, mid flight is the best I've found for my swing as well, when well hit this thing seems to give me a solid 10yds over other combos. I have been playing a 9.5* with Harrison Saga 70s shaft, I just today received the 9.5* Axivcore Black 79s that I picked up on Ebay...can't wait to hit it. I'll probably start fiddling around with my i15/Axivcore Red as well, I think if I cut .5"-.75" off the shaft it could rival the 9015. I'm still hunting for a head with the same characteristics as the 9015/i15 that isn't open face or weighted for fade bias, my miss is left so I need a low spin/square setup.

Played 18 today at Country Club of Petersburg. Had heard that this course had the nicest greens in the area and it didn't disappoint, very true rolls and plenty challenging. We didn't have a chance to warm up so it took a bit to get the kinks worked out. Hit the driver very well all day. We played the whites and many holes position the white tee where there is a large tree obstructing the right/left side of the fairway directly in front of the tee, basically requiring a very accurate tee shot to slip past the tree and still hold the fairway. I was able to buzz these trees all day and was very happy with my tempo and distance. Also learned to hit the ball high, and was able to cut some corners on doglegs that really helped get into scoring position. Irons were crap all day, just no distance. I've hit a lot of balls this week and just never loosened up, so I kept falling short after good tee shots. Had some issues getting up and down from odd positions, so I didn't score very well. Greens were terrific, much faster and more undulating then my home course. Took a while for me to "reconfigure" my putting to deal with the speed, but after it came around I made some decent putts. Pins were brutal all day, so I faced tough shots around the green with a lot of shortsided pins, and cups set on knobs around the green which made for tough short putts. Just one of those days when I didn't play bad, but scoring was tough. Basically, I need to play these tougher courses to sharpen my game. Blew up on one par5 after a pulled tee shot and took an 8, should have been an easy par hole. Shot 90 which was disappointing, but eliminate the blowup and it would have been a decent round. Looking forward to playing again.

Top Flite Gamer V2=Major bag of suck
chilly replied to Forest's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I found the V1 to spin quite a bit...much more then any other budget balls and as much or more then the TM Reds that I had been playing at the time. -
Got out for a quick 9 on the back of my home course with a neighbor. Goal was to help him get around, he's new to the game, and try to work on my short irons. Also, pro shop had a Superfast TP so I grabbed it to demo for the round. First hole, hit a pretty good drive that set me up well, hit an 8iron a little short of the hole and got up and down. Figured that was a good omen and decided to play the nine straight up with no extra balls or whatnot. Driver worked well but the 46" length is definitely too long, I only hit one ball on the screws all day. Irons were sharp, hit 5 greens which is high for me, and misses were just misjudged club that came up a bit short. Finally feeling comfortable with longer backswing. Short game was pretty good, got up and down when the shot wasn't too tough, and didn't make any major mistakes with tough lies or shortsided pins. Putting was solid, had 16putts. Distance control was much better leaving easy tap ins. So, came to #18 just two over, a great round for me. Didn't know the exact score but knew it was pretty good. Hole is a short slight dogleg right from elevated tee, with water WAY right. My "miss" is a fade, so I usually just start it left and let the fade work, good drives will have me inside 100yds. Decided to try to hammer one to get it to 80yds or so and give a birdie opportunity...and as I should have known, turned into a full blown slice and put it in the water. Tough shot from where I had to drop, ended with a double bogey and a 39. Very solid score for me, but disappointing. Lesson learned, even if the hole sets up for a miss, swinging hard is just a dumb move.

I've been looking for another 9015d as a backup to my current gamer, and stumbled on one on Ebay shafted with an Axivcore Black 79s for a pretty good price, so I bought it. I really just wanted the head as I'm happy with my 9015d/Saga setup, but I like the Axivcore Red in my i15 and figured I'd try the Axiv Black. So, does anyone know much about these shafts? Reading the specs, it's higher launch then the Axiv Red, but that's not saying much. Is it something along the lines of a Saga/Fubuki/Blueboard...or even higher like a Redboard/Prolaunch Blue? Should be interesting, I'll see how it works out, may end up trying the Axiv Black in my i15 driver as well if I like how it feels.

In general, longer hitters I've seen hit the ball high...ball flying through the air is meeting less resistance then running on the ground. Pros to High Ball flight: Increased distance Distance independent of condition of the fairway Not effected as much by tilted fairway or "bad bounces" while running out Can "place" the ball where needed (less runout lets you drop the ball in position say when you cut a dogleg and need it to stop before running through a fairway, also lets you carry fairway bunkers instead of possibly running through them) Can cut corner on a dogleg over trees Great when hitting downwind Cons to High Ball flight: May let a bad slice/hook carry further offline Decreased distance hitting into wind Take less advantage of firm fairways Pretty much flip around logic for pros/cons of low ball flight.

I'm playing TM's now, I bought them all used in very good shape. They don't have the "name" of Cleveland or Vokeys, so I picked them up very cheap. I prefer them to the Vokeys I used before, they are less clicky and I'd say they spin more around the greens...they're a bit lighter as well and I'm hitting better full shots with my GW.

I've tried a bunch of grips and the MCC are definitely my favorite. I just hate the cost if you're going to regrip a set of irons. Besides the texture and general feel, there's something about the larger taper from top to bottom that just works for me. I also like the Lamkin 3gen, but found them to be slippery now that it's getting hotter and hands are sweaty. Have to find some deals on the MCCs on Ebay.

As others have said, a driver switch will not fix a bad swing, plain and simple. The 905r is the "high handicap" version of that club from Titleist, it's not a low handicap only type of driver. I had one, it was no worse to hit then any other modern 460cc driver. The shaft is a little heavy, but at 100mph you can definitely use it. Believe me, I've probably gone through 10 drivers trying to find the "magic" combo...you can make slight tweaks in trajectory/spin/forgiveness on off center hits, but you're not going to fix a 30yd slice or push. I've done a driver fitting using all sorts of different shafts and clubheads, best to worst was like 5yds distance, and around 2yds difference in total dispersion.

Best Value for a High Spin Ball is.....
chilly replied to Chicago Seminole's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I can still find TP Reds for $30 at the local GG, I find them to be a great all around ball. Also, I thought the Gamer I played last week was a great ball, tons of spin around the green...I bought the original version for $15 this year. -
How many balls did you lose today?
chilly replied to Boeing777's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Didn't lose one yesterday, which is only the second time I've been able to do that. Played a Bridgestone e7 and it still looks perfect, tough ball for sure, I'll probably keep it in the rotation for a few more rounds. -
Shot an 82 yesterday at a different, slightly tougher course then my home course. My low round is an 81, so I was pretty happy with the round. Didn't keep stats because another guy was keeping score, but have a fair recall of the round. This course is much more open then my home course so I hit a lot of fairways, but still fading the ball. Much better then the last few weeks, but still not getting through the ball. Not slicing, ball starts out straight then tails off. I think I still need to work on keeping my right elbow connected. I only hit two drives on the sweet spot all day as well, need to keep working on the driver. Hit a few 260+, it was nice to be back to short irons. Mid irons were solid, not great. Got more rotation on the backswing and yardages were up, so that was encouraging. Pulled a few short irons well left though, so I need to figure out how to swing more down the line at the range. Had a lot of half wedges into greens with mixed results, hit some solid, but skulled a few. This continues to be an issue, I'll have to keep working this at the range and come up with a consistent technique. Part of it is just confidence in the shot, I know at least one I tried to "help" the ball along. Short game was either great, or sucked. When I kept my head down and focused on the ball, I got up and down with kick-ins...but I had a few bladed chips simply from peeking. It irritates the hell out of me when I do this as it's so simple. Putting from long distance was terrible, beyond terrible. Greens were quick and I never adjusted, just kept pounding them past the hole. I made a BUNCH of 5-6ft second putts, or it would have been a 5or6 three putt day (had two). Missed a couple short putts for birdie that were simply a case of me locking up and not trusting the stroke, need to practice putting for sure this week. Oh well, could have easily been my first round in the 70s if I didn't screw up some easy shots, but my game is definitely getting more solid and eliminating more mistakes. More practice this week...

I've hit a ton of them, so far it's my Ping G10 5w with Proforce V2 HL shaft. Very solid feeling, very easy to hit off the deck, good distance, perfect trajectory for a 5w.

Finally bit the bullet and got a shaft puller...

I really didn't look at the instructions, it's pretty self explanatory once you see the puller. -

I've been reshafting clubs for awhile, but even using a heat gun I end up mangling the tips on shafts because i didn't have a puller. I used a modified crowbar to pull the heads, but it wasn't enough leverage to pop the heads loose without adding a ton of heat. Finally bought a Roberts hydraulic puller from Ebay, total price with shipping was $95. The other night I did three pulls, and re-installs in 45min, the difference is amazing. Also, the clamp is SO much easier to use for regrips and whatnot then the plastic vice insert I was using, and much safer for the shaft. If you guys have used those plastic club clamps you know what I mean, you have to pop them on/off the shaft and then insert it into your home vise. The shafts I killed before were all POS stock shafts I didn't care about but I've started pulling some decent (Aldila NV, Prolaunch Blue) shafts that I didn't want to hurt so it was time to step up. Anyway, if anyone is in the market, I think the Roberts is a very good unit for the price. Only issue is that the crowsfoot will scratch the paint on the shaft just above the hosel...I have to remember to put some tape on that area before pulling shafts from now on.

What length to get my driver cut to?
chilly replied to JML22's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just reshafted my MX 700 and built it to 45", from stock 45.5". Not exactly an apples to apples comparison because I changed shafts, but I can tell you that the .5" really does make a difference, I hit it on the screws quite a few times last night and hadn't had that kind of success with it with the longer setup. I haven't gotten into messing with swingweight yet in my club building, personally I don't find it to be that big a difference. -
Same drill this week, worked on more width and longer backswing again. One of my playing partners that I hadn't played with in awhile said my backswing was ridiculously short and I looked to be trying to control the club too much instead of just swinging the thing. Quick summary, I basically just worked on pushing the club away on the backswing, and getting a full turn (keyed shoulder under my chin). Picked up 20yds on everything from GW to 3h, that simple. Ball flight looked better, got rid of the weak fade, I was very happy. The old pull/draw came back, but I worked on swinging down the line and it definitely helped. This was just a matter of working on the swing positions too much and gradually just getting the swing too constricted. Worked driver with the same thoughts and had the best session I've had in a long time. At first I was hitting a big push, but worked on turning my hips towards the target and hit littledraws. Huge increase in distance and pop, felt better lag. I reshafted my MX700 driver and TEE CB1 3w with Prolaunch Platinums in 65/75g this week and hit them. Nice shafts for $30. Brought ball flight down on the driver, and up a bit on the 3w. Very controlled but smooth, great dispersion, seemed to be low/mid spin. The 3w especially responded, I hit it a ton compared to the old Aldila NV it seemed, higher launch worked for me...but it's still just a mid flight.

Yes, just to clarify, that's my once a round if I'm lucky pure strike, I don't average anywhere near that unfortunately. I've run a few golf simulators and 285yds is about my theoretical max distance with 110ss and a well struck ball.
-
Confirmed on two Trackman at a demo day, longest drives on course are in the 285yd ballpark. You want any more data?

I have to admit that I'm just not a good enough player to see much difference in golf balls. I've played AD333, Trispeeds, E6, E7, TP Reds, NXT Tour and Extremes, Laddie Extremes, Pentas, etc. Basically, I've had good rounds and bad rounds with all of them. As a 15hcp, I never have the consistency to say for sure that one ball or another is longer off the tee, or pchecks up better around the green. I think I'm a pretty typical 15hcp, and the consistency just isn't there to say for sure that the ball is causing a certain action. Until today that is, I finally played some TF Gamers I had laying around. I've had balls spin back before, but every well struck iron 8i down spun back today. I've had balls check nicely before, but every crisply struck wedge shot spun and checked hard today. Unfortunately, most times I wasn't prepared for this and left a bunch short, but that's not the ball's fault. That said, by the end of the round I had the confidence to hit chips a little sharper and was cozying them up close to the pin. I guess all the "hype" is correct, these are some spinny cheaper balls. I know the Penta and TP Red should have been acting the same, but I just didn't see it, could also be that I'm chipping a bit better now. Anyway, just reporting what I saw, this is the first ball I can say with confidence is a true "spin" ball around the green. Can't say much about distance with the driver because I didn't hit squat with the driver today, but it seemed to be as good as any other ball I've used in this respect.

Adams Insight Tech a4 prototype 9015D
chilly replied to jrwingate6's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have a 9015d that I reshafted with a Harrisin Saga 70s. I bought it after reading the golfwrx.com reviews. It's pretty much true, this thing is a low spin bomber. I hit it mid trajectory, if you catch it on the screws it will absolutely murder the ball. It's fairly forgiving off the toe, but I find it pretty dead if hit towards the heel. I LOVE the feel, I definitely get a "trampoline" effect when well struck, and it has a nice muted sound. I picked mine up for $53 used, and have just over $100 in the total package...it's a great value. I'm actually looking to get another one.
