  1. 92. A sloppy round. Normally on a new course I play the senior tees but yesteday I played the whites. Got not 1 GIR. Putting was spotty too. Driver is still good but my irons are way short. Need to work on that.
  2. No 6’s. Great shooting.
  3. I see Phils point about a shorter swing. A tall golfer could swing a longer driver. I’m short so it would be a telephone pole to me. My view on this is that they are ignoring competition. Pros play against each other. Cam Smith pushes his tee shot OB and loses in a playoff to Finau. Billy Horschell won this year, Phil and Steward Cink won (older guys) and one of my favorites, Kevin Na is still competitive. You have to beat 140 other guys who have a caddie, coach, physiologist, head shrinker, and one in a million talent with a percentage of them playing at their peak. The amateur, weekend warriors are trying to win a skin looping their own clubs, on courses that aren’t pristine, with equipment that hasn’t been tweaked on a Trackman. The game is already bifurcated! I wish I had a green book yesterday so my approach shots were on the correct tier of the green, or a caddie to remind me to club up. But its fair because my playing partners are playing under the same conditions. I think this is a non problem thats why their solutions are being embraced by no one. The guys looking back to the good old days should remember those days meant most people could not afford to play and some were barred from it.
  4. Shot 83 today, 44/39. Plus 10 on the front, plus 2 on the back. Driver and putter were on today. The front 9 took me a few holes to get dialed in. But once I got through the first 5 holes things settled down.
  5. Congratulations to Tony Finau on winning the first FedEx Cup playoff tournament. John Rahm looked like a lock at the turn and faltered, Cam Smith made a charge but Tony prevailed with steady golf and some really good putting.

They look weird to me but do your thing. If he wears them like that around here in July the biting flies will be very grateful.
  7. 88, 45/43. Finally broke 90 on this course, Suffolk Golf Course. Driver is working ok. Approach shots just not getting on the greens.
  8. Yes! Stepping away for awhile helps me.
  9. Instruction worked for me. I am encouraging my struggling friends to do the same. You need an instructor to identify your problems and give drills to fix them. As Harvey Penick said in his Little Red Book and I’m paraphrasing, what you would find in six months of experimenting on the range a good instructor can identify in five minutes.
  10. I say go for it. If he’s good enough he will be successful. I wonder if he qualifies as an amateur for USGA tournaments?
  11. I know people who are good at Top Golf who wouldn’t be able to get around on a real course because you don’t have to get the ball in the air. It has a place in the amusement park domain but its not the same as golf.
  12. 96 tuesday, 90 wednesday. Suffolk Golf course. Too many triples. Tuesday, course a little soft. Some chunky iron shots and chunky chips made getting on the green a challenge. Putting saved breaking 100! Wednesday, round 2. Front 9 47, Back 9 43. Irons much better. Had a string of doubles and triples before the swing settled down. It was hot and humid, two oppressive days for golf.
  13. I think people misstake obstinance for strength. It takes strength to fight a disease. Obstinance is just letting it run rampant despite experts warnings.
  14. You actually did not ask a question so I’ll just say, enjoy your time on the course with your wife. If someone gives you a look ignore them, you paid your money, enjoy it like you want to. If one day the driver starts calling you from the closet, this forum will be here to help, if needed.
  15. Bryson started the beef with Brooks so he has to live with it. As for the taunting, I remember spectators would count the number of times Sergio regripped his club before swinging. I think the tour needs to clamp down on spectator behavior. They are guests at the course (many private) and should respect that. Also the players are exposed out there. Just them and their caddie surrounded by a crowd. Thats intimidating, and threatening enough. I was pulling for Harris English. He’s been hot lately and I like seeing someone breakthrough and win
  16. May I get my 80 badge now? Thanks.
  17. 79, 38/41. Two blowup holes and needed to par the last three holes to break 80. Driver was on the money today. Hit 12/13 fairways. Approaches were on or just on the fringe. Putter was on fire. It needed to be since my approaches were not close. Only 1 3-putt. Two birdies on the par 3’s. The shot was so close the ball should have just gone in. One of those magical days.
  18. Shot 79 today! Everything was clicking. A couple of blow ups but got back on track
  19. They are a fun group of guys. The stories they tell are epic.
  20. Shot 85, 41/44. Lost 3 balls on two water holes but cleared one. Overall a decent round for me. Two 7’s on the card 😡. Hooked up with another single and had an enjoyable day. Question though. How does humidity affect distance? I find I have to club up. The ballflight looks right but when the ball lands its short.
  21. I’ve learned to tune them out. When paired with randoms, if they are real golfers we’ll get along just fine. But players who have bad habits, I sight their ball then head to mine. I have my own goals on the course; have fun, no sevens on the scorecard, and no lost balls. That keeps my focus.
  22. Slow play is not keeping up with the group in front, unless its a group of really fast players. The question is how to remedy it. I play with guys who shoot high 70’s low 80’s whose pre-shot routines are intermidable. In addition they are elderly and just move slow. So as the young-un in the group I rush, especially on the green. They play from the correct tees, it just takes them forever to go thru their routine. Yesterday I played as a single. Arrived at the course at 3 and was told to be off before 5 due to league play. I finished in 92 mins and played thru two other groups. My goal is to not 3 putt and no 7’s on the card. Shot 85. High scores does not automatically mean slow play.
  23. Shot 87, 40/47. Two blowup holes near the end derailed a great round. One, the par 5 that gets me, I dunked it into the stream that bi-sects the fairway. Double bogie. The next hole is a par 3. Tee shot into the sand trap, took 3 strokes to get out 😡. The last hole is a par 5 and I ended with a bogey. Except for that stretch it was a great round. i think my nutrition was off so my concentration was diminished. Gotta experiment with that some more.
  24. Shot 83, 41/42, my lowest round ever. No 7’s on the scorecard! Everything was clicking for me. No blow-up holes, no lost balls, no penalty shots. One of those magical days!
  25. 89. Great outing on a hot day. I’ve been off the forum for awhile. My swing got so messed up I couldn’t break 100. Really frustrating. But I’m on the right track now, got some lessons and now striking the ball again. I almost had a no-7’s until a bad chip caused an 8 on a par 5 that bedevils me.
