  1. My bad, your post on with the course scorecard wasn't update while I was writing my response.
  2. But if your average is 77.2, isn't it below your handicap? My course has a rating of 71.1 and slope 135 (par 72, 5838 meters) and I get five shots. From the medal tees, which I assume is where you play from, CR is 72.8 and SR is 139 so I get seven shots. Assuming your course has a similar slope table, or even more difficult seeing as it's 73.2, shouldn't your handicap give you 79 shots? I would think an average of 77.2 from the medal tees is closer to a 3 handicap than a 5. Sorry for the detailed summary, I'm just interested in how handicaps are determined in other countries.
  3. I would think, as others have said, that your GIR percentage is a little on the low side. I have the same exact handicap as you (assuming it hasn't changed) and hit around 55% of GIR. I struggle with putting, averaging around 33 putts per round, but that doesn't seem to be something you struggle with. Our par 4s average 370 yards and I'd assume that is a decent average distance with the longest one at 400 yards. However, I understand it can be quite difficult with holes up to 470 yards to hit the green in two. It seems that your longer clubs can be a great weapon for your game so my suggestion would be to work on FWs and hybrids like you've started doing. In addition, improving your scrambling % always leads to lower scores so working on that would help you lower your scores further. What's the par of your course?
  4. Any suggestions out there? I'd like to have some things to work on now that the season is over.

    Broke 80!

And due to that the round doesn't count? Here in Norway our scores count whatever the rules are, as long as you're playing following the rules pick clean and place is still allowed. Congrats on the 79! Felt great the first time I managed one. Just one brief question, how do the handicap regulations in Ireland compare to those in the UK. As an example, here you can't go less below a 4.5 index unless it's a round in tournament play. How does it work over there?
  6. Thanks uttexas and s_m, I've worked hard on it so I'm glad it looks good. My aim has always been to find a visually pleasing swing, hopefully having it work as well.
  7. Now I'm wondering who they'll pick to compete in the world cup. Will they stick with the Molinari duo? They got some touch decisions ahead of them.
  8. We have four sets of tees at my course. Red is the women's tee. Light blue is the women's medal tee. Yellow in the men's tee and White are the men's medal tees. As expected, the course plays way different from the backs. The whites play 6890 yards while the yellows play 6400 yards. It's the longest course in the area but I rarely see players tee of from the whites. The funny thing is that the club's most important tournaments are all played from the white tees (for the men) and the average stableford scores are around 30 points. I really wonder why none ever plays from those tees.
  9. Haven't recorded my swing in a while so I decided to do so today. Focused on irons so that's what the videos are on. I apologize for the lack of light, I tried to find a nice spot at the range. Here are the two links: 9 iron http://www.metacafe.com/w/5391009 5 iron http://www.metacafe.com/w/5391016 Thanks for the help, andef
  10. I'm not aware of a standard blade length but you should know, unless you already do, that the shorter the blade length the more workable a club will be. This is due to the CG of the clubhead being closer to the hosel. Player's irons often have a smaller blade length than GI irons.
  11. Just ordered a pair of Limited Edition DryJoys. Haven't gotten them yet, but based on the approval of a few of my friends who have them (both are 3 handicappers) I decided to pull the trigger. Tried them on at a store and they felt very comfortable, just couldn't find the right size and a good looking style. I'd say you can't go wrong with any of the more expensive Footjoy models.
  12. After seeing the pictures, I'd say it's a very good price for the clubs. They have a good shaft in them, new Multi-Compound grips and are good heads. And if you like them. You could always put the shorter irons in play...
  13. Any wedge on the market that has between 58 and 60 degrees of loft and around 8 degrees of bounce. Every one will give their own preference, which will differ vastly. But if that's what you want, I really like my Vokey 58.08. It has enough bounce that I can use it out of bunkers or when it's wet but work well on tight lies or if I need to hit a flop. Just a very versatile wedge for my game.
  14. It sounds like a great deal to me. If the clubs are in good shape, which I'd assume seeing as they've been used for a year, and have good shafts and brand new grips I'd go for it. Just an S300 shaft with a grip will cost you around 15$. Assuming they are 3-PW, you're paying 4 dollars for a very nice forged head.
  15. Rain pants. Under Armor, a polo, a mix between a fleece jacket and a rain jacket on the top. That's usually enough for a temperature of 7-8 celcius or more.
  16. Every club I've seen that comes with a Project X graphite shaft as stock shaft has a real one. The VR does and the same goes for the Titleist 910.
  17. That's nonsense. A club can fit you well no matter what swingspeed you have as long as the shaft is fit for your swing. You could probably turn a starter set driver into a very good club if you find the right shaft for your swing. If you think about, that would mean that an R9 SuperTri with an X-stiff shaft could only be used by someone with a 95-100 mph swing speed while in reality it's suggested to people above 110 mph.
  18. Driver - 185£ 3 wood - 135£ Hybrid - 125£ 3 iron - 70£ Irons - 520£ Wedges - 150£ Putter - 130 £
  19. 1. Gear changes - Nothing planned here. Found a very good set up and I'm happy with my ball as well. Ordering the Limited Edition DryJoys and changing cleats to Softspikes Black Widow Tour. I know, what a massive change. 2. Nothing planned. Football season is over in a couple of weeks. Will continue aerobics/conditioning once a week at school. Might go out running sometimes. 3. Lessons - Work on my swing with the club pro. I want to get rid of the draw that's bothering me with my mid/long irons/hybrid and achieve the straight flight that accompanies me on a decent ball striking day. I feel like having a "stocK" straight shot allows me to work the ball both ways easier. Hopefully go to Spain with the club's Norwegian juniors for a week. 4. Personal goals. Get down to a 1 or 2. Increase my GIR percentage from 55% to about 65%. Average 30 putts per round, currently around 33/34.
  20. There are so many solutions to that. Play a lower spinning ball. Hit pitch shots with a less lofted club. Work on your motion to reduce the action of the wrists. Play the shots with a lower trajectory. Don't complain that a very good wedge limits the number of shots you can hit when it's your technique that's causing all the problems
  21. What shots do you struggle to hit with the Vokey wedges? Not judging from your handicap only, but most PGA Tour pros feel like they're good enough to hit the shots they need to play every week. But then again, I wouldn't trust what the PGA tour pros say or play, I'd rather listen to a 20 handicapper complain about one of the best wedges on the market.
  22. It really depends on the conditions for me. From 110-100 yards I usually hit a soft PW or if I feel very confident try to smash a 54 which can get me just about hundred yards and a decent amount of spin. Usually a normal 54 is about 95 yards while 80 yards or less is 58 degree land unless the wind is strong and I gotta play a knockdown 54. I'd say it's really up to you. Practicing with the 56 can help add a strong weapon to your arsenal but so is the ability of hitting an 80% PW. It's helped me massively rather than trying to land a SW on the top tier of a green and risk having it spin back 20 feet to the front of the green. A nice easy PW which runs about 15 feet after it lands is perfect in that situation.
  23. 1. You'll get that from pretty much any forged head. 2. At a 6 handicap, I'd assume you're looking for something between a blade and a GI forged iron. Take the Mizuno MP 68 as the blade and the Mizuno JXP Pro. I'd say you're looking at something like the MP 53, MP 63, Titleist 710 AP2, 710 CB. 3. All the clubs mentioned above look fantastic at address and aren't far away from a blade style clubhead. You have a great amount of options. Just keeping this between Titleist and Mizuno, if you want a touch more forgiveness you can pick between the AP2 and the MP53. If you want a touch more workability (take the forgiveness tradeoff into account) then I'd go for the MP63 or 710 CB. Personally, I recommend the AP2s because I play them and love them. However, I'd say the best looking club on the market (excluding blades) are the MP63.
  24. Ye I do the same. But a towel works just as well, it's just a pit of a pain to get the clubs out of the bag sometimes.
  25. You would experience an upgrade in the shaft. If you're a decent driver of the golf ball I would suggest you go with it, especially if you found it at a great price. As your swing improves you'll eventually benefit from the better shaft as it will be more accurate than a "made for" shaft. Plus, you can adjust the head to favor whatever trajectory you prefer.
