  1. Yes dumbest thing ever! The 8:00 group did show up, along with the 7:45 group from C, who for some reason wanted to get on B and the starter allowed them to!!! I was arguing with the starter that I wasn’t going to move, but the ladies in my group did not want any drama so they said fine and moved away. I was upset at them too for not backing me up... Because two groups squeezed in out of order, at one point we had 4 groups (9:15, 7:30, 7:45, 9:30) all on a par 4 hole. It really messed up the pace on B for the rest of the day.
  2. I have no issues with the 7:30 group turning infront of us to maintain pace if they are early and they did so at 9:20, not exactly my tee time yet. But the starter kicked my group off the tee box at 9:42 so the 7:45 group can turn! It made absolutely no sense at all! And if my group were all men, this wouldn’t have happened. I blame this on 1. The club for assigning a 9:30 tee time on B, knowing that people will be turning. 2. The starter for not knowing how to do his job and 3. The 7:45 group to not stop the starter from approaching us. If I were in their shoes, I’d have told the starter not to bother since the other group was already teeing off. Yes. ONE month left and I won’t have to deal with all these drama!!!! I don’t want to use this platform to complain so hopefully I will be able to start contributing to real golf talk soon!
  3. @billchao The group in question was the 7:45 group (we are doing 15-min tee) which came to the turn AFTER my 9:30 group was already on the tee box. This happened at 9:42 because my group had to wait for the faiway to open up when the 7:30 group turned infront of us. The starter actually drove up to interrupt our group and asked us to step off the tee box for the guys to turn... @bkuehn1952 Exactly my question! I would never get to tee off if I have to give way to those who are turning. Then what’s the point in making a tee time? When we finally got to tee off, a twosome walker was already behind us and the whole time we were stuck waiting for the group that cut infront of us, and the twosome was on our tail. I later found out the group behind came from C and should have turned to A, but they decided to turn onto B and the starter allowed them to...*roll eyes* @Double Mocha Man yes, the club double booked the 9:30 on B. Idiots!
  4. I know exactly the kind of people you are talking about! My local muni has a very nice chipping area but every time I go, there’d be a guy with lots of balls hogging the whole area so no one else can practice!
  5. My club is 27 holes - A, B, C. A turns to B, B turns to C, C turns to A. The guys in question started A at 7:30 and are supposed to turn to B after 9:30. I started on B with a 9:30 tee time, turning to C after 11:30. My tee time was last am time on B because those players on A will start turning on B after me.
  6. I had a 9:30 tee time today. I got to the tee area at 9:25 along with the group that was turning. Since my group was not there yet, the turning group turned. A few minutes later, my group got up to the tee box and was just teeing off when another group turned. The starter came up to us and asked us to step off so the guys could turn. We were upset at that because we were already teeinv off and got into an argument with the starter. He said those turning has the right of way over those with a tee time. Of the last 3 years that I played at this club, I always played the front 9 in less than the 2 hour pace, but we always had to wait for those who had a tee time and turn behind them. This is the first time I have heard of those turning early has the right of way. So which is it? Was it wrong for the starter to tell us to let the guys go first when we were already teeing off???

    Hand pain

This is my first time getting hand pain in the 4 years of playing golf and I am not sure if it is from overuse, injury or incorrect form. The pain is on the back of my left hand (right hand player) below my middle finger’s knuckle. No issues gripping clubs, slight discomfort at takeaway but severe sharp pain at impact. Pain goes away rather quickly until the next impact. I started noticing mild pain maybe two weeks ago but yesterday was the first time I had to drop my clubs after impact because of the pain. Mild trigger finger with the middle finger. My swing path mostly just sweep the grass without taking divots so I am not pounding into the ground much. Talked to a friend who is an orthopedic surgeon - he said bones are unlikely broken or fractured, but could be soft tissue injury. Since he is not a golfer, he has no idea how this could happen. I know I should stop playing golf and let my hand rest/heal, which I am doing for the rest of the week. But just wondering if anyone had similar experiences to share. I was only able to finish 9 holes yesterday but I played one of my best 9, scoring a 37!!! Woohoo!
  8. Pretty sure there are signs all over my club reminding people to wear masks, especially inside the club house or proshop, but no one is complying, not even the person who runs the show. He does not believe in wearing a mask or social distancing so all the workers aren’t doing it either. Some players are still congregating in large groups despite the 15-min tee times and when other members brought it up, the response has been “So? This is a private club. They can do whatever they want.” The range is opened and although they have increased the space between mats, people are still hanging out in groups there...
  9. Where I live is at maybe 6000ft. Paako is right behind the mountain at 7000ft. I do feel I hit the ball farther at Paako, and also have shortness of breath easily. Paako is a rather new course built in 2000. They used to be more affordable but the new owners who bought it a few years ago raised the green fees to $200 flat rate. No twilight, no discounts, nothing. It is still a public course but I cannot imagine too many people willing/wanting to pay that much to play there when there are other very nice options for much less. They are on Golf Digest’s top 100 last year. Green fees include cart but you can walk if you want to. I think 1-18 is walkable but 19-27 is a stretch. It can get windy here but usually in the afternoons. I don’t like to play in the wind (or cold) but luckily the weather is pretty decent here most of the time. No, have not tried any other drivers and I really shouldn’t! I really don’t need anymore clubs!!!
  10. How have you been? I was wondering what happened to you since I have not seen you around lately. Yes, my current club is only 5 mins away and Paako is exactly 30 mins door to door. It’s not too bad since the drive is easy. I was able to get the tee time I want all the way to July! No need to stress or scramble to get a time. It is alot more expensive to play there but they only have 50 members v. hundreds at other clubs. I am going to enjoy it as much as possible. I am still a member at my club for this month, so I will play there during the week and head over to Paako for the weekends. So far, we really like it there and I am eyeing a home in the community....we will see. I have only played 4 complete rounds since starting golf in May and I have been doing pretty well. I should be able to maintain my hcp eventhough Paako is alot tougher (72.9/141) v (69.5/129). I scored 78 twice already! Woohoo! I have not bought any new clubs since the m5 tour but am eyeing a SIM now. I cannot resist if it somehow gives me extra 10 yards! I am sure you will reach your goals in no time once you golf more! I probably need to work on my putting too as I am giving strokes away too easily... Take care!
  11. A senior player I know likes to buy clubs from Callaway Pre-Own. He said they offer great prices/condition, trade-in value and returns if you don’t like the clubs. He is constantly swapping club through the program.
  12. The GM and director of membership called soon after I emailed them my notice. I told them the issue with tee times and how the lottery is rigged to allow the same people to get tee times, and I was told I wasn’t the only one quitting and complaining about tee times. There are not too many options in my town and this club offers a great deal, and perhaps that is the problem - too many members. Many live within the community so they don’t really have the option to leave. My new club only has 40 members but a 30-min drive away. It is also a difficult and expensive course so not many want to join there.
  13. My setup remains the same regardless of where I play. So does all the junk in my bag - I just looked through my bag yesterday and found a Poipu Bay Golf Course scorecard still in my bag. I played there in 2016, so I guess I have not gone thru the bag since then!
  14. Is there a mandate for X minutes? I heard the governor called our GM about members congregating and next thing we know it is 15 minutes... Thanks for your offer! We are going to Paako for the rest of the season. We played there last weekend and had the whole course to ourselves until hole 16. Nice to be quiet and peaceful!
  15. Golf is supposed to be fun and relaxing, but it has been very stressful for me to secure tee times. So my husband decided to join another club so I don’t stress him out too by complaining every day! Do you prefer to play alone or do you mean a regulation course wouldn’t even fit you in with a 3some to play?
  16. I am not the only one who has been watching the tee sheet and notice who keeps getting tee times. There is definitely favoritism at my club for a bunch of members. I asked the headpro and he said tee times are scheduled by a lottery system so everyone has a fair chance of getting/missing tee times. And if they always get a tee time, then they are just lucky. Yeah right... This has been a problem for many years and it is likely not going to change because the headpro is not going anywhere. It wasn’t as obvious when we had regular 7-min tee times but very obvious now with limited availability. I just turned in my 30-day notice to end my membership and have joined another club that only has 40 members with wide open courses!
  17. I have been a member for 4 years and there were times that I wanted to add myself to a double/threesome but the golfpro said I cannot add unless I ask for permission first?!?! The players block the open spots online. They either request a time with 4 names or they just put “member” or “guest” as placeholders so once the tee sheet opens, no one can add to it. The headpro is still allowing certain people to request tee times with just one name + 3 “member” as placeholder and these people don’t update the names so you never know who or how many end up playing.
  18. Happy Anniversaries to @CarlSpackler and @iacas
  19. @David in FL We can put in a request a week out and the lottery will be done 3 days before play day. Once the tee sheet opens, we can take whatever is available. No shows are very common at my club, so is people hogging times to play alone. The proshop sent out a letter asking people not to hog tee times but people are still doing it and nothing is being done about it. Since it is a membership club, no payment is involved... As for the 15-min tee times, no idea how that helps with social distancing. Rumor was that when we first opened up and had 10-min tee times, a few groups of players congregated at the tee boxes. A member saw it and took photos and videos of these guys not social distancing/wearing masks and sent them to the governor. A few days later, the governor called the GM and we have the 15-min rule. But this still did not promote social distancing. The same guys are still congregating at tee boxes. And the head pro response to that was “this is a private club so they can do whatever they want”. And it created another issue that the course seems empty so we got people sneaking on to play, fish, swim, jog, etc. My course has always been busy on weekends but I never had trouble walking on whenever I wanted during the week. But I cannot even get a tee time now because the tee sheet is completely packed! Even if I wanted to join a threesome I couldn’t because people block off the extra spot so no strangers could join... @NM Golf are you still around? How is it at Arroyo?
  20. Is anyone experiencing any problems getting tee times at your club? My home club is doing 15-min intervals (used to be 7-mins) so the availability has been cut in half. Since reopening at the beginning of May, I have been having difficulties securing a tee time, both during the week and on the weekends. Weekends are especially bad when we get 90+ tee requests but the club only has 50 available. It is very frustrating to have to stalk the tee sheet for cancellations...but lots of members just don’t show up or they block their slot to play as single/doubles, and my club is doing nothing about it...
  21. I have been doing quite well this season but we have decided to leave our home club. Moving to a new club tomorrow and will need to do a par challenge instead since it is a tougher course. But I am pretty sure I will at least par every hole once this season!
  22. I rarely shared a cart with anyone before covid, so I am not sharing a cart now. With my husband, yes. But not other players, friends or not.
  23. I have been playing 18-holes every day since my club officially reopened on May 5. We used to have 7-minute tee times which the club extended to 10-min at reopening. But starting this weekend, it was increased to 15 mins. There weren’t enough tee times to accommodate all the members and this weekend was a mess. 25 groups did not get to play on Saturday and 32 groups did not get a tee time on Sunday. Yet the club still allowed singles/doubles to take one slot by themselves and as usual, some groups did not show up and did not cancel either. And we still have non-members sneaking on to play since the course was practically empty with that much time between each group. I had to run off 4 groups of people for sneaking on. I don’t get why so many people think it is ok to walk on a private course that they don’t belong to!
  24. Didn’t get any stimulus money but I still purchased a few things to help the economy.
  25. No not the same people. I played as a single yesterday and pace was very slow. The group behind me caught up and asked to join me. Funny thing was I asked one lady in that group earlier if she wanted to play and she said she got a group already (but did not invite me to join)...and ended up playing with me. I had fun but it’s difficult to remember about social distancing at the tee box or on the green. I still prefer to play alone. I played 18 this morning with my husband. Course was full and saw multiple groups of 6/7 players! We breezed thru the front 9 in 1:15 with no one ahead, but back 9 we had to wait at every shot. And one guy behind us tee off at hole 14 and the ball landed at my feet and bounced another 10yds at my husband...not sure what his rush was! I still have my game. Shot an 80 today. Maybe lost 10yds or so on my drive. Irons are doing surprisingly well, gained distance and accuracy for some reason. Not sure how since I have not been practicing. But the extra distance threw me off and cost me a few extra strokes. There are no holes/flags yet so no way to aim other than center of the greens. They did paint red/white/blue circles on the greens but they all line up the same, just left/right of center instead of front/back of center. Whoever painted them must not be a golfer. My club will officially open with tee times on Tuesday. Looking forward to it! Are all the courses opened now in your area? I plan to play every day of next week to make up for lost time.
