  1. I looked up the specs and the Nike 3 hybrid is 20* loft and 40.5 inches long. The Cleveland 5 wood is 18*, 42.75" and the 7 wood is 20.5*, 42.5". The extra shaft length of the woods should make the 5 wood at least a full club longer than the hybrid and the 7 wood should be about the same or a little longer than the hybrid. So the 7 wood and 3 hybrid are indeed the overlap. To be honest, as a relative beginner, you will be fairly inconsistent with any of these longer clubs and will probably be fine with just a well spaced two of the 5 mentioned clubs. Even an intermediate player is just trying to get it in the general vicinity from over or around 200 yards.
  2. Typically 7 woods and 3 hybrids are supposed to go around the same distance. Decide which of those two you like better and see if you can return the other one for a 4 hybrid.
  3. I have been struggling with this technique for a few sessions now but this tip really hits the spot. The knuckle down feeling is very strange to me since it is much different than my normal takeaway but it just works like magic for this pitch. It got me up from about 30% to 90% the outcome I want (on the practice range).
  4. I believe the above image is common when you shoot a swing without high speed video. Your club is not really flexing like that, it's an illusion caused by your frame rate. Also, if it really were bending that much before you hit the ball, it should straighten by the time it gets there. My advice would be you've got nice new clubs, now just start playing them without going farther down the equipment rabbit hole. Regular flex will work fine unless you have a very fast swing and late release.
  5. What's going between the 6 iron and 5 wood? I play the recoil 95s in f3. They feel really good and I like the extra weight. I'm sure you'll love the 660s.
  6. I was B-Fit for Bridgestone TOUR B330‑RX golf balls Phil Mickelson -16 Brandon Grace -13 Charley Hoffman -10
  7. If I ordered them to spec from the factory I would contact Callaway about replacing them. If I got them from EBay for less than full price I would live with them.
  8. I say play 13 clubs, win, and then brag that you won with just 13 clubs. Seriously I think the advantage of having either more than one high lofted wedge or more than one fairway wood between 3h and driver is minimal to nonexistent. I used to play with AW, 55* at the bottom end then lost my 55 and got a 54 and 58 just to get to fourteen. I could definitely ditch the 54 without affecting my scores. I'm sure it's different for better players than us.
  9. My guess based on those numbers you posted is that your contact is worse with the 6 and 5 irons. Makes sense because longer clubs are just harder to hit. In addition to (obviously) improving your swing you could consider hybrids all the way down to 6 when you get your new set. I'm not sure it will help since super GI irons are supposed to be pretty forgiving but you should at least mention it to your fitter and see if you get better gapping. Regarding putting, my opinion is that 80% of the battle is just trying damn hard on every putt you take. Make sure you know if that 30 footer is up or down hill every time. Be committed to hitting it firm or letting it roll. Stare down the hole till you instinctively know your speed. Meticulously line up every short put. If you change your mind about something while about to putt, step out of it and start over.
  10. I personally doubt there is a noticeable difference in performance among any of this year's (or the last few years') SGI irons. That being said, I think the RSi 1s are the best looking of the bunch and I would choose them if I were in the market.
  11. So I accidentally deleted one of my videos in the OP then replaced it. Is there a way to edit the link? I used a new method of posting the video to youtube and the default category it gave me was "comedy"! Haha, how far has artificial intelligence come.
  12. Thank you very much for the reply. I could also see that lack of wrist hinge and hands going far behind my back were two big things that separate my swing from an pro's. I didn't think that they might be related though. Here's a clip of some living room practice trying to get my backswing like Eric in the video you linked. To me the final posterior attempt looked and felt the best. My feeling was to lift my club almost entirely with my body and turn rather than my arms, since when I feel myself moving my arms they just want to go around my back. I'm a little worried about trying to hit balls from this position though. I've tried something similar in the past without much success either making contact or even being able to do it with a ball in front of me. If I can get some confirmation I'm on the right track I'll give it another try. Regarding my grip, I suspect even after reading that article that it is fine and that the way I'm taking the club back is what makes it look otherwise. I previously consciously tried to keep to club square/closed/rotated clockwise all the way back which inhibited wrist hinge. Here's a video just in case:
  13. I've been Playing Golf for: I played one summer after high school and got to where I could shoot around 100. Once a year after that until my early 30s. Then I got a nice bug and played or practiced regularly for about two years. Then once a month till age 37. Now I'm 38 and have been back at it for about 6 months. My current handicap index or average score is: 10 and I suspect it's still dropping a bit. I only have 18 recorded rounds since my comeback. My typical ball flight is: I guess a draw when I'm swinging the way I like but I can start in either direction (accidentally) and hit some pretty nice fades. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Mostly I don't want to start it right (left handed) which often also means a mishit. I can occasionally make most bad shots you can name. I basically just want to hit it farther and straighter. Duh. Videos: 8 iron and driver. I'm aiming a bit right of the yardage markers. The face ons are not great, sorry. I'll post new ones when I get the chance to record some.
  14. Where you a 17 index as your profile shows when your broke 80? I'm currently a 10 and I've never broken 80. I tied it twice from the ladies tees though.
  15. You've stated that your swing speed is 88 mph and you hit it from 230 - 240. According to swing speed charts available online that is about as far as you can hit it with that speed. It sounds like your current driver is fit perfectly to you.
  16. I want outrageous speed with a Callaway XR driver! Rory McIlroy -1 Brandt Snedeker -1 Martin Kaymer -1
  17. There's no question that a double eagle is harder and I would have a lot personal satisfaction with one but a hole-in-one is widely thought of as the perfect golf hole and I think I'd rather have it on my bragging resume.
  18. I've played a lot of golf and feel silly for not knowing this, but what does a tee mark look like and how does it tell you whether your face was open or closed?
  19. Obviously they are both the greatest of their respective times which is all you really have to go on. Still, if Jack in his prime were magically transported to the next major with all modern equipment I would still bet on Tiger.
  20. I've recently adopted a new swing thought, especially with my driver, "swing hard" and let me tell you it's got me hitting it fantastically. The thing is swinging hard means different things to different to different people so it's not a great idea if it makes you just come over the top harder, for example. For me it means really engaging my lower body at the beginning of the downswing, as if I were trying to throw a hard punch or throw a ball a long way, so basically just swinging better. Whenever I'm having trouble with the hooks I especially think, "swing harder," and it usually turns my hooks into bombs.
  21. From your post, I'll just go on the assumption that you've got $2000 to blow on clubs when you could have spent $200 and that you'll surely want to change in a couple years as you improve. All the big name companies offer similar clubs so if you like Taylor Made, that's as good a choice as any. You probably don't have a very consistent swing right now so testing different companies won't mean much to you. The clubs you picked will probably be fine but if you want to go a bit more game improvementy/forgiving how about this: Driver: R9 460 Fairway: R9 Irons: R7 CGB MAX or Burner Plus (Plus has more draw bias) 5i on down Putter: The full size spider Hydbids: Burner High Launch (one or two between your 5 iron and fairway) As far as club fitting goes, the free static fitting that a large golf super store will give you for buying new clubs will be as good as you need.
