Not sure why this popped in my head tonight..but as I setup to take swings I notice my knees kind of buckle "inward" toward each other. I am thinking of trying to push them out a bit (not a lot). I am curious actually how it will affect my swing.

not at all. Tiger didn't qualify for the Tour Championship, so he shouldn't be in it. I just think the entire Fed Ex point system is a joke and whether you think its moot or not, I think if you win a Major Championship, for crying out loud, you should have the opportunity to play in the Fed Ex Cup. You mis-read the article. The par based system applies to the Playoffs ONLY, not regular events. If you qualify for the playoffs, good for you. Now keep up with field in terms of strokes and see who is left standing at the end. I agree the Sabotage article was just plain stupid. Tiger didn't qualify, move on next. No tears for him. The par based system, IMO, I think is a pretty good idea and has logic behind it. exactly. so what? If that guy who won 18 tournaments and all 4 majors sucks balls in the first playoff event...well boohoo for him, he loses. I don't care if its Tiger Woods or some 1st time pga tour rookie. If the Indianapolis Colts win 16 games in the regular season, and then lose the first playoff game...I wonder what happens? Oh thats right, they hop back on their plane to Indy because the year is over. In any sport...you bust your ass during the regular season to get to the playoffs (nba, nfl, etc....). How you play during the regular season doesn't matter once you enter the playoffs..because poor play is not rewarded. In football, you are gone if you lose 1 game. In NBA, you have 7 games to go at it, etc.... EDIT - I read your last post... I see where you are coming from. Honestly, the playoffs should be a match play format. Just let people knock each other out of brackets. That is how every other playoff system works, why does the PGA Tour have to be different and overly complicated. The regular season play builds up their "seed" position (not world ranking)..if you knock Tiger out in day 1, oh well tough luck.

Tiger Woods "Slam" irons sold? I don't believe it

wow..I may have to retract my original statements. Wonder why Tiger would deny it though? -
Awesome 3 minutes of footage of Hogan's swing from YouTube
majorchamp replied to Ben's topic in Golf Talk
another good Hogan swing video Also, love the golf shot at 44 seconds in this next video...absolutely sick: Also surprised how much his head moves back on the backswing during longer clubs. For some reason was under the impression his head didn't move much at all. Look at 1:30 in to see the checkered wall background. -
Tiger has the intimidation factor only because people are aware of what he is capable of if the stars align themselves. I believe his play itself will begin to intimidate people starting next year when he improves this winter and begins winning tournaments again. All he needs is 5 PGA Tour wins and 1 or 2 majors and the intimidation factor will be back. Right now, its a suppressed intimidation factor..like "Will Tiger this week..." versus "Tiger probably will this week". I am not sure John can fix his driving issues though. If these swing doctors are struggling to help him...not sure John can. Though his driving is improving under Foley.

The author of that article is a moron for even trying to make the case the PGA Tour failed to do what it could to secure Tiger a spot. It is just plain stupid. Tiger is no more special then any other PGA Tour player. He follows the same set of rules as everyone else. The only thing that makes him different is the media power he harnesses. Television contracts shouldn't dictate whether PGA Tour tournament rules should be modified simply for a better television rating. I don't care if Tiger bring a television crowd..if he plays like crap, he plays like crap and doesn't qualify..no different then John Doe or Phil Mickelson. edit - and the fact this article got the green light to even be published is an embarassment to golf.com

It's not illegal to download a copy of a video if its for personal use. It's not like you are downloading Avatar, you are downloading footage on a free website so you can view it at a later time. If you were to take the video, and then try to pass it off as your copy and/or even try to make money off it...that is illegal. If it were illegal, then plugins for Firefox like "Flash and Video download" would probably be illegal. -
I find it incredibly hard to believe that a set of irons that Tiger used during a span of time considered to be the best in golf history were given to an ex titleist employee as a gift. http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2010/0...-irons-sold-k/

Yea, wish it was public..but it is what it is. Glad Foley apologized for being a jerk. I still think, in my personal opinion, P&B; are hurt on the not getting true credit thing...too much of a bruhaha got made out of this for that to not be a factor, but to move forward we all gotta swallow our pride a bit. again, personal opinion :) So if Foley is going to start publically acknowledging that he is teaching S&T; principles to Tiger.. and there is a collaboration now between Foley and P&B; regarding this "pact" or whatever you want to call it..will Tiger be in on it as well (such as media room questions, etc..) or will he leave that simply to Sean? So what I did take from that first paragraph "we've learned a lot together and from each other" is that P&B; are pretty much going to lie for image purposes so this doesn't turn into a "hes wrong, I'm right" type of debate..since the conclusion I have taken from postings on this forum is that Foley has been the one learning from them, not the other way around. So now Foley gets credit for helping them "learn" :) Damn Tiger sure is powerful :) and when you get tour pros looking up into the camera saying "I'm stacked"...is just very cheesy. I see nothing wrong with this interview. His comments seemed fair and I don't think he sounded like an ahole or "dumbass". Only way someone can look at it differently is if your trying to read between the lines or has some inside knowledge.

anyone have any good club throwing stories. My father tried to win the long distance throw with his 3 wood one time..I think he got to a point where he wanted to stop..but it was too late, the club went sailing into a giant willow tree....clubhead fell out of the tree..the shaft didn't :) -

Ever have those moments you slice a ball toward a house...and you just wait...waiting to hear glass breaking :) -
Playing a college tournament back in 2002. Wind was HOWLING that day..probably 50mph gusts it felt like. Got to my 2nd shot on a par 4...about 120 to the pin, dead into the wind. I grab a 7 iron with the plan to hit a punch. The SOB ballons on me...the ball lands short of the green by 20 yards. I stood there in disbelief..I hit a 100 yard punch 7 iron.

haha ... well some people in this world are rude, they are wired differently and regardless of the situation they are rude to even members. I have seen it. remember..after duffing your 2nd shot, yell "DOUBLE TURDS" really loud :)

Most embarassing thing that has happened to you on a Golf course

true story, Hunter Mahan used to play in tennis shoes. When I played in the Kiawah Island FCWT tournament against him (not in the same group mind you), I saw him on the range without golf shoes. I think it was the norm for him. Probaby like practicing in bare feet, allows you to keep your balance and tempo. in regards to embarassing...I was playing with 3 guys about 6 years ago. I was struggling and was dropping f-bombs, GD's, JC's, etc... and go on to ask the 3 guys what they do for a living. One guy answered he was a pastor. Didn't say another cuss word the entire round and felt like a tool. -
be respectful to members. You are a guest. Say please/thank you, etc.. like you normally would. In fact, just be yourself, but unless there are local rules or something...just be polite and have fun. If you make an ass of yourself, are rude, etc... it will come back to bite you..whether its via the AJGA (who probably have a relationship with the course) or members complaining. on a side note...a pristine course here in Indy, Meridian Hills.... has one of the dumbest rules I have ever come across. About 10 years ago was playing there on Father's day. My father and I made the turn just in time for my sister to join us. What we didn't know was women are not allowed to start on the back nine..they have to begin on the first hole. We were so angry we left that day. stupid stupid.

Nice! I thought that was a great presentation and explanation. A pet peeve of mine is when example videos (for anything in life) go to extremes to make sure the point gets across, because then neutral people like myself have to connect the dots to determine where we fall in the problem/solution category. When the release happens in the video above, the club is going SO low and so far left...I don't know how realistic that is for most golfers. You guys are teachers (I'm not) so maybe you see that very often. I personally release early in the swing as has been noted like 100 times on here :), but the lowest point in my follow through looks like this and my club actually begins to move vertical to the point where the shaft is pointing straight up at the sky (from dtl view). Now, I have a Tom Lehman type follow through, so trying to work on turning more "around" my body on the follow through like Erik does in that video is something that has been very hard for me to do. And based on my existing release pattern + trying to follow through in that manner...maybe my club angle would be MUCH lower and more horizontal like Erik has shown around 1:09 in the video. I can tell you right now if I was to rotate around my body more on the follow through based on my existing release pattern, my ball will be heading 100 yards left :)

Who here does wrist/forearm exercises?
majorchamp replied to majorchamp's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have worked on some forearm drills the last 2 nights. Specifically, doing one similar to what Jamie talks about with the barbell, which makes sense because he is working on a hinging motion when doing it. I have been using a 20lb dumbbell to start off with, and will work up to the 45lb barbell. I have also worked in some weighted rotations using a 10lb dumbbell, and wrist lifts (palm up and palm down) with the 10lb dumbbell. Surprisingly, the wrists/forearms don't tend to get as sore the next day as other body parts. Think its ok to do these daily..or is it like any other exercise..give yourself a day break in between for that particular muscle group? -
I am getting my game back...having basically 2 jobs, kids, etc.. compared to 2001-2002 (my peak years) is like night and day on the golf course...so my career rounds exist back in that time frame. - lowest round 64 (8 under) with 2 bogeys. slope 130, rating 71 - best lowest round 65 (6 under) with 3 bogeys, slope 126, rating 71.9 (harder course IMO)

I think if its in a personal setting, like they are at a hotel on vacation, or with their kids, or having dinner..maybe leave them alone, but if its in a general setting I see no reason to not saying something nice to them. They are celebrities (some more then others) but they have fans..and they should be appreciative of those fans. I think the younger guys like Bubba would really like fans coming up to him..whereas Tiger would rather have his finger nails pulled out one by one. Was at a fancy hotel in Maui in the early 2000's and my wife ran right into Alec Baldwin, and later we saw Eddie Murphy with his wife/kids. My wife badly wanted to go meet him, and I told her no, that he was having breakfast with his family..he didn't need to be bothered. I think there is a time and place. It drives me crazy when you see particular fans "lose their mind" like in the case of Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, etc... I don't get it. Then again, I am not a 12 year old girl.

Ok, this falls into 2 categories. A legit long drive with no influences like cart paths...and then a long drive that has influences :) 1. I have driven a handful of par 4's around the 350 mark, usually golf outings..and only on days that are dry, and maybe some wind at my back..so I get a lot of roll. I'd say the longest one I have measured is like 365..I don't even recall when that was though. 2. In a college tournament, I blocked my drive right and knew it was most likely going out of bounds because there is a cart path merely 10 feet from the OB states all along the right side of the hole. My ball is literally over the OB markers at the peak of the flight, and I see it drawing back in (magically wind maybe?) and lands perfectly on the center of the cart path and stays on it for like 100+ yards :) It was like a 560 yard par 5..and I had wedge in :), so for rounding figures I think it was 420 yard drive.
