I think nearly every part of my body is injured even both my thumbs, how does one injure both thumbs, but the good news is they are light injuries everywhere almost perfectly balanced 🙂 I take heart from the list of all the injuries I once saw to Mick Doohan a local legend who lives in my city was world 500cc motorcycle champion, the list was of all the broken bones nearly 100 breaks. Mick has a mass of nuts, bolts and steel holding his brittle bones together, and one time was an hour away from having his leg amputated if the break didn't stop hemorrhaging internally. Now while I'm not recommending getting injured or playing injured, Mick's injuries put mine into some perspective. I just try to work on more muscle strengthening, posture, and stretching and adjusting my swing for more use of muscles than joints at impact and I am also working on convincing myself to practice with a smoother slower swing that is maybe 1 or even 2 clubs down on distance in practice rounds - I'm hoping this will all help.

Legs - Is Left Leg Straight Just a Beginner Thing?
PerfectStriking replied to PerfectStriking's topic in Golf Talk
Thanks Erik, yeah I believe a mostly extended lead leg is the correct position at impact, but I don't think it is as passive a thing as it seems to be taught in golf, the only leg muscle active teaching seems to be on the back swing. Down and at and through impact it just seems to be taught as a joint straightening thing of the left leg and the whole active use of muscles in the legs into, at impact and through seems to be never mentioned to us amateurs, particularly the right leg which just seems to be taught as just trailing the hips. I'd say the use of leg muscles at impact is almost totally not mentioned into, at and through impact, it really confuses me how such big muscles and such athletic and powerful parts of the body can be taught as so passive into and through impact? -
On legs in the downswing and at and through impact, I've been doing a lot of work on legs and feet in my swing and I'm finding that almost treating the legs like doing a squat dead lift to help yank the ball off the ground like a power weight lifter is sort of working with a few variations for a golf swing, it's a work in progress, I can see why Nicklaus said he worked a lot of foot work. It seems logical to try to get power and stability from the legs and also terminate the lower body swing with strong leg muscle resistance for the upper body to then swing through and not just straighten the left leg which seems like a very leg lazy move? I also find a lazy move with the right leg and the two legs working independently to be really odd in the golf swing which seems to be what most of us amateurs do, using both together to pull up and terminate and resist and stabilize seems a really good use of such powerful muscles, I think it is also helping the lower back and left knee as a shock absorber and this shock absorber rather than a late bolt straight leg seems to give more smoothness and spring to the ground part of the swing, and pushing down through the feet almost trying to grab the ground feels solid. Anyone else done work on using leg muscles actively in the swing, particularly at and through impact.

"Of all the hazards, fear is the worst.” Sam Snead. After hitting it straight all day today then 3 into the water left and right on a water hole I agree.

Yeah I just think the best ball striking can come from a lot pitching and it's easier on the body to practice, if you can strike it pure when you are not going at it in lots of different lies you can strike it more pure when you are

I would say that a negative or tentative swing comes from not swinging your own swing and to me that is a bad attitude?
-
On that swing plane thing these are great videos, they prove what I found today in my own swing, no swing is great the player is great in this game, not the swing although getting back on plane is a must right?
-
I'd also say he has more lag than a cowboy's lasso at a drunken rodeo, he even does a lasso move at the top
-
What I find amazing about Jim's swing is how upright he is at the top, so this has got to be the best example of proof of swinging on multiple planes I've ever seen

Hi all, I've been searching my memory and my own experiences and the internet for the golf quotes about swing that are the best ever, I've come up with the following two, what are yours? I think Jack Nicklaus said these but various others including Ben Hogan have said similar things over the years... "Swing from the ground up" "Lead with the lower body"

Might be getting a little off topic here, anyone had any experiences in this, I'm not really looking to analyse my results. Thanks!

Smarter Every Day and a 500 MPH Golf Ball
PerfectStriking replied to dennyjones's topic in Geek Zone
Soo good, for the jet propelled club head rotating robot arm thingy, his club head was in front of his hands 🤣 but his AOA was perfect, that would have flown across the whole golf course, can't believe how much a golf ball can take in some of those videos- 7 replies

Maybe you have a lost golf ball site like the one I use in Aus in the states, as I just read online that they maybe don't deliver to the States? I Googled for used balls in Florida and a few seem to come up this looks like a good deal, 180 pro v1/x for USD 115 shipped, not sure as I never used them as I don't live in the States, but the same sort of site in Aus is great titleist mix balls - Golf Balls Galore I've got a site I use in Aus that sells bulk titleist practice balls for 59 AUD, 41 USD for 200 balls, so about 20c US per ball, which is a mixture of used but not badly damaged titleist balls that are not NXT Tour nor Pro V1, they also have bulk used Pro V1 and a lot of other balls. They are really reliable for the titleist balls, I used it 3 years ago a few times when I was playing and now I'm playing again have used it again for the bulk 200 which I recommend for not caring about whether you lose them or what they feel like, better not to get used to one ball when starting out IMHO, or if you want then you can go for the used Pro V1 at under 1 USD per ball for 50-100 balls bulk.

Hi Erik, well actually you're right, I only know that mine are all over the show not too high 😬 as I was tested today at numbers between 3100 and 4500 on my 3 wood off a lowish tee, at 3100 it was a great result, wish I could hit it in the low 3000 all the time. I'm just not sure why I could, I'm thinking hitting up but, that seems to go against keeping hands in front of the ball. I didn't test the driver, probably I should do that first. Maybe leaning back and pulling up, but again off the deck would be really difficult pulling up without topping the ball? Maybe only off the tee can get low 3000's with a 3 wood? I suppose I'd like to be sure I can have a consistent way of swinging at least the driver and 3 wood that produces the lower spin rates of below 3000 for driver and low 3000's for 3 wood, not very concerned about other clubs. I was just interested in any other journeys to knowing how to do this from golfers? Thanks.

Looking for personal experiences of if you have ever consistently reduced your spin rate on your driver and 3 wood, how you went about this? Is it still working, did it effect your game positively and were there any negatives, how much did it effect your game? This is sort of my next step in changing my swing, so wanting to learn from the real stories of other golfers. Thanks!

Stop Lying About Your Distance - It's Pissing Me Off (Rant Thread)
PerfectStriking replied to AltGolfer's topic in Golf Talk
Hi Cantankerish, I went to try a new M6 3 wood today on the monitor in the store bay where I really feel uncomfortable hitting it but had no choice, interesting thing is my club head speed was greatly improved from a week ago, I've changed my swing to lag more and I was doing 98-103 MPH for the 3 Wood when I couldn't get above 99 MPH with my M2 Driver or a new M6 Driver I was trying it against the week before. The most interesting thing though was my spin rate which blew around everywhere from 3100 to 4500. This kind of difference showed a huge difference in distance with a 99 MPH swing at 3100 going the furthest of all the shots, much better than a lot of the 100+ MPH swings. I now know that the next part of my improvement is trying to get spin rate as close to 3000 as possible on a 3 Wood and under 3000 on a Driver. I bought the 3 Wood this week but, not the Driver last week, maybe a few more weeks of swing improvement will get me to buy the Driver? -
What does Club Head Lag really mean to you?
PerfectStriking replied to PerfectStriking's topic in Golf Talk
It's interesting though I'm still to see a "rule" that says exactly where the trail hand should straighten and loss of wrist angle should happen. I think it's not really a rule IMHO as to when you should lose the angle as long as it's later, taking a look at this super slow mo of Jason Day can clearly see he starts to lose wrist angle and the club head starts coming through from about or even before half way down where the club is parallel to the ground. I.e. his angle between his club and his body is clearly getting bigger from at or before half way down his swing but, it's obvious his hands are in front of the ball when he hits it. Now obviously, I'm not saying Jason Day is releasing early and it would be impossible to hit to the ball if angle was maintained 100% all the way into impact, so there has to be a "good enough" maintenance of angle for "long enough". I'd say as long as long as your angle is maintained to somewhere near mid way down that has to be "long enough" or we'd all be saying Jason Day is releasing early right? So in my video of me that's what I'll be looking for, just my thoughts on it 😣 -

Thanks Vinsk, great idea I will get a video of myself, I'm sure I was casting before, now I'm pretty sure I'm not (well not so bad) so I will video myself with my 7/8/9 irons to see. -

PerfectStriking replied to PerfectStriking's topic in Golf Talk
Hi chspeed, I now think it is just a lot to do with dropping your hands at the top, I've got this working really good in the last few days, the other part I've found to it is after letting my hands / club head drop from the top I just pull the handle through inside the line of the ball once the hands and club head have dropped somewhere near to the bottom and feel the lag / power and whip, it's working great for me, nearly perfectly consistent and accurate especially with everything other than the driver which is also greatly improved, long fairway shots have become a dream. -
Totally agree re 6I, the problem with the 5I for me is it is just not anywhere's near as reliable as I often lose it of the face or just miss it altogether because it is that little bit longer and flatter. The 6I is the first club in the bag for me that has enough angle and isn't too long, so as I want to keep it as flat as possible and have as much distance choice as possible in a 100% reliable club it's the one for me too, great to have this confirmed as not being a dumb choice!

PerfectStriking replied to PerfectStriking's topic in Golf Talk
Oh yeah thanks Erik that makes sense, I suppose it comes down to judgement for what amount of transfer works for each? I seem to be able to get away with a huge amount of weight transfer to the front foot for short irons but, for the driver I can't transfer anywhere's near as much without messing up. -

PerfectStriking replied to PerfectStriking's topic in Golf Talk
Actually, I have found that the longer the club the less appropriate it might be to get the weight forward, I suppose for the driver as it is teed up and at the front of the stance it makes sense it is almost impossible to make getting weight forward in front of the ball work? -

PerfectStriking replied to PerfectStriking's topic in Golf Talk
One thing I have found is that getting weight forward and pulling on a drive is impossible whereas getting it forward and pulling on short irons is easy and hits it solid and other ground shots is ok
