imaginary caddy ftw. *take a few practice swings* I-caddy: "I think you better use the 9." Me: "Yep youre right, lets do it." *hits a nice shot and high fives i-caddy*

that sucks man. I wear headphones most of the time when I'm at the range to just practice by myself so no one can get to me. It would be like in Happy Gilmore where the guy yells jackass every time you go to swing, its just annoying and fools with your mental game. I guess it got to you especially because you haven't re-grooved your swing. Just get out there again with an iPod and rock out while you hit.

Great write up and responses, I really enjoyed it!

Should I hit my driver or hybrid off the tee?
Supermanwoot replied to DaSportsGuy's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I've been fighting this as well. I say go hyrbid. If you can hit it 200yds straight then you'll be on or close to any par 5 in 3, and par 4s in 2. In the mean time, work on your driver at the range or if there is a huge fairway or a dogleg right on the course. I play the sumo hybrids as well, they are amazing. I can usually hit my 3-wood OK off the tee but honestly its about 50% like my driver so if it doesnt feel right, there is no shame in hitting the hybrid. -
Umm I'm currently suffering from some type of injury, hurts just to the left of my spine but to the right of my shoulder blade and hurts when I take a deep breath. I figure i'll go in for X-rays and CT scan if it continues past 2 weeks but I'll take it easy until then. I cant even swing a club at this point as the torque during the downswing just takes me down. I can putt just fine and barely chip/pitch but that even hurts. I've only been off the course for a couple days since I tried to play in pain the other day and that was the turning point that really put me out of it.

How to teach a total newbie?
Supermanwoot replied to Supermanwoot's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Well today we both went to the country club. I'm injured so couldn't hit balls but we putted around for about an hour and a half then hit the chipping green. On both we played stroke score to holes. He beat me in putting but I won out in chipping/then putting. He just wants to break the wrists through the ball so badly and ends up skulling balls off the green. Overall pretty good though, got to work around the green in the small game and we had a pro come out watching us from the clubhouse show us a few different shots to try around the green like the flop, chip, and pitch. I usually prefer the pitch myself. Its just amazing how most of your strokes during play are going to come from the shots where you're closest to the hole... -
The range I go to they basically just leave you alone but I dont mind that much. I got a member key so I don't have to go into the pro-shop. If I do enter the clubhouse, there is this one guy there who I swear they need to fire immediately. He has zero personality, doesnt say hi, just walks up to the counter and looks at you until you say what you want. The only thing he has ever said to me is the price of whatever I'm getting (and he mumbles that, at best). Then I say "thanks, have a nice day" and get no response. He makes a really bad image for the club. Sorry just wanted to vent. My club has 2 driving ranges. One has a bunch of nice targets, bunker, and chipping/putting green. The other has limited targets, bunker, and the chipping and putting green is way far away. Still, their price is reasonable for a bucket and hitting off actual grass is nice although its always different than the course's fairway.

I'm on the 15-day DL with an inflamed handicap so all I can do now is putt around. I was putting into a cup last night at various distances and I definitely was improving throughout the night. Distance control was better for sure. If you want the real deal take your lawnmower out back and set it to the lowest setting and make a little "green" area and even dig out some holes and maybe even place some cups in them. Or you can just put flags (which can be basically anything that sticks in the ground) and put to them.

A really good friend of mine has been picking up golf lately, but he has always played baseball and has never gotten a formal lesson in golf. Now, I'm not saying I want to give him a formal lesson or anything, but I'd like to get him striking the ball. Its not cool to see him on the tee. On our first hole he hit 4 shots before I hit my 2nd and then another shot before the other guy in our 3some hit his 2nd. He comes down with the club and hits the top of the ball because he tries to hit it like its out in front of him like you would in baseball. Now I always played baseball too, but I was a pitcher so I never really hit much and I switched to golf a couple years back. I know one thing I was bad at was keeping that left arm straight but now it comes pretty naturally. I'd like to take him to the range this week (possibly tomorrow or friday) and get some time in getting him hitting the ball in the right direction, UPWARD AND FORWARD. I'm not a PGA instructor, nor do I plan to be, I'd just like to get this guy the basics because I enjoy playing with him and I know I'm not good but he is really competitive and feels bad when he cant compete. I was thinking the first thing we should do is try to just get his arm straightened out and without a ball have him take divots slightly behind the center of his stance. Does that sound good and if so how long should that go on? Please give me some feedback. I'm sure this would help me as well getting back to the basics in a lot of respects.

I just tried to play a round today and was in EXCRUCIATING pain in my left middle back. It feels extremely tight and it has been since saturday when I played. I figured taking a break would have helped but apparently it wasn't long enough. I just started to play all the time, being out for the season would crush me but it looks like thats where I'm headed I could even take a backswing without cringing in pain today. Oh and one way of loosening it up is getting an Rx for muscle relaxers. I'll have to grab some flexeril tomorrow and see how they treat me but this sucks...

I like the idea of the "pot" of upfront money everyone puts in then whoever gets the skins divides it up as outright winners no carry overs. Thats a new one. The carry over could mean that if we tie every hole, but then someone eagles #18 then they win it all lol, I guess the pot idea would mean the same thing now that I think about it, except the pot idea wouldn't make such a big deal if someone won ONE hole that had 6 carry overs, then everyone else won a hole, that one guy would get a lot bigger cut even though he won 1 so the pot idea makes better sense except the carry over idea adds more suspense. Its a toss up, I guess we'll vote.

I've been playing skins matches (much like match play) with one other person but tomorrow we got a foursome together and were going to play $1 per hole skins. How would you work it if say 3 people tie a hole or any other situation when more than 1 person has the best score, would you just split the 4th players dollar or would no one win? Thanks and sorry if this is a noob question

I went through 2 FJ sci flexes in 4 rounds, then switched to the nike and its still holding up after 7 rounds. I wont buy FJ again.

Its not what you think it is. A lot of my friends were in the PGM - Professional Golf Management program at the university I go to and out of maybe 200+ starting people, only 7-10 stayed in to graduate since they just don't like the job in the end. I cant say any more since thats all I know, they all changed to business degrees but with the job market the way it is, thats not much of a help.

Bagboy Revolver.... anyone got one?
Supermanwoot replied to erikpmort's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
looks pretty gimmicky but I know bag boy makes nice bags for the most part. Also it would be ridiculous to carry that most likely. -
also how expensive are they? I was contemplating these until the pro at my course gave me a free 15 min lesson and some hw to practice this week. Might still need them though if I cant straighten out my sasquatch.
-
Yeah me too, I'm gonna run through a couple buckets at the range though and see how I do. She also said I was swinging too much with my arms/hands (as in tensing them up) and that the looser right hand grip would get me swinging with my body more so I'll give it a shot at least.

why do people think that golf is easy and not a sport?

what exactly happened? hit a tree, house, cart path? Or is it just a grass mark or from a wedge? Personally I'd still use it, just try to clean it off in a ball cleaner because I'm sure it would still play just fine. Hell I had a birdie today with the oldest, crappiest maxfli I'd ever seen and I dont get many birdies.

mine interlock as well and I know thats how tiger woods plays. The pro asking me to switch to overlapping seems like a conflict of interest and it feels a little weird but if it helps my driving I will be elated. Lots of range time this week!

I just had a golf pro telling me I was gripping my club wrong and to maybe fix that if I want to hit the driver straight. I hit all of my clubs really well (straight and long) EXCEPT my driver. Its so frustrating that I almost just feel like taking 3-iron off every tee since I can hit that consistently 200+yds straight. I always used the interlocking pinky/index finger grip but the woman pro at my course told me to try out the "overlapping" grip for better driver-slice control. I guess I should've asked her if I should use that grip for just my driver since I'm fairly comfortable with my other clubs, except I didnt get to hit very many balls since my back/chest is absolutely killing me. Anybody try this overlapping grip? I'm going to try to get some range time in with it this week and see how I do before hitting the course but I'm trying anything to hit more fairways.

why do people think that golf is easy and not a sport?
Supermanwoot replied to sasquatcho69's topic in Golf Talk
golf easy? wtf. Anyone who has played a round on a course knows better than to say that. Sure you might be able to hit the ball in the forward direction on a driving range, but that is NOT golf. If you ever hear anyone say that, tell them to put their money where their mouth is and play skins with you. If they really are good, then they were just BSing because they knew all the practice it took to get that way, but chances are if you say golf is easy then you've never been out to anything but a chip-n-putt. On a side note: I like playing skins ($1 a hole) with my partners who usually shoot in the 80s while I'm in the 90s. I find that I can usually break even in a skins match because my stroke score is usually trashed on just a couple holes so skins is a good way to get a newer player into competitive play.
