After a bit of a lean spell managed to birdie stroke hole one, long par five. Ball striking best it’s been for a while short game exactly the opposite. Had so many opportunities to post good scores last three or four games, failed miserably😀

Welcome from a fellow countryman, Been in Wellington almost 50 years .

I missed one too, it used to be a fairly short par five, you then walked 80 or 90 yards to the right and slightly back to play a shortish par three ,which was guarded by two huge trees left and right. That green is now the par five, so if you hit two really nice shots up the middle of the fairway, the tree on the left blocks out approximately 3/4 of the Green ideally, you want your second shot to be on the right hand side of the fairway, but there is a huge tree about 400 yards out which hangs over the right hand side so you have to hit it up the middle with a fade Anyway, managed to knock off another hole today.

Are we having a 2025 version? Only asking as I have three up my sleeve so far 😀

Not nearly as often as I used to. Since I changed to Pure grips, they hardly ever seem to need cleaning nearly always grippy With my previous grips It was always very noticeable after you had cleaned them, not so much now.

Congrats,👍 I’ve been close a few times this year!

I just recently bought two pairs of True, originals 1.2 and a lightweight pair which will have to wait until after Winter. Very comfortable, but they leaked at the hells, unusual design almost like they have a slipper inside at the back with a waterproof membrane. The leaked outside of the membrane, but it eventually crept up into the shoe. I’ve had them replaced, but I haven’t really had a chance to test them yet

All weather, never gets that cold you can’t play here, although being mostly retired, we’d skip heavy rain and play the following nice day. Spring and autumn are my favourite times to play, Winter finds you out if you’re not striking them cleanly Summer too dry & too hard.

After not managing to birdie it over the summer when we had all the run, birdied the long par 5 14th last week in midwinter . Only the other long par 5 12th to go, Could be waiting awhile 😀 You have to keep your second shot left of the trees on the right at the dip. From the middle of the fairway, the big trees on the left of the green block about 70% of it , they are tall, I can clear them with a wedge ,but can’t get that close at this time of the year. This green was originally a par three to the right of the fairway . The original Green was just 100 yards past the dip , you then walked about 70 yards to the right to the tee and you could fire right through the gap to the par 3. No longer the case as most of it is behind the trees

What Is the Best Way to Practice Alignment?
Sammydreep replied to saevel25's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
@Phillyk “When it comes to set up routine in regards to alignment, I generally prefer my students to: 1) clubface, 2) chest and 3) feet. When the foot alignment happens before chest alignment, we tend to have issues. “ Thanks for your input, I never really checked my shoulder/ chest alignment closely. I’ve tried it the last couple of rounds and it was nearly always aiming way right. Today I experimented a bit and walked into a shot, mainly checking shoulder alignment, and setting feet to match. Felt much more comfortable & I had good results, Still a work in progress. -

Unfortunately, I don’t have an answer for you, but hopefully someone else does as I have more or less the same issue. I try and pick out a divot or something a few feet in front of the ball where I want to aim and try and lineup my body to that. When I check it, I ‘m nearly always aiming 20 to 30° to the right with my feet. I have tried stepping in with my right foot, and trying to draw my left a little behind me, but often it doesn’t feel right and feels like I’ll Duckhook it, which sometimes happens. The odd thing is occasionally I’ll go out and practice a few holes after eighteen, lay a club down where I think my feet should aim and it feels totally natural, but I can’t seem to do it when I play. I’ve ruined more than a few good rounds, by hitting it straight in the trees especially on 14 and 16 both doglegs right. -
Give it time. if Hatton misses another shot he might launch his club & hit someone .

Snap @ Tour Spoon! Birdied 11 yesterday. Hit a poor iron ,stopped on edge of bunker , pitch with my lob wedge landed about 6’ away and went in. Only 12 & 14 to go, long par5’s into the prevailing wind. Might be waiting a while although I did have about 15’ on 12 after the birdie on 11, didn’t miss by much.

At What Distance do Your Pull Our Your Range Finder?
Sammydreep replied to TapOut64's topic in Golf Talk
I have one still sitting in a box my son gave me for Christmas. For a while, I used an app on my watch, but it drained the phone battery . We have Markers at 180 ,135 and 90M , and generally I am close enough to one of them to get a fairly rough indication of how far. Also, for a while now ,I walk into town and back at weekends, approximately 5 mile round-trip . I’ll start a walk on my watch, and on the way home when the watch ticks over to .10/.90 etc I’ll pick a street light ,lamp post , sign , and guess how far, normally anything up to about 100 m, I have now got very good at estimating distances, especially up to 50 or 60M. -
Birdied No 7, auto correct :-))

Are you a Better Golfer than a Year Ago?
Sammydreep replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yes, slightly. Hitting driver and three wood much better, generally straight or a slight draw, Especially since I upgraded from ping G 410 to G 430. Both clubs have 2degrees more loft. That together with a slight swing change, improved technology ,definitely getting more distance. On the downside not hitting my ions as well as normal, pitching definitely improving, especially for someone who got to a four handicap 30 years ago and couldn’t pitch . Chipping a bit up and down, pardon the pun, that was definitely one of the reasons I got to that handicap when I played many moons ago, ( I stopped playing for 20 years), better short putter than I was before Had quite a few opportunities to shoot my age, 73, mostly didn’t chip as well as I could when I had the chance. -
Finally, birthday number seven, just short in two & pitched to about 5 feet. front nine all done! Also, got a lucky eagle on three, caught a nine iron a smidge fat, never left the pin landed short and rolled in the hole
-
Knocked another one off, one of our harder par 4’s , dogleg with undulating fairway. All of the holes on the back nine are similar as it’s an old riverbed. Only one to go on the front nine , oddly enough, the one I would probably birdie the most, the only par five with the prevailing wind helping . Our four par fives are 530 to 550 yards from the front tees. We still have a reasonable amount of summer run, and despite being on the upslope of the green in two twice last week it still eludes me.

Managed to birdie 18 yesterday. The green is like a bowl, was about 20 feet away pin high . My mate was on the opposite side in the rough and chipped his too hard and landed directly behind mine almost touching. Give me a nice read , not many straight putts on that green .
-
Nice to get stroke hole three out of the way, our longest par four off the whites at 420 yards, with a burn( stream) just shot of the green. Hit a nice seven iron to 5/6 feet & made a nice putt.

I replied to this earlier, but it seems to have disappeared. Thanks for your replies folks, I would say you’ve confirmed what I suspected . I’ve just swapped shafts from the old club at the moment, what a mission to get the shaft out of the head. The G 410 was a 14°, the G430 a 16° . I am hitting it way higher than I thought with a 2° difference , and I’ve had to tee it right down. The bonus is, I appear to be hitting it a little bit further ;-)

I am more asking, is there any significant advantage to me buying an expensive shaft?
