  1. I'm 22 days and 6 hours away from playing the Cradle. Therefore I'm going with the Par 3 course!
  2. I learned to play golf by going to the course with my father when I was a little boy. I thought being around the course and club were the greatest things ever as a 6 or 8 year old. When I got to the age of 10 I received my first membership to the local 9 hole muni where all the kids in town congregated every day in the summer. Many of the friendships I made in my youth are still with me today at age 60. I'd like to say that it was one great shot that kept bringing me back but it is and will always be the spirit of golf.
  3. Pinehurst is as fine a golf facility as anywhere. The practice tee is great along with multiple chipping and sand greens. Spend some time on the Thistle Dhu putting green it will certainly warm you up for the greens on both courses. I have been there three times on vacations and my son 4 times in the last 3 years (2 on vacations and 2 with the college team, 21 years old and he has already played all the Pinehurst courses). I am normally a good chipper and short game player (4.7 index) and that has been my downfall playing the Pinehurst courses. Also GolfLug, Yukari and bkuehn1952 are correct, when playing your practice rounds notice where the green complexes move so that you can hit your approaches to the correct spot for the best birdie chances. Good luck and you are going to love it there.
  4. My son and I went to St. Andrew's in July 2017 for 8 days. We played New, Jubilee, Eden and Castle and Duke's along with the Old Course after getting up at 4AM and standing in line for the lottery. We were 25th and 26th in the Old Course lottery which I remember well and we didn't get a tee time until around 4:30 in the afternoon. This I also remember because I sent an email to the people I work with and had them go on the St. Andrews Links Webcam to watch us on the first tee. Also we were paired with a father and son who lived 2 hours south of our home and we actually had a mutual friend which was great. But back to the issue of the golf bag. My son carried his school bag for all 7 rounds we played and I used a push cart (trolley) at all the courses with my hoofer bag. Our foursome had a forecaddie at the Old Course because as we teed off so late in the day all the caddies were either on the course or finished looping for the day and went home. So what we found was having the smaller bag was better for the golf but not as safe for the shipping. Get a good sturdy airline travel bag and you will be OK.
  5. Good luck with the therapy. I had a knee replacement 15 days ago and have done everything the Dr. said. Ice, constant elevation and exercise three times per day and I feel great so far. They told me I could probably chip and putt in a couple months and hit balls by May or so. I've had scopes done on each knee previously and if you follow the program you should be OK. Plenty of time to watch the Golf Channel!
  6. I would rather be the passenger. That way you can walk when you want, don't get in trouble for taking the cart into the wrong spot and it's easier to grab a beer when you need one.
  7. I've been Playing Golf for: 49 Years My current handicap index or average score is: 4.6 My typical ball flight is: Straight The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Low left hook or high right flare with the driver. Haven't been able to hit a driver with any consistency since August 2001. Videos:
  8. Thanks for the info on the surgery. The surgeon I have will be using the kinematic surgery method so I will be on my back for 3 weeks, 22 hours per day with exercises to do but no therapy. A lot of time to watch the golf channel. They told me I will probably be able to start hitting half shots and wedges within 7 to 11 weeks so then I will start my 5 minutes a day program.
  9. Hello everybody, new member from Erie, PA. Beautiful day here, at least a foot of snow, but still thinking about my game. Currently a 4.7 index, been hovering in that area for the last few years. I have been playing for 50 years and like everyone I would like to go back to my better days, or to quote Lee Trevino "The older I get the better I was". Unfortunately I work a 9-5 job and have two kids who have both played too may sports for the last 15 years so my playing and practicing have always been at a premium. Also, I like going to the range more than playing anyway. Having a full left knee replacement in January so maybe that will help my game. If it goes well the right one is getting done next winter. If anyone has thoughts on rehab let me know.
