  1. The FT iz is their game improvement model -- more forgiving, but less workable than the FT Tour.
  2. You should consider the fact that any fairway wood will have a longer shaft than a hybrid with the same loft, so something like a 17 degree 4-wood may actually be better than a 3-wood (really depends on how well you hit your hybrid). The same analysis applies when looking at the gaps between your hybrids and irons (hybrids will have longer shafts).
  3. I would go to a store and try both out since they have very different feel. You may also want to consider the Odyssey White Hot Tour Series, which feels very much like the black i series (firmer insert than the XG), but costs much less. I'm a big fan of my #9 -- I can really tell where on the face I struck the ball. Odyssey claims that the insert helps on mishits because it has the effect of moving weight towards the perimeter ... but who really knows.
  4. I would look at used sets on callaway pre-owned (they also sell other brands), ebay (best to stick to the top-rated sellers), or other reputable sites and get a set of used cavity-backs after reading some reviews (just google the model) to get an understanding as to who the clubs are designed for. You will be able to find a decent set for a good price. In terms of fitting, I'm not sure how helpful fitting would be at this point because your swing is probably inconsistent, but if you are significantly above or below "average height" (~ 5'10''), you may want buy a set with more upright lie angles (if you are taller) or flatter angles (if you are shorter). Golfsmith and Ping each have links on their sites where you can estimate your optimal lie angle based on your height and/or arm to floor distance (Ping will give you a "color dot" which stands for a lie angle). This won't be perfect, but it should be better than nothing.
  5. That is an interesting article. I wonder if the difference could be due to ball flight. I would think that the cavity back would have a higher trajectory, which would bring the wind into play. I also wonder if the two models tested had the same shaft. Obviously, shaft flex and kick point would also affect the results.
  6. Phil has no chance of winning a slander suit. Nobody misstated anything factual about him. They just said that he used the Ping wedge (which he did), and they feel like he is a cheater because of it. No misstatement of fact here.
  7. I would probably try them. Nothing more frustrating than not being able to find a ball that you know is in-bounds
  8. I recently switched from Callaway X-20s to Mizuno MX-25s. The X-20s are a few yards longer, but the lofts are stronger. I find that I'm more accurate and consistent with the MX-25s.
  9. How would new/different grips affect your optimal lie angle and length?
  10. At my local Golfsmith, they don't seem to care if I just walk into the launch area and hit some of their demo clubs. If you show up when they aren't busy, and don't spend too long in there, I don't think it will be problem (this may vary from store to store).
  11. I'm also a big fan of the Odyssey White Hot Tour series. However, if the original poster currently has a black i series (with the insert, as opposed to the black series without the insert), then the tour version may not help. Based on what I have read, the tour version has the same insert as the black i series.
  12. The main differences are less offset and smaller heads on the tours. I would try both out and see which one you like better.
  13. I think you made a good choice, considering your criteria. I recently switched from Callaway X-20's to mx-25's. The X-20's definitely hit the ball farther, but I just couldn't get over the clunky, round look of the X-20's, especially in the short irons (which for some reason are clunkier than the long irons in the set). The X-20 PW looks like a shovel, which makes it difficult to use for pitching and chipping.
  14. Try washing them with warm water and soap. This should help a little.
  15. Too cold to play now but shot 47 (nine holes) last time out.
  16. Sunk a forty-foot putt with a double-break to win 2 skins.
  17. Nobody has ever dominated the sport like Tiger.
  18. Corporate lawyer in NYC. Lots of hours in the office = fewer hours on the course.
