What I suggest to alot of new players is to work from the green out. Before you hit the range go to the green with someone that really can putt well and learn from him, learn how to read it learn the stroke learn how to lag... Once your comfortable on the green start learning chipping, learn how to control your release learn how to get the ball to check up. Once your comfortable with that go to the range and get extremely comfortable with your 10,25,50,75 yard pitch shots until you can make them without thinking. Then get a pro show you how to swing your irons properly and then figure out the rest. Thats how I learned to play and on my golf team I am by far the shortest hitter, I carry 220 with my driver but I almost never miss a fairway. My iron play is average for my skill level but give me a ball 120 yards and in and I will show you some magic. I am also very good (hell of alot better than last year) on the greens. So even if there are guys on my team that can hit a drive 320 I still beat them most of the time.

I use Pro V1s and its just like their slogan says "trust your golf ball". Yes A ProV1 and similar high end balls (tour i, z star, penta) spin alot of the driver which means they will spin alot left and right if you slice so if you have trouble with your driver they might not be the balls for you but I would never play with anything else. I want that confidence of aiming dead at the stick on my 100 yard shot knowing that if I hit it right and on target that ball will go where I need it, I don't get that with mid and low end balls.

I played 18 today. On one of the par 4s I over faded my drive into some trees on the right. When I got to my ball it was in some chewy rought with a tree infront of me about 10 feet directly in my line of sight to the flag. I was 150 yds away and I hit a cut 4 iron to three feet for birdie.

I bought another scotty because the one I have now is extremely rusted (I was a bit embarrassed). I tried putters for like three hours and bought a different studio select. Played two rounds and just didn't feel right on the green, just felt odd... sold the putter (for more than I bought it ;) ) and I am still playing with my rust bucket.

I would really suggest not to get the AP1s and go with AP2s, they are almost as forgiving but they are much easier to work with. They are an investment for sure but they are clubs you can keep to the end of time.

I work at a golf course (in the afternoons) and I have the first tee time of every morning that I work so that there isn't anybody ahead of me, I tend to set off (walking with a push cart) around 5:55 and get back at 8:30 so about the same speed as Iacas.

My dad past on his (now mine) 1990 Porsche 944 S2. Biggest 4 cylinder engine in 1990, with Koni adjustables and Yokohama S racing tires, I do a little track racing with it and yes I can fit my bag and my pushcart in the trunk.

Trust me most of your problems were with golf smith not titleist. I deal with titleist directly and they are extremely well organized and usually tell me when I order if they are out of this shaft or that grip. With that aside congratulations on buying the best iron set in golf (I am biased, but we all are) have fun in Myrtle.

Do you have a "plan" and/or practice "journal"?
Gebus replied to rebby's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have a little notebook that I keep with me at all times, it has all the greens and all the puts on the courses I play, The last page has my yardages which I update constantly, and here and there are swing thoughts, things to practice, a girl's number or two (you never know who you meet on the course), good shots (and why they were good shots), bad shots (and why), notes on competitors when I play in tournaments(stuff like strengths and weaknesses) etc. -
Its cool that a few things you read here have helped you, that's what were here for. A couple things you should think about though: All the tips in the world added together make a horrible golf swing your best bet is to take a few lessons with a pro to help shake the rust off and make sure your swing isn't horrific. Second your equipment might not be right for you anymore, might be a good idea to invest in some new equipment (fitted of course)

What Are Your Thoughts - have u gamed these?
Gebus replied to enis750's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I know I am adding a set that isn't on the list but have you tried AP2s, they aren't blades but they definitely aren't shovels. I tried the 710 MBs and the 710 CBs and though they are a little softer I really didn't feel that much of a difference and the AP2s are a lot more forgiving on an off center hit. -
It really really depends on your swing. If you are some one that doesn't load up through impact consistently a low kick shaft will kick you in the ass because on a good swing you'll launch it normal on a bad swing it could go all over the place. If you have a higher kick point shaft with a higher lofted driver, even if your swing is not loaded exactly the same it should still launch at around the same angle. One note though a driver with a bit more loft you'll get more spin, which if you have too much kills your distance and makes slices and hooks a little more pronounced.

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
Gebus replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Bought 1 more glove FJ (sof-joy) hopefully it will last until the rest of my titleist order comes in Bought the Frogger brush pro, its big and ugly bit it really, really, really works well. Almost bought a funny headcover for my driver but cooler heads prevailed -
You actually have two slots, it says your playing the sand wedge that came with your burner set and a Cleveland 56* wedge you should probably take the burner sand wedge out because its is basically the same as the Cleveland but worst . My suggestion time to get a 52* and 60* wedge to complete the set with the proper bounces of course. Its all well and nice to be able to hit a hybrid on the fairways but you need the tools around the green as much if not more

Anyone have Puma shoes with those "quill" cleats?
Gebus replied to chriskzoo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I tried these shoes at the end of last season (forgot mine and a buddy had an extra pair, he likes to be color coordinated) I can't really say much about how they hold-up but I've never heard a complaint from my friend (and he complains about everything so its a good sign). One thing I will say is they are not as stable as my FJs I find that my front (left) font tends to lift through my follow through as opposed to my FJs which can withstand the force I am putting on it. I will admit they were very comfortable and they were not even broken in to my feet, they are also very light. -
My friends and I have a darts style 201 game we play. We set the score we wish to attain say 5000 and just like darts you have to get to 5000 but you use the yardages you hit. The rules: Set the limit 5000 is good if you all hit the driver around 250 Set the left and right limits for each shot (the tighter the better, any shot outside the lines gets a 0) You have to hit every club in the bag (other than the putter, I know you were thinking it) in rotation for example if you hit driver on your first ball you cant hit driver again until your 14th shoot. If you have target greens on your golf course you can call a shoot to the target green and if it lands (first bounce since range balls rarely stop) on it you get 3X that distance added to your score, if you miss the green you get 0 You must finish with exactly 5000 (with in measurable proximity), so if you have 120 and have to hit driver... good luck. If a player goes over 5000 3X his last shot is subtracted from the score. The thing I really like about this game is that it really forces accuracy, we usually give ourselves 30 yds left to right to work with so you really have to make each shot count. It also places a lot of pressure on long shots games usually finish within 500 points so two missed drives could mean a loss... Tips for playing: If you know your going to play pack a little notepad and pen and even a calculator for the arithmetically impaired. For keeping track of which clubs you've used when you use a club don't put it back in the bag just lean them against the bag and when your done the rotation put them back in. I would hazard a guess (its a real shot in the dark) that the point limit should be reduced by about 200 points per stroke-difference in handicap between players.

I am lucky to have a friend that works at a premium golf course in Montreal called the Mirage (it is owned by Celine Dion), their range is on beautiful grass and is lined with pyramids of PRO V1s, I know what your thinking they must get screwed up pretty fast but there are also NXT tours if your are practicing full wedge shots. I usually have a practice session their at the start of the season with my range finder to record my yardages with all my clubs. Most of the driving ranges around Montreal use horrifically used balls and charge $9 for a basket, thank god I work for a golf course that lets me hot all the balls I want and they are relatively new (1-2 seasons).

The major driving ranges around the Montreal Area opened this weekend, I spent 6 hours practicing today and it was 32*F and snowing but I'm Canadian so it was great, I realized that fluffy snow is a great visual aid for wind.

What driver degree with a Fujikura 757?
Gebus replied to macman756's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I dont mean to confuse the matter but a lower torque shaft does not necessarily mean a lower ball flight. Shaft torque is something that should be matched with your club head speed not desired ball flight. If your club head speed is 105 mph I would definitely suggest a low torque shaft maybe not that low but I dont think you'll have a problem with it. It general the slower the swing speed the more torque you want to allow, If a low swing speed player plays with a shaft that has too much torque he'll tend to hit alot of shots right, where as a high torque shaft for a person with higher swing speeds (like when I tried the stock shaft on the Cobra ZL its like a 4.8) will tend to pull shots left. Whats more important to ball flight is kick-point, if you want a lower ball flight you want a higher kick point, higher ball flight-lower kick point. For the head its tough to tell you want the combo that gives you that perfect 3600 rpm 12-15* flight so without actually testing its a shot in the dark... -
It isn't easy, first you do it inside the squat cage like machine so if you start falling you have something to grab onto It took a week or two before I could even stay balanced on the ball for longer than 5 seconds, Once you can stay balanced the squat isn't that much harder. To make it worst the coach wants me to do it with a 45 lb bar next week...

510TP replacement: R9 Superdeep March 30
Gebus replied to erwintrace08's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think Talyormade keep their CAD drawers on a strict diet of redbull and fruit loops thats why they can puch out a new driver every 28.7 seconds -
Through my university team I am sponsored by Titleist (as you can see from my bag) so I get Pro V1s at great prices and they are the best ball ever(period). But even at a discount they are expensive and I like to carry loseable (new word and I like it) balls in my bag and though I can get NXTs for almost nothing I pay retail and get TF Gamers. I probably shouldn't say this but NXTs dont even compare to Gamers. I would argue that I get almost 80% of the spin of my Pro V1 and they are magically durable for such a soft ball. I've been known to ruin Pro V1s with one or two wedge shots where as I can hit a gamer 5 or 6 times with a wedge with no damage. My suggestion to you is to play Pro V1s because they are the balls you will score the best with but if you cant afford to lose them go with gamers for sure.

It all depends on your gym program... I am lucky because the Coach of my university golf team also has a masters in kinesiology (which is a fancy way of saying he is a master personal trainer) and he makes our gym programs. Golf is all about stability and resistance training not really about lifting weights. Some examples of excercises I do at the gym Squats while balancing on a swiss ball (or yoga ball) Lunges with a squat bar on your shoulders front foot on a bosu ball and turn both ways at extension Push up position with feet on a swiss ball and bring your knees into your chest Push up position with hands on upside down bosu and try to stay stable as long as possible with abs clenched etc. I am not gaining alot of muscle mass but I am becoming much more stable and staying extremely limber. Dont forget to supplement properly.

Give me your advice or opinion on my hybrid/iron setup...
Gebus replied to Zack's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Its all about distance gaps. Go to the range and hit ten balls with each club and the gaps between them should be pretty close to even. I absolutely love my hybrid but cant even imagine having more than one in my bag, I hit around 210 (carry) with my hybrid but manage only 180 with my 4 iron (I am not a super power player), that yardage gap is horrible but I manage by take a little of my swing. I understand not being great at hitting your long irons but you still need to work on your ball striking. Hybrids are very forgiving and can get you out of trouble but they don't practice your shot making. By your signature you don't have any fairway woods, may I suggest selling your 4 hybrid taking the three iron out of your bag and putting in a nice 3 or 4 wood nothing spectacular find and old taylormade Vsteel. BTW your bag is illegal at the moment, don't forget its 14 clubs including the putter.
