Hmmm... My "regular" 6-iron swing gets me about 180 yards.

I wear Oakley "Half Jackets" everywhere... They really help sharpen things when I'm playing.

I'm waiting for the Champions Tour. I figure I've got ten + years to practice!!

great in mats(driving range), poor in course...why?
Mikeland replied to Manu's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
How about those new synthetic turf mats? I've hit off them, and there are much better - they allow you to hit "down" on the ball... Granted, it's not grass, but when grass isn't an option (ie. when it's 20 degrees out)...beats swingin at air in the basement!!! -
We play for money only on the par 3s - $5 per person on each par 3, closest to the hole (on the green) and you gotta make par...no ties, if no par, or noone hits the green, then we carryover... There've been a couple of rounds when I've walked away with $60.00!!!

When is the golf channel going to get with it and start broadcasting in HD?? I've got HD...and a 55" Sony to watch it on...but watching golf in standard format is terrible...on a screen that size...I'd rather watch it on my 32" CRT!!! C'mon Golf Channel!!!!

Swing Speed: Do You Have One or Several???
Mikeland replied to RX Phoenix's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I really only have one swing speed - fast. However, I think my "fast" swing is mostly due to the transition, or lack thereof I should say. I don't really "pause" at the top of my swing...it's backswing-downswing. If I paused at the top, then I'd probably look "normal", although I do go at the ball pretty hard... If I try to slow down my swing speed, or pause at the top, I find I hit those shots fat. I use a shorter swing to manage "in-between" yardages rather than slowing my swing down. It just seems to work best for me. -
Anyone using a YES! putter? I was messing around with the Marilyn model this weekend...I like the look and feel and they way the ball rolled...but it was on a indoor surface... I'm using an Odyssey two-ball putter right now...not that I don't like it, but it's center-shafted and I think I'm pulling too many putts with that shaft...

Plastic or Wood Tees? Something Else?
Mikeland replied to PutterHead's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm so anal...I can only use natural color wood tees. I get freaked out if I use a white or any other color tee...take about superstitious!! And never mind that I've got just about a lifetime supply of wood tees...I'm a little "greedy" when I play those high-end courses that give you tees....hee, hee. On the par 3's I sometimes "bump" up a bit of dirt to use as a tee...instead of searching for broken tees, or using a new tee. I saw Lee Trevino and other seniors do it a couple of times at Nashawtuc...and I'm sure it harkens back to the old days of dirt tees... -
Why not get a SnapServer? Get one that's LAN capable (as opposed to USB, or firewire) that way you can just plug it into your wireless router. As for sharing the printer, if it's got a network card, just plug it into the wireless router as well. Feel free to PM me for detailed instructions. Oh, I'm a PC guy, and not that savvy on the MAC side.

Eliminate the double-bogeys : got it down to one or two per round, but that's just not good enough. Concentrate more : too many times this year I've lost it on the back 9. I need to commit to shots, let go of bad shots, and focus. Learn to putt : I got a great tip in while in Florida earlier this month (thanks Eric) and hope it will carry over to next year's stats. Play some tournament golf : I've never played a competitive round, and would like to try it out.

I just got back from 3 days in Orlando...Day 1 - golf, Day 2 - golf, Day 3 - golf...WOOHOO!! Although it was a bit brisk the first two days (45 in the mornings...WHOA!!!), the golf was phenomenal. I play 5 rounds (all my rounds actually) at Orange County National....site of the 2005 PGA Q School finals. They have two courses (and an executive 9-holer) - Panther Lake and Crooked Cat. Panther Lake is the better of the two courses, but conditions on both was outstanding. The practice facility is incredible... Anyway, just thought I would give my $.02 on this place...

*sniff* *sniff* - this is EXACTLY what I wanted to hear! Just needed a little reassurance I guess... Thanks for the responses...

I've had my Ping i3 O-size (1 deg down) for a while now...maybe 4 years. Before that I had King Cobra's...boy, WHAT A DIFFERENCE with the Pings. Anyway, between the new irons, other new clubs, about 10 lessons, and TONS of range balls and regular rounds I've worked myself down to a 4 handicap... I like my Pings.....no wait...I LOVE my Pings. I know the yardage of every club, I can hit different shots with every club (except a fade...damn!), and I really like the aesthetics of the i3s... Some people I talk to say I should upgrade - "you need better clubs to improve your game".... My question is, do I really need to upgrade? I haven't hit too many of the new irons out there...just the Mizuno MP60s. I didn't like them... Anyone else out there gone through something similar lately? I have a very fast swing (and tempo!), and hit a high ball which is usually straight or a 5-10 yard draw (about 50/50). Some distances: PW/135, 8-iron/160, 6-iron/180. Thanks!

I've got 3 CG10s and I LOVE THEM. Gunmetal finish. Haven't hit the CG11, but I like the look of the CG10 over the CG11....just personal...

Help: Ball Flight is WAY too high with irons
Mikeland replied to Dminn23's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I used to the ball really high and too the right...a little grip change, and a better (flatter) swing plane fixed it... -
That was kinda my point, in a babbling sort of way.... :) If we're strictly talking records, I believe Tiger will break Jack's record...no doubt.

Shell's Wonderful World is a great show...as is playing lessons...I've learned a lot from that show... How does one get on a show like "Personal Lessons...."? That would be SOOOO cool!!

I think each player was the greatest in their respective era. A better debate would be how each would fair if they played in opposite eras - meaning Tiger plays in Jack's era - equipment, course conditions, etc., and Jack plays in Tiger's era... What is pretty amazing to me is even with all the advances in club technology, ball design, swing mechanics, etc., that have taken the game to a whole new level, Tiger continually elevates his game, even when he is playing poorly.

Director of Networks for a small financial company in Boston. HOWEVER, I'm dying to get into the golf business someway or another (I've got another 12 years to practice for the Champions Tour!).

Good advice from Young04. How long do you warm-up before your round? Try to get to the course a little early and see if you can tune-in to your irons before the round. Also, work on your routine. When you're at the range, do you just stand there and pound ball after ball? If so, try to hit each shot like you're on the course. Go through your routine - grip, aim, alignment, etc. I've noticed that ever since I developed a routine I hit the ball more consistent...it's when I start to rush that everything breaks down. One other thing - don't go for the "large" bucket at the range...get the small and be precise with your practice... Good luck!

Ugh....this past Sunday comes to mind...I seemed to find every green-side bunker on the back nine...and they were all wet and poorly raked. I'm no expert, but man, it sucked! In one of the bunkers I ended up in someone's heel print and proceed to blade the ball over the green and into the woods... Ugh...

Oh yeah? Well, we're still playing in MA too!! I got out yesterday in the *warm* 48 degree weather... Courses are still in great shape thanks to the mild weather we've been having...although we've been having waaaay too much rain. Heading to FL in 3 weeks...looking forward to short-sleeve golf.

Congrats on the low scores. I think a majority of this game is mental...you can groove a swing...but trying to stay focused is quite difficult. One thing I do - I don't add up my score until I'm done with the round... The less I think about the overall score, the better I play... Stay focused on the shot at hand and you will succeed. I almost broke par this year for the first time...I knew it going into the last hole (a playing partner told me...grrrrr...) and I proceeded to 3 putt. Oh well. Good luck!
