  1. Thanks for the reply ry! I was definitely planning on hitting them first, just wanted to know what you guys think as far as overall quality, like is there some problem with the x series that I don't know about and might not find out just hitting it a few times at the range! Like I heard some driver, either the diablo or big bertha I think that the head would fly off the shaft for some people!
  2. I'm pretty much a beginner, so don't really know what I am talking about of course. That being said, everything I've heard and read up to until now is that for someone that could handle them, it's better to grow into an advanced set than to go for the quick fix of game improvement clubs. I think the game improvement clubs would be more for someone like me with a real high handicap that has little hope of ever seriously improving my game! Just my thoughts
  3. So I have some friends/coworkers/near strangers that are willing to sell me their 3 Woods, and I want some of your advice on what you have tried and think about these models. What's good, what isn't why you would or wouldn't recommend, etc. Thanks in advance for your help! I'm looking at: Callaway X series, Taylormade Burner Callaway FT-I Squareway What do you guys think?
  4. I too have an equipment addiction! Or at least for the moment I do, I think it has more to do with the occasional spending sprees I go on in my manic phases and the fact that for the second Spring in a row, I'm obsessed with golf! Good luck, whatever club you choose, I hope it works out for you.
  5. This sounds fun, wish I lived down there near y'all
  6. 1) My 2 year old son 2)My awesome wife, who plays better than I do 3) my second child that is due in September (hopefully a girl!) 4) my new found obsession with golf 5) a new job that I love 6) relatively healthy 7) a supportive and loving family 8) being continually blessed throughout my life
  7. An interesting thought that hadn't occurred to me, but in that area.........I mean South Carolina was still flying the confederate flag at the state house or whatnot until recently! I agree about Hunter Mahan making a run for it, hoping Padraig Harrington takes it though! Also think Villegas, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Paul Casey, and Jim Furyk make a good showing of it.
  8. I want to get off the range and see if some of my newly picked up techniques transfer well to an actual course!
  9. I think he has as much a chance to miss the cut this week after his layoff, as he's ever had. Which is, albeit, very little, but still....... Nothing will surprise me to be honest, MC, finish top 10, finish #1, how could it?

    Augusta Week

The Masters is special to me, as it was last year's amazing ride (Kenny Perry's storyline) that got me hooked on golf. Now with Tiger (not my favorite but still exciting to watch) coming back, Anthony Kim and Ernie Els running hot, etc, I can't wait for it to start! Thank God ESPN captures the first two rounds!
  11. that sucks, you guys got ripped off. Too bad about that really. I'm kind of riled up about the injustice of it all now.
  12. Everything pretty much, but especially: 1. learning to keep my right elbow close to my body (not "chicken-winging" it), 2. striking down on the ball (my divots right now are behind the ball, when I don't just "pick" the ball clean which is most of the time), 3. start my hip rotation/turn before bringing my hands down (saw AK do this perfectly this past week) after the backswing 4. make consistent, solid contact with any club (much improved since I started tucking my right elbow and slowing down my backswing!) 5. learn my distances with each club

    Age

I'm 34, will be 35 in two weeks. I really started playing last year, after watching the Masters....Kenny Perry's awesome story.....three way playoff, Angel Cabrera winning after hitting it into the woods! I played 3 or 4 times before last year, but wasn't really into it until then. Now I'm obsessed!
  14. So what is #5 according to GD?
  15. I'll always pull for Padraig Harrington, but if Tiger could win with all he's been through, it'd be an amazing story!
  16. Just throwing it out there, but Illinois has 6 ranked in the top 100, and this doesn't even include Cog Hill!
  17. Yeah I'd say that go with what feels the best, feels comfortable, makes you feel more confident. For me it was picking up an Odyssey White Hot 2 ball something or other, the kind that has permiter weighting, maybe called a mallet style? It just felt right in my hands, know what I mean?
  18. Ping A7 3 hybrid, 19* Adams Idea Pro Gold Lob Wedge - PROJECT X 6.0 Cobra Baffler 5/R TWS 29* Hybrid Wood - NEW RH PING ISI K IRON SET 5-PW JZ STIFF STEEL ORANGE DOT (for my wife) I went a little crazy over a two-day period. Wife's gonna kill me.
  19. Does it count as a breakthrough is someone else gave me the tip? I was in California last week, Silicon Valley area in Santa Clara to be exact, for work. Thursday night, last night there, I had some early evening time to kill, and looked up the nearest driving range. Pruneridge or something. I hadn't brought my sticks, so was using their trashed ones out of the "loaner" barrel, which probably didn't help me at all, as the grips were worn away or cracked on most of them. About half way through a large bucket, the guys in the stall next to me came over and one of them introduced himselfas Rob, a highschool golf coach near Yosemite. "You know, you'll hit a lost straighter if you tuck your right elbow and keep it as near your side as you can during your backswing." Turns out I have been "chicken-winging" it, probably the whole time I've been playing (almost a year). Sure enough, as soon as I started focusing on keeping that right elbow close to my body, my contact was clean and the flight path mostly straight or witha slight draw (I had been pushing them all right or slicing right as usual). Eureka! These nice guys let me hit their clubs, and I fell in love with a Ping G5 23 deg. hybrid (my first time with one). Came home to Chicago and immediately bought a hybrid of my own! I guess that makes two breaktrhough moments!
  20. I played Ravines last year at an annual charity event hosted by Saint Joseph Hospital. Very nice course, and yes, it was a good test (which I failed miserably) of your skill.
  21. Aschaefer: I too live in Chicago, Albany Park. I used to work at St Joseph Hospital there in Lincoln Park. Where do you play? I'm looking to find some people for semi-regular play, if you're interested.
  22. Have to agree ( a tad late of course) about Robert Trent Jones. Played there last year on a family vacation. What a beautiful course! Way too much for me though, not that I've played a course that isn't!
  23. DEFINITELY! I played #2 last year, Ravines, and loved it. A bit much for me, but beautiful course. With your handicap, you should try #4, Dubsdread, the hardest, and nationally ranked course at Cog Hill. Well worth the trip, not sure about cost, I imagine it is pretty expensive. I was lucky to get a free spot in my hospital's annual charity event.
