    Interesting question. My game has taken a hammering since we had our first child last year. Only getting out 4 days a week for practice (usually 1 hour a day) and then every second weekend for a round. However I've started taking my daughter out in the stroller in the evenings when the course is quiet. She loves it too. If no one is around I'll let her have a run round the green and she loves picking up the balls and putting them in the hole. My plan is to get her hooked so I have an excuse to go and play. Just got a few years before I can leave her to play by herself (she is only 16 months old!). My wife is pretty awesome but she has her stuff to do too and with no relatives nearby it is up to us to perform child minding duties. When we have another it will be very painful unfortunately, may have to stop playing for a few years cause it will just frustrate me if I can't put the time in to keep my game up to where I like it.

    Go Danny Lee! Unfortunate bogey on final hole but hopefully he can string together a few more below par rounds and be there abouts on Sunday!

    I think you mean 10-15 HC. We have already established that his real handicap is probably 7-10 at the moment. Throw in a job and that adds 5 shots :)

    Best Shot of the Week

    I had a pretty solid shot into the green on the 18th last weekend. I was one down in my match so had to win the hole to get a half. I had 140 yards to a back left pin location with a strong left to right wind blowing. I lined up at the left edge of the green and hit a perfect shot that started dead at my target and faded back with the wind about 8 yards to land right on line with the flag about 15 feet short of the pin. My birdie putt was a bit misread (right weight but two feet to the right) but all I needed was par to win the hole after my opponent had tree trouble and had a bogey. Pretty happy with that shot after some difficulty taking my evolvr lessons to the course lately.

    I'm surprised I'm the first to mention this, but all this talk of talent and the drive to practice for hours on end in terrible weather etc as different things, no one has picked up that this is talent. Talent comes in many forms and I believe that you don't necessarily need all of forms to be great at something. You need a lot of them but you can make up for deficiencies in some aspects by being brilliant at others. Zach Johnson is a perfect example, not in the same ballpark of Dustin Johnson, Rory etc in the athletic department but there must be some other aspect (whatever that may be) that he has managed to make up that shortfall that he excels at. Dan on the other hand, I think we are yet to find he excels at any elements of talent.

    Looking forward to what looks like it will be a "typical" british open weather wise. I'm going to go for Danny Lee, after his two best weeks since turning pro his confidence is sky high so I think he may be one of the outsiders to keep an eye on.

    You made the right choice. As much as it would have been a boost to the ego to win it apart from that it wouldn't have done much else. The downside would have been much greater.

    Totally agree, I think the person that posted that quote was meaning well but if you take a second to think about it, it makes no sense at all. Maybe he was meaning worst putt is better than worst chip? Best putt and best chip are equal (in the hole) but as you say, best chip is in the hole and worst putt is ages away. Either way, I always look for a way to putt the ball, even if I am 15-20ft off the green. However there are some times when you just can't and have to suck it up and chip. Having had a case of the thins I usually don't need a second invitation to putt the ball.

    Having very badly sprained my left ankle (I'm right handed) a few years back, no ruputure just sprain. I can sympathise for him. I was back riding my bike in a few days but walking was very difficult. I'd say he will probably be ok to swing but the walk around the course will be the most difficult. Any time you walk on uneven ground or up/down a hill I had to be very cautious not to roll it again. Actually, I rolled my ankle again about 2 weeks after the initial injury when I was out playing a few holes (cause I thought it was ok). I just stood on a very slightly uneven piece of ground and seeing as the ligaments were very weak I went right over and that was me done for another 2 weeks. I'd say he will be ok for PGA championship but will be tough to get ready for St Andrews.

    I agree, is the USA the only country in the world where sports betting is illegal? Just cannot understand it.

    Great commitment there Pete, I live quite far south in southern hemisphere and sometimes in the middle of summer hit the course at 6am. Also staying out till 10pm is great (although now with a kid that hasn't happened for a while). Longest day down here you could be on the course from 5am till 1030pm. I think up there you guys get even longer daylight hours?

    Just stumbled onto this thread yesterday and loving it so far. Thanks for sharing your story Pete and very jealous of your setup. Was at the course yesterday practicing on frozen ground and thinking a home sim setup would be just the ticket. Pity all my rooms incl garage are 8 foot stud :(

    Not the first person to see he is prone to exaggeration! I'm sure he will be back with some clarification that still doesn't make sense to anyone but he.

    Oh dam, didn't know that. Already backed the kickstarter to will see what happens. Only just over 10% towards their goal so they may not make it.

    Very interesting idea. Using NFC and a phone vs a stand alone module (like Game Golf) for a substantially lower price. Very tempted to back this. The major factor pushing me away from game golf is my vanity, too scared to look like a dork walking around with the unit on my belt. This is a lot more inconspicuous.

    I really want to buy a pair but there are no stockists anywhere near where I live. What are the best places online to buy them? Really scared on sizing, I am 9.5 in the adidas puremotion I currently wear but have no idea which size to go for in the trues...

    Sounds a bit like his blog updating schedule. No blog or twitter activity for about 2 weeks. I think this might be the beginning of the end.

    Exactly! The way he goes on it sounds like the mere fact that he is attempting to do this means he is entitled for sponsors to queue up to give him their cash. If he can't even organise himself enough to update minor things such as that why would a sponsor want to pay him to do it? I certainly know I wouldn't (if I had the $$ to chuck at stuff like that). One of the best golf books I've ever read was called Paper Tiger (By Tom Coyne). Brilliant book and from what I could tell in the book he was very dedicated (and had the ground level talent to possibly succeed). I think if he tried it he could have had a lot more success than Dan at gaining sponsorship and who knows what may have happened if he had a bit more $$ behind him.

    Your whole argument revolves around the fact that Dan got down to a handicap of 4/3/2 (or whatever he said he did). Myself (along with a fair few others) don't believe Dan ever genuinely got to that handicap. He got there by selectively handing in the cards that would get him to that index. When he can go out and play to his "handicap" in a tournament (not shoot 90+) then I think a lot more people will be able to take him seriously. Until then, he is just a hacker imo. The most annoying thing (to me) about it is that he somehow thinks he is being hard done by because no sponsors have taken up his "offer" to pay him to promote their product/company. His blog is sporadic at best, I enjoy reading his posts but lately he has at best been posting once every 2 weeks. If he wants to get people really interested he needs to be posting 3-4 times a week.

    Maybe he's taking the scientists point of view and making an early call that Dan has proven his hypothesis wrong?
