  1. I knew something like this was coming and it STILL made me laugh! kudos to you!
  2. That is AWESOME. I certainly couldn't compete with that. but it would be fun to observe.
  3. I don't have any exact numbers to back it up, but I am playing WAY more this year. My wife has decided to take up the game again, so I play every other weekend with her, and at least once a week by myself. I just got a membership to my home course, so I expect that to go up even a little more. 2009 guesstimate - maybe 10 rounds for the year 2010 guesstimate - I have posted 8 rounds on OOB for my "hc", but I know I have at least another 15 rounds that were played before I discovered that site.
  4. @ Carts - Don't be afraid to play by yourself. If you can get out when the course is slow, to me, there isn't much better. I enjoy playing golf with my wife, but a solo round is great! Not to mention that you don't have to worry about trying to teach another person when you (meaning ME) don't have the skills.
  5. I haven't measured the hosel of my old steel shafted 5w yet so this may be a moot point, but... Can I put a driver shaft in a 5w head and trim it to length? I loaned a driver to a friend. Almost two years later I got it back, and the driver head is all dented and dinged up. Note to self: don't let anyone else hit your clubs! EVER!!! It's not a great loss or anything, the driver was a Maxfli Crossbax that I never really liked anyway. Not to mention that I have changed drivers three times since then. But I digress. The destroyed driver had an Aldilla ProtoByYou stiff shaft in it that I have since removed. If it will fit, should I put it in the 5w head? I kind of need a 5w back in the bag anyway.
  6. In the last few days I have been in Golf Galaxy, Golfsmith, Dick Sporting Goods (3 different stores), Target, & Walmart. I saw v2's in all of them. I'm still playing v1's and I love them. The reports that I've read are that the v2's are a bit more durable, but still have the same playability. I have a box of v2's in the closet, I just haven't tried them out yet.
  7. Could you PM the original sender and ask permission to post the contents of the letter after removing all personally identifiable portions first.
  8. I had the exact same thing happen yesterday. My plan when I went out was to practice some things during my round. As I teed off on the first hole, a guy is walking into the pro shop to pay his greens fee. Says, "Hey if you hold on for a moment, I'll join you." I politely declined saying that I wanted to work on some things. I let him play around me on the 3rd tee. I told him that maybe next time I saw him out there we could join up... He seemed like a really nice guy. He proceeded to play one of the fastest rounds of golf I have ever witnessed. Granted I was working on a few things, but I certainly wasn't playing slow. By the time I reached the 5th tee, he was on the 7th green. Glad I didn't change my mind and join up with him. I dislike speed golf.
  9. I plan to go out to the course one evening this week and hit every ball I own from that tee. I'll do it until I can hit a comfortable shot into the fairway. Fortunately, I have a good relationship with the GM and Assistant GM. Told them both that I wanted to do just that, and they each said I could as long as the course was slow.
  10. If you are a drinker (alcohol), you will sweat WAY more in the heat and humidity. DAMHIKT!!

    Fatigue

I don't think I've ever had fatigue ruin a round per-say. I HAVE had beer ruin more rounds than I can remember. Maybe there's a lesson there.
  12. Do you have a hole on your home course where you have an inexplicable mental block? I DO!!! 516-yard par 5 dogleg right. It's not a severe dogleg, just enough to entice me to cut the corner. There was a time when I was very successful at this. I could hit my 5W up over the trees on the corner with a nice fade (OK maybe it was a slice), carry the rough, and give myself a comfortable 3W into the green. Anymore, it doesn't matter what club I hit, I'm in the woods on the right. Last weekend I played a 5i targeting a tree in the left center of the fairway, and push sliced it so far right even I was AMAZED! I just laughed at myself. My only other choice was to get pissed. Today I hit 6i, aiming at the same tree, and for ONCE I pulled off the shot. I was so excited to have a playable ball IN THE FAIRWAY, that I duffed the first 3W. I managed to settle myself down and hit a drop dead gorgeous 3W. GW onto the green, 2-putt bogey. My home course is a 9-hole operation... 2nd time through, I shot an ELEVEN! AIN'T this game fun?
  13. Breaking 100 is cool when you decide to get serious about the game. Congratulations on your achievement. My current goal is to break 90. Keeping the ball in play is an ABSOLUTE necessity. My round today included two doubles, a triple, a quad, and one particularly impressive 6-over (what the 'single word' for THAT?). All thanks to OB penalties. I almost broke 90 in the wrong direction, thanks to shots in the wrong direction. Keep working at it and I'm sure you'll break 90, probably before me!!
  14. I'm jealous!
  15. I would guess that if you club up and swing easy you should be OK. The only time you should really feel anything in the left pinky is on the back swing, and start of the downswing. Just make sure to take the next club, and swing easier. As a contractor I beat the crap out of my hands on a regular basis, and this strategy works for me. If it was the same injury to the pointer, or middle finger, I'd probably take a week or two off.
  16. Realistically if I am within earshot of anyone screaming ANYTHING on a golf course, I'm ducking! The closer it sounds, the faster I hit the deck.
  17. Dealing with JACKASSES like us (myself included) that think the world is their oyster because they are "pros". I couldn't be a pro, not only because I suck at the game, but I could NOT deal with the added pressure of making my meager mortgage payment based on how I finish a golf tourney! On the other hand a 67th place finish in a low end tournament is likely more than I make in a good year!
  18. On the 8th hole recently, I hit into a green side bunker. The greens crew was sitting on their machines on a direct line from me/hole/them. They saw me, know me well enough to know I'm inconsistent (to say the least) out of traps, but they stayed right there watching me. Naturally, I skulled my shot hitting it at about mach 15 right at them. Some how "FORE" wouldn't come out of my face. I yelled "HHHHEEEAADDDDSSSS!!" even though at best the ball would have hit them in the chest. Most of the time I yell OOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRRRR!!! For reasons unknown to me that initial 'F' is difficult to add in! My version certainly gets the point across though.
  19. Greens with so many ball marks they look like the face of a 16-year-old acne ridden adolescent!
  20. I think John Daly may have argued that point a few years ago. For me it would be: Weeds on the green Clumps of crap in the middle of the fairway that the mower missed!
  21. 90-yards 52* wedge. It's a happy place for me
  22. I made that mistake the first time I played a local par three course here about 15 years ago. Felt like a COMPLETE ASS walking around with a bag full of clubs. All I would have needed was a putter, PW, and maybe a 9i.
  23. So, the consensus among the science types here is that this would more than likely be a bad thing to take? Not being a smart a$$, real question.
  24. I drink a lot of water during the round. Afterwards I prefer water fortified with barley and hops.
  25. I don't have any way to prove it other than feel, and nerves. When I go out without any warm up, I stink up the joint. When I make the time to warm up and hit a small bucket before the round I stink it up LESS. As a high handicapper, my swing is very inconsistent round-to-round. However, once I'm playing it pretty much stays the same for that day. I like to know before I start if today is going to be a slice/straight/draw day. That way, I know where my target should be that particular day. If I go out without warm up, I am like to try and force a change on the course which inevitably causes MASSIVE blow ups!
