there is too much body movement and swaying. It looks like a swing that I have tried where I focus on weight shift and tempo, personally I never like this type of swing, just too big of lower body movement on the backswing . I would keep the backswing shorter and keep the hands more away from my body on the backswing and let the weight shift happen naturally and be more aggressive with the hip on the downswing like iacas says so that it creats more spring effect between the lower and upper body. When you move your lower body that much on the backswing, hard to create the proper coiling of the body and it creates a moving center. To me in a golf swing there should be something to pivot against but when you there is no center, where do you pivot??
-
That would work. I've done this with the right side also but anyways...I just like to add, you have to be very very relax with the whole body. The key to me is timing.when you are cracking the hip,you go boom boom two suddle quick motion, you know like not a lot of movement. Basically what I do is again I relax my body and than I just apply a quick turn of the shoulder on the backswing until it gets to about 1/2 to 3/4 backswing where the right arm might not even flex much and than another quick joint with the hip so that I get my hip at slightly past the starting position. The upper body will reconnect with the hip after the hip gets to impact position. Again like boom boom. ***Faster ***you crack your hip, the faster your club head speed is. It is exactly like cracking a whip, except try to think of your upper body as the tip and your hip is the handle. Oh Btw, when my timing is good, even though I just try to make a 3/4 backswing, I feel like when my hip is already to impact position, the hands do get to back into full backswing posittion. It feels like there is huge amount of seperation between the arms and shoulder and the hiip created by the change in direction, and hence give you lots of easy club head speed.BUT honestly fun to play around with, but not a practical swing, maybe for the kids, you know like Tiger pre-harmon. Timing is really a biach.

The Biggest Secret? Slide Your Hips
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
sliding the hip does not produce an open club face. Only if you lean backward or have an upward movement. You all can try it. Actually from the setup position if you slide your hip perpendicular to the ground or slighly inside out and perpendicular to the ground, it gets your hands ahead of the ball and produce the proper impact position. I have done this like a million times.- 949 replies

The key to Straighter driver shot?
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'll give it a shot. ideally the flex of the right elbow is suppose to be about 90 degrees from top of the backswing until you get to slot and the generally the more advance player will rotate their elbow as a release from there. In general the folks who overflex will have a less than 90 degree right elbow bend at top of the backswing and they will drop their elbow almost immediately on the downswing and at slot where the club is accelerating, they will have greater than 90 degee bend of the right elbow,or a straight right arm. They will have a very weak position when the club is suppose to accelerate. What many advance players are able to do is to have a a tiny backswing and a pretty straight right arm or one where the right elbow is greater than 90 degree,or a weak position at top of backswing but at some point later on in the downswing, before slot be able to create the 90 degree bend of the right elbow. How?? Basically it reguires like a pulling in action of the elbows kind of inside out action toward the hip. Doesn't mean you have to pull in your elbow itself, but ideally you want to use some part of your core or lower torso so that it translate to that action so that you have a 90 degree elbow bend at slot. I kind of have my own theories and I arrived at those conclusions pretty much without conventional golf wisdom, and yet I am pretty sure they are accurate and close to the conventional wisdom but maybe the difference being in semantics. You know like I hear Iacas say something and I go hey you know that is how I feel and I think I understand that and I am pretty sure that is what he means. Maybe one day, I 'll post a video and bore you guys with my long and boring theories on the golf swing. -
Control chipping distances
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to birdiedream's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
well, chipping is like a miniswing to me.Keep the wrist firm maintain the bow and lead with the elbow,or shoulder, depends on what I feel like that day. If I want more spin, I pick it straight up with the wrist and come down at the same angle with the elbow. More roll, I stay flatter. As far as distance control,I am pretty mechanical like you. I try to maintain same length of backswing as forward swing and longer backswing means longer chips,I pretty much know where I am going to land but the roll, that my friend all depends on the course condition and feel and that is where being mechanical hurts me. -

Amen!! BUT so hard for most folks to understand or do but boy when they do,it takes their game to a different level. -
The key to Straighter driver shot?
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Well, I kind of remind myself to slow down on the backswing so I could time the top of my back swing better, but personally I don't like swinging slow on the driver, When I am aggressive and accelerate with the lower body and when I get like a rebounding action on the follow though, I almost never hit a bad shot. Personally I think most people's plane are too steep and that is why they hit the driver bad. My backswing is relatively short and my hands are a good distance away from my body and my first move with my lower body move also shallows out the club further. Most people don't get the extension and their hands are closer to the body, which means their natural move down is much steeper and some even complicated the problem because they don't know shallow out the club with the first move with the lower body, and they drive the whole body foward which makes the plane even steeper.A flat bottom with the club ascending is really the key to hitting the driver well. -
How long should your driver be?
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to No1CeltsFan's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
5'9", always play with whatever length of driver I got, never had a issue. Driver has always been realatively the best club in my bag. I don't really believe in clubs or lie or length making a big difference. I think having the right shafts makes the most difference. -
Instruction vs. Going it Alone
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I got stuck at about 2 also but I just kept experimenting on my own and I improved to the point of being a plus hadicapper. For those who made that step, I am sure you can all appreciate that last 3 strokes and how much improvement you need to shave those last few when you are a 2. Anyways, don't know plus what but I use to beat a buddy that was a plus one routinely. Also, I took the PGA playing ability test and finished 7 shots clear of all the could be coaches. I just kept experimentating and experimenting and I am Chinese and I have friends that are coaching in China right now and I quaranteed you I have more insight on the swings than they do. I mean I just never believe that the swing was that complicated. I draw my analogy more scientifically to stuff like whip and snap for energy.I believe in reciprocation. You know what comes up must come down. What goes inside must come outside. I try to implement those things into my swing I believe that the key to the golf swing are the joints and how they move and connect and I could show people exactly how if you stay connected and control one joint and swing in proper plane, you control the whole body and make them all swing close to the ideal plane. I mean I am sure I have flaws in my swing, but I could swing literally in 10 different planes and hit them all pretty straight and I could fade or draw the ball trying to reciprocate planes while controlling one joint. That alone tells me that there is something to the hypothesis that I have, and there is no way any coach could ever have taugh me that. They would had broken down my swing position by position. To me, positions are the result of doing things right. they are reaction to an action. I have always focus on the action . Conventional golf teaching I believe focus on the reaction, which are the positions and try to fix them piece by piece. I mean how many times do coaches tell people that they overswing, they don't maintain the flex in their knee, overturning the hip........ I am telling you they are just pointing out the problem. Simple solution is to change the plane of your shoulder turn and your joints will inevitably end up in different position NATURALLY. For example, I could draw from watching how a shaft release to how the body release. I could imagine that the hip is the bending point of the shaft and the hands are the end of the shaft. in order to get proper energy transfer the and the snap, you have to get the bending point of the shaft past the point in which it originate. So on my down swing I get my hip past my hands' starting position and than pause the hip and that pretty much guaratee a release. That is just one way to release. I mean there are tons of different things I am still experimenting with release and swinging in differnt planes gives you differrent releases.................,I could tell you why the club releases because of natural rotation of the joints inside out and I could demonstrate to anyone how and why natural movement of the joints are the key to a swing....... I am drawing my ideas from the movement of shaft and whips and laws of physics and natural movement of the human joints rather than golf. Don't think I could ever do that if someone had taught me "golf." -
Well, as noted hard to really know unless their is a video and even if.....I am guessing that you are flat to flatter on your pane which produces an over rotation of the forearm.I use to do and that produces the same divot left and hook that you have. That was like when I first started and I use to shoot mid 80s to high 70s. Look, the simplest and the best tip I give to my friends and it works for almost anyone is that try to replicate the backswing plane with your downswing except in reverse sequence and not lose the bow in your wrist. SO if your natural plane is too flat and in. Adjust by taking the backswing more straight and up. You know so you have a slightly inside and up plane on your backswing. Well, how do you square up something that is going up and in on the backswing?? You swing down and out on the downswing except make sure you again maintain the bow in your wrist. Seems kind of intuitive to me but I wonder why people don't do it. I got to be a 2.3 like eight years, the only time I ever kept an official handicap btw, just by practicing that concept without ever taking a lesson or being crazy with reading up on golf stuff.

How Do You Hit 170 Yards With 7 Iron?
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to ronaldkuntoro's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Right on, it is not even hard and I am like 5'9" 150 sulking wet.The sergio Garcia swing is very timing oriented though. Check out ttrang's swing in the other thread. Pretty much same concept. It is pretty much a whipping action with the hip bump and stop,as **fast ** as you can from point A to B. The hip gets ahead at first and dissconnect from rest of the body, than when it stops the hands and arm and shoulder catches up and reconnect with the hip and carry the swing to the finish.I can hit a 7 easy 175 with 3/4 swing. You don't have to be powerful, just need fast hip that can bump and stop fast and be really loose with your arm and body.one reason why Sergio likes that grip and regrip thing. It is not magic. It is just an efficient way to transfer energy. But again, timing is not easy imo. But the other way that I can get there and I like this swing better is that you coil and stay connected with you joints and create seperation with the hip and shoulder. The analogy I like is more like a shaft lagging since the body is firmer.Upper body rebounding off lower body . Probably less efficient energy transfer and I have to swing a lot harder and with more lower body movement but I tend to be more consistent.I think when you stay connected the misses are better. -
As already been noted, too steep in the downswing.Only one way to backspin and that is the club face is coming down steep and the ball climbs up the face. I am guessing you don't extend on your backswing and you are too vertical with your backswing and that from that position you are coming over the top. Just a guess.

Droping club to the inside on downswing
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to GrahamD's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I use to do this when I first started golfing. It works and it is really simple, and than I started dropping my shoulder "inside," and than the toro "inside" and than the hip "inside"........ It is all really kind of the same move. The key thing is when you swing more inside-out, it keeps your hands connected to rest of your body so it lessen the chance of early release and flipping and it also shallows out the club so you flatten out on the downswing. It really works well on the driver and longer clubs, but as I got better, I just didn't like the consistency on the short irons. So just in case you run into the same problem,my solution was that I rotate the shoulder almost like straight up on the backswing and bump the hip straight down on the downswing. It works really well, especailly when you go like 3/4 backswing. -
well, personally I think it depends on the hole setup. If you mostly play open courses with short rough,AND yoiu know how to swing down on the ball with the short irons, I take my chances with the extra twenty yards that takes me from a mid iron to a short iron. But if wacking it means instead of 115 in,you are 100,it is rather pointless. And really, I think you already know what you should do. Just try 80%,especially on the short irons and see how that works out and go from there.

Is this the worst golf tip video, ever?
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to deronsizemore's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Just another guy who thinks their way is the right way. I could both turn and bump the hip. personally I like bumping,or sliding bettter. Some may like turning better. What the guy does not realize is that with right bumping action of the hip, it can also produce an pretty ideal turning motion of the shoulder and set you arms and hands in good position to hit the ball. The club does not care if you turn or slide. -
Flipping at Impact Master Thread
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to TTJR's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I happen to be one of the lucky few who does not flip and from what I have seen the problem is 3 fold. First of all, most people can't feel the top of their backswing. They coil on the backswing but they start their downswing too late, so they drop their hands and arms first because the rebound of the coil in the backswing.Again, just to re-emphasis, IF you start the downswing late, the rebound effect of the coil will drop your hands first.I actually start my downswing a millisecond before I complete my backswing. To me,number one problem in golf, folks have long backswing to feel connected and wound up but their first downswing move is a negative move that let all the energy build up escape. Secondly, the downswing has to start with the core. Once you time the transition correctly,if your start the downswing with your core, that will not only maintain the bow in your wrist but the right angle in your right arm as well.I use the core to get my arm to slot, without losing the bow nor the right angle of my right arm. Last, your plane. If you are turning your core or moving it in a inside out matter, the body stays connected and swing in unison and you shouldn't flip. BUT if you are an arm swinger, and you add a wrong move in the end,all bets are off. Also, I am assuming one has a decent backswing. -
The High Draw with a Driver
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to pavespawn's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I most definetely agree. I would also add that it is all about the plane. You want to hit it high, make sure you also have wide arc and hit the ball on the up swing. Yeah ball position helps but let say if I tee it high and I swing down with a more upright plane on both back and downswing, the ball will not go as high as if I swing up with a flatter and wider arc. Trust me on this. I know how to do both.Basically if I have a more sit down move with my hip,the plane is steeper, and the trajectory will be lower. If I have more of a jumping up motion with the lower torso, the plane is flatter, and the driver is ascending and the ball goes higher. -
Hockey, even though I don't play hockey. A throw in baseball is a step forward. Hockey is more of a wind up with a stick that lag and whip through, pretty much golf . I am not sure about baseball, they seem to be more wristy with the throw, especailly pitchers that want to create side spin to fool hitters. I never play organize ball but that is what it looks like to me.
-
I could use right arm or left arm ,or shoulder or hip, or spine etc........ It is just personal preference. Guys seriously, Aren't they all connected?? Maintain the cock in your wrist and coil and heck you can even swing with your knees... I tell you and I swear on my mothers, I can hit the ball decent just pivoting around my foot. Although I must say, turn your back against the ball so your left shoulder touches the chin and just swing the left shoulder toward right field gives a good combo of power and simplicity. Trust me,if there is one guy that has done all kinds of crazy stuff pivoting around different joints,it would be me, and I telll you it has more to do with how you move the joints than what joints you use or what body part and golf is a lot simpler if you try to pivot and control one and make the right movement than if you are doing crazy things with 14 different joints . Golf is crazy because there are so many pivots.
-
Swing the club up and out,you know like toward the right field power ally and up. Heck, usually I don't recommend using the hands but if you don't care about power and just want 200+ yards, just make sure your tempo is decent and **keep the body quiet and throw the hands toward right field. Let your hands move your body. You know like baseball, If you are a single hitter the simplest swing is to throw you hands, so just imagine yourself slapping a ball to right field.
-
I have no drill but usually when I start hitting blocks, I do one of of these 3 things and I get back on track. 1. slow down the backswing. when you are too fast with your backswing, it takes a lot more energy to clear the hip because well, fast backswing mean not only you need energy to to complete your downswing but you also have to fight through the energy created on the backswing. It could be done, but it takes a a really strong dude or a really good lower dody move to overcome it. 2. drag the club straighter and flatter on the backswing. This gets my club to swing more naturally along target line and gives me better chance to square the club head. 3. This is usually where I screw up and I do it when I get lazy. I move the whole left side of my body. I think I am moving my hip only, but I am not. It causes me to sway a bit and i usually block to the right. It is SOOOO important to get only the hip ahead first, It created that little C from the middle of your body. Basically all pros have to it to some extend. and most high to mid handicapper don't have it. As disscussed in the best thread here- "the biggest secret-slide your hip." I am like pretty slow with the backswing and bang I try to get that lower body only to get ahead. Humm, now that I think about it I do have a drill. Put your left foot up almost up against he wall, put your hands together like in a normal setup.Make a backswing and on your downswing, get your left hip as close to the wall without it hitting the wall .Make sure you are not unwinding your shoulder too early and make sure you get the feel of getting through the ball with your hip.

Golf Glove or No Glove???
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to ericstamper's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Depends on the condition of the grip. If it is decent and clean, I play just as well if not better without a glove. -
odd problem...power at the strangest times
KEEPITSIMPLE replied to Jack Lee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I could tell you from my experience is that the tempo of your backswing was ideal and IMO you probably slow down your backswing and started your downswing a fraction of a second before you completed your backswing. What happens with that is you are able to create more seperation between the lower and upper body and that allows more lag, whip, delay release, hands ahead at impact or whatever people want to call it.It all start at that little fraction of a second. When you backswing is too fast, the hands tend to get stuck behind you on the downswing. Also,One is basically fighting your backswing on the way to accelaration . If you start your downswing too late, the tendency is to drop the hands first and you lose the coil and the power. The analogy I like to give is like a whip. When you are cracking the whip the only way you can do it correctly is to speed the handle on the downswing while the tip is still moving backward. Even if is it is just a fraction of a second, the amount and efficiency of kinetic energy transfered when one get the proper timing down is quite extraordinary. Lot of people like to focus on swing plane, but personally, I could swing in number of different planes and hit it all pretty straight but how well I make a swing has more to do with how I transition and the timing of that transition than anything else. I can assure you once I made myself aware of this fact, I can get distance without really having to swing hard. I don't know if it is what happened with you but again It works for me and perhaps you can try it and see if that is the case here, and judging by your handicap I am guessing you probably don't know how to create lag and I would bet you coil and lag in this case without really understading how to repeat the action. -
Never, I am not that into scoring. I like the comraderies and wagering always gets my blood pumping. Imo, overstrategizing takes the fun out of the game. I like to hit that incredible one out of 10 shot just because it is simply a high when you execute it. That being said, I don't pin hunt most of the time, I will always bail away from OB.
