Please... could you make your title about winners less revealing... like "Congrats to the Evian winner... Spoilers inside" I had tivo'd the match, and was bummed when I read Natalie won - not that I didn't want to see her win, but who likes watching an event when you know the outcome.... So maybe next time..... And yes - congrats to her, she is no longer the Anna Kournakova of golf! Mike

I switched to a Mac years ago, and now have the G5 desktop, and an Intel dual core Macbook Pro. PC's are the better gaming platform, but with BootCamp, you can get that on your Mac, and then have the best consumer OS out there when you're NOT playing games... Heck - I've got Half-Life on my MacBook and it plays ust fine for me!

Guerin Rife Barbados Putter
mkoreiwo replied to FutureSound's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Got one and I like it. If you like it get it.... after all, you can't just have one putter now, can you. Seriously. Unless there is something that you feel is obviously 'wrong" about a putter that you use, i think you can become a good putter with whatever you use. And, if you really like the darn thing, maybe you'll also putt better with it! I like the feel, and the lie alignment tool to fine tune the setup. Its a putter, I really can't say to much more. My view is like I said above - ya gotta like your putter... -
Well I went out and it was in the mid 90's with high humidity.... I walked 18 at a course with a varied terrain. I hydrated before, and during... it was a bear. By the back nine my shots were suffering, and I wanted to pack it in. But i stuck it out and finished. I don't mind the heat, but if I wanted a satisfying round, next time I'll opt for a cart in that heat.

The Impact Zone - Bobby Clampett
mkoreiwo replied to Mhinderaker's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I thought it was an "interesting" read, but he tended to have too much about himself in there. Overall, like many golf texts, when you consider what he says, it appears to make sense. Since i have been taking lessons, I'm trying to avoid things I read, and am focusing on what my pro is telling me. There's simply too many theories, and each is subtly different, just enough to have you messing up your swing! But in all I was surprised that I generally liked it (Clampett as an announcer is too much a Tiger fan for me - can't stand him for that.). -
Blow up holes are wat makes high handicappers. The other day I played 18 and was hitting really well for myself, and there were a few holes where absolutely nothing whent right. Despite all our efforts to play wihtin ourselves, it boils down to consistency. That is one of the things that separates the highs from the lows, not how far we hit. Until I really get my swing consistent - through good, effective practice, I accept the blow ups as part of the game at my level. I don't let them bother me - tthe last two holes I played were two of my best.

Awwww, I'm the same way... I just keep playing. It's the joy I get from the good shots that keeps me coming back. I'm at work right now in a meeting... I'm sick, but I'm lovin' the game. Come on.... stick with it, we need nuts... Hey - join Golf Nuts!!!

I started with an overlap, went to an interlock.... Played that way last season and start of this one. I've been struggling with slicing, and decided to try the overlap again. It seems to have helped. At the range the rigt side was pretty much not a factor. We'll see if it lasts LOL.

Enjoy! I've the Ogio Edge model.... did they discontinue that one? But I like mine. I like the design. Hope you got to play yesterday - here in CT it was gorgeous! I may detour on the way home today....

I definitely feel they should be legal. I'm not going to make any great strides using one, but it simply helps with picking a club. It is the equivalent of a course caddy in my opinion. Every sport has advances in technology that sometimes are met with resistance. There are even some courses that have carts with GPS units on them.... I say go for it - I like my Sky Caddie.

Pretty much I agree with clubswinger on this one.... I don't give a hoot about their sexual orientation - let's be real here - does it matter? But men are the bulk of sports watchers, and as a friend of mine likes to say "all men are pigs".... so better looking women golfers = more "perceived" interest... just my humble 2 cents.

help me stop spraying it all over the course
mkoreiwo replied to vamosbarca's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
just curious... have you tried finding a good teaching pro and taken any lessons? Your swing doesn't look too bad IMHO, but yeah, two things pointed out I would agree with as well.... get a little flex in your knees, and try not to be so steep in your swing. This of course may not fit with your style of swing, but for me a flatter swing plane works better for me. If you look at your video, your left arm winds up well over your shoulder line... I prefer more of a bent over position and trying to keep my backswing in line with my torso rotation. I am an advocate of the Jim Hardy "one plane" theory.... Just so you are aware of my swing thoughts.... YMMV Good luck.... -
Impact Tape Recomendations?
mkoreiwo replied to InTheTwenties's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You can try black electrical tape as well... I did find a sithe that sells a whole lot of impat tape options, but don't have it right now.... -
I think - hope - she does notch a win soon, if not she will certainly get the rep of all show no go. Last year she dropped that tourny in the playoff - or was it on the 18th against Kim. She can play, but she seems to lose it on weekends when she is in contention. Hope she gets the win this season. After that, I think she'll win more often.

The newer SG3/4's have better graphics than the SG1/2 series. I don't like the subscription deals, its a bit pricey to cover the US area, and they are not transferrable should you upgrade to a newer model - you have to bauy a new subscription! The customer service at SkyCaddie has a horrible reputation, and I can say, they are not very good from my personal experience. The Sureshot has a nice color screen, can keep score (if you decide to enter your strokes), can recommend clubs for you - based upon either you generating average distances based upon your marking your shots, or manually inputting your distances. And when you map a course - you can add hazards - can only do greens in SkyCaddie. Also, I have emailed Sureshot twice in the past and they were quick to respond in both cases - and I don't even own one yet! If they had their database available last year before the holidays... a Sureshot would have been my choice for a new gps.... YMMV Mike

I'm in Milford. Haven't yet played Richter. My friends and I have it on out "to do" list for the year. Mostly we play Orange Hills, Grassy Hill, Whitney farms, occasionally Oxford Greens, Laurel View and Lyman Orchards, and very rarely Great river.... We're cheap! :) The SureShot will work, but unless the course is pro mapped - no hazards. If they have the courses you play, and you don't have a gps, I think they have the best to offer - even with the amateur courses vs. pro course ratio.
-
Ocean City Maryland has some good package deals... Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head.... If you want something a little more $$ look at Bandon Dunes in Oregon!
-
I inquired, and the "amateur" courses are indeed, just front, center, and rear green... They got these mapped quickly to build the database, but will eventually get them Pro mapped when they can. You have the ability with the SureShot to edit these on your device to add the hazards/markers if you so desire.... I am very tempted to get one... But I have an SG2 and SG4 skycaddie!! Got to dump at least the SG2 before I get the Sureshot!

Something about her grates on my nerves as well... I don't think I'll ever warm up to her.
-
Well, I enjoyed the heck out of it. Yeah, it can be "thrilling" to see tons of birdies and eagles, but is that really a test for the pros? Everyone has a view on this, and there is no "correct" opinion. I do think there is room for a lot of discussion on this years Masters, and how the course changes may - or may not - prove to be mistakes as time passes. The conditions this year made the course play very, very tough. Mstuk mentioned that the winner was going to be whomever made the fewest errors.... isn't that ultimately who does win anyway? I always like to go back to a statement made by Jack Nicklaus, to paraphrase - How about fairways and greens? If next year sees another brutal Masters, I think Fazio's changes may eventually be viewed as a great blunder to some, and a brilliant transformation to others....

How do I show people that golf on TV is Compelling?
mkoreiwo replied to leapbean's topic in The Grill Room
This is an ambitious project! I watch golf because I discoved a "sport" that has succeeded in baffling me at how deceptively difficult it is to play well. So when I watch, I am trying to absorb a bit of knowledge on how to swing well... I also am appreciative of the skill level the pros have. A non-golfer just does not know what is involved in hitting a good shot... One degree of difference in the face can send a ball way off course... I wish you luck... 5 minutes is a tough sell, and I don't think it can be done for non-golfers... -
Well, if you have the patience, you certainly have a great set of clubs to learn with. I see you are taking lessons - I hope they are private and not group lessons - you'll get way more with private lessons. Why not discuss your concerns with your pro, who has seen you swing, and can best evaluate your abilities. Personally, I don't know how much I would have enjoyed taking up golf at my age (was 49 when I started) if I had to hit blades. If you're hitting them well, then I'd stick with them, if you are struggling a bit, there are tons of cavity back irons that will indeed improve your game.... and if that were the case, I'd save those blades, get some cavity back irons to get started on till you feel you are ready to try those blades again... You may find you won't want too - golf should be enoyable! Just my 2 cents....

Im getting ready to put up a 10x10x10 golf pracrice net/cage. I plan to use it mostly for drills that I can do, not really for long full swing sesions. Without a monitor, hitting into a net won't tell you much about your swing... Still to satify my jones when I can't play.... I'll take the net!
-
I wish I could banish any thoughts while I swing! But I try to keep it simple, and like mnel, Ernie helps me out too.. I think of an "ernie els" tempo... ernie on backswing, els down and through. OK it really isn't like that... But above all I think "smooth and easy" and the little back thought is get through to the finish! Mike
