Bogey Golfers Only (Index 16-22) / Breaking 90 Topic
Higgins1991 replied to rkim291968's topic in Golf Talk
Had my first round after roughly 18 months out due to the birth of my daughter. First two holes I couldn't swing a club then on the first I started slowing it right down and it seemed to work. Carded a 93 which was not bad as the greens were recently aerated and a couple of putts lipped out. Generally happy with it and glad to say that I've been reunited with the bug! -
I play myself most of the time. I'm a student just now and most of my friends have full-time jobs so when I have spare time I usually just went down the course and played either 9 or 18 alone. I feel it's sometimes better than playing with buddies as you're not subconsciously trying to out-do your opponent

Was playing a local municipal course with a couple of my friends earlier in the week and was playing a long par 4. My drive ends up in the right hand rough which that day was really playing hard. I take out a 5 iron to try and get it out but the grass just catches the club and the ball maybe goes 40 yards and lands in some lighter rough. There are some guys on the tee of the par 3, which is behind the green of this par 4 and I can make out one of the guys turning round to his friend and pointing as if to say 'look at that'. I walk up to my ball and hit a nice 8 iron that's all over the pin, takes one hop on the green and hits the pin, landing about 5 feet from the hole. Walk up and make the par putt infront of the guy, felt good :)

I know asking for any advice may be a long shot considering I don't have a swing video yet but hopefully I can make it to the golf club tomorrow and take a few. Anyway, basically for the last 2 months any time I hit a tee shot with my driver the ball barely gets five feet off the ground and therefore goes about 30-40 yards in front of the tee box. I've been playing golf for two years now and never had this problem as consistent as it is just now (it happens on every tee shot!) and before this started happening I had gotten to the stage where my drives weren't necessarily long but they were straight-ish and high. The sound at impact sounds as if I'm making a semi-decent connection but I'm obviously not, I'm just adding this information incase this gives any further indication as to what my problems are. My irons are generally good, I can get those up in the air no problem. I have tried putting the ball further towards the inside of my left foot (I'm right handed) but to no avail. It's getting to the stage that I have completely no confidence walking up to the tee and it's really frustrating as it seemed the just start during one round and I can't seem to shake it. Once again, sorry for the lack of a video of my swing, I shall post one as soon as I have it which will hopefully be tomorrow, but any suggestions at all based on the description would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, John.

Played 9 holes a couple days ago with my uncle and his brother. Shot +9, pretty good for me though. Every hole I had a putt for par which is really unusual for me, my short irons were really letting me down though. Think if I had stayed no played the full 18 that I would have legitimately broke 90 for the first time, so excited for the next time I go out (Sunday)

Am I The Only One who Still Uses a 2 Iron????
Higgins1991 replied to Titleist695mb's topic in Golf Talk
My dad still uses his 2 iron and regularly tees off with his 1 iron too. I can't hit either of them though! -
Your Best Shot Ever (not counting Hole in Ones on Par 3's)
Higgins1991 replied to PiKapp23's topic in Golf Talk
My best shot to date was on the 6th hole at Bothwell Castle Golf Club. Hit a not-so-decent drive that found the rough and continued to hit my second shot fat - sending the ball all of 20 yards further towards the hole. I was left with about 90 yards to the pin so pulled out a pitching wedge. After a few practice swings I hit the shot and it stopped dead about 1inch from the hole. It felt amazing ! -
Break 100 more often. Managed to break 100 three times during the summer and was pretty happy about it. The lowest I shot was 94, extremely happy about that given I started the game properly in the autumn of 2010. Become better at course management. Too many times I've gone into a shot knowing in the back of my mind I should be playing a different club/different type of shot. Get more Birdies. Only managed a few this year, hopefully that's the start of many more to come :) Practice more often, both short and long game. Be in better shape, not only fitter but hopefully gain some muscle to hit the damn thing longer!

I usually only play with my uncle and father, but sometimes I play with some friends I met in work, and have managed to get a couple of my friends from my old high school to take up golf which has been pretty cool :)

I'm not a very long hitter to be perfectly honest, so my nine iron tends to go from between 110-115 yards.

Shot a 99 on my home course. Personal best on my home course, second best to a 94 on another course. Hit the ball well for me today, was hitting my low irons fantastically ( not usual for me ) only thing that was letting me down was my short game. God knows how many putts I had, couple hours on the putting greens tomorow I reckon.

Stick at the practise greens! Good luck with the op!

Do you have any irrational habits about golf?
Higgins1991 replied to parbreaker's topic in Golf Talk
I never keep anything other than balls, tees, markers, a glove or scorecards in my pockets during a round. I never ever take my phone on the course either, I have a tendancy to check my phone every five or ten minutes at least. Being able to relieve myself of that for a few hours does wonders! -
I really hate when people are just inconsiderate to the golfers they are holding up. For example, I was playing a round at my club, and a four ball in front took roughly 5 minutes to vacate the 18th green after they had all sank their putts, due to them chatting and marking down their scores, even though it was obvious that my friend and I were only about 120 out ready to hit our approach shots. It's only manners to notice that they were holding people up and could have easily moved on

Was playing with my father and two uncles during last week. First nine went terrible, but on the back nine hut some of the best shots I ever have. Managed to get my driving sorted out and drove the ball as far as I ever have, and drove the green on a short ~300 yard par 4, three putted though :( Then after that hit my first par 3 green in regulation and sank a 12 ft downhill putt for my first birdie ever! Felt amazing :)

Thought it would be an interesting and funny topic to discuss, have you ever hit another golfer with your ball before? If so how did it happen? I'll go first, I was teeing off with a 3 wood (hadn't yet came to terms with my driver) which I usually hit quite well. The hole is fairly straight, and from the tee, the previous hole's green is say 30-40 yards to the right. Anyway, a foursome were walking up to the previous green, and sure enough, I hit possibly the worst shot I could have, maybe 2 feet off the ground and swerving right towards one of the guys! Needless to say it was a sore one, although believe it or not, my ball bounced off of his shin directly back onto the fairway. FIR i guess.

Hit an average drive for me (~180 yards) on a par five, then hit a decent 5 wood. Ended up about 180 out, hit what turned out to be the best five iron I'd ever hit, rolled up to within 3 foot of the pin. Missed the birdie putt (my first birdie putt) but sunk the par (also first par putt). Would have much rather had that birdie!

Just started playing golf this summer, and didn't play much to be honest. Hoping this summer to get at least 5-6 rounds in each week, as I have university holidays (4 months off!)

How much is your golf set worth?
Higgins1991 replied to billysandy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
These are just rough conversions into US dollars. Bag - $150 Irons (3-9) - $350 Wedges - $50 Putter - $70 Driver -$100 Woods - $100 So roughly about $820 -
Pull out a 3 wood for my tee shot on the 10th hole at my home course. Can usually hit the club fairly well and straight, so when I seen the 4 ball behind us making their way up to their green on the right of the tee box I think that shouldn't be a problem. Wrong, hit the ball extremely low with a mighty slice and the inevitable happens, it heads straight towards the guys to the right of us, hits off one of their shins and bounces right back into the centre of the fairway! Ended up with a better tee shot than I could have done without hitting him!

Working primarily on fixing my slice with the driver & fairway woods. Second to that I've been working A LOT on my putting, both have been improving a good bit recently which I'm pleased with.

Shot a 105, wasn't too unhappy with it at all. Playing again tomorow morning with my old man so hopefully improven on it then
