I think the R9s are some of the best GI irons out right now. They are forgiving and feel great, not to mention they're long. They're damn good looking to, especially when compared to TMs other GI offerings (Burners). I haven't tried the MX200s but I hit the GC7s and they were nice irons as well, but the feel wasn't quite as nice as the R9s

I live 2 blocks from Golf Galaxy so I go in there every day and pound hundreds of drives in the simulator until the emplyees kick me out, never buy a damn thing...

Hitting too down on the ball?
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to TaylorMadeTaylor's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
My wrists are bowed at impact, I can see it on my camera (but I can't get it uploaded on this POS computer so I need to call my dad to come over with his, but as usual I'm heavily procrastinating). That is all good and fine, so I really need to focus on my swing plane. It is too steep. That's clear and that's obvious. I have made a few winter swing changes and have widened and flattened my arc, and started lagging more. Based on my range session it's working great. But, there still a few shots that pop up where I go back to my 'old' swing, which results in the original problem, and there are some where I try to hard to flatten out, turn over my wrists too much, and pull hook the piss out of it. I really need to get this video up... Oh, by the way Taggsy I'm not an "official" 9.2 index. I just put that because my last 10 scorecards were averaged 81.2 strokes. -
Looking for a new shaft again
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to TaylorMadeTaylor's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks guys, I think I'm going to go ahead and order the PL red. The only place I can find it for $20 is Rock Bottom golf. I've never ordered from them before, are they a reputable site? EDIT: Do you guys think the PL red is too low launch/spin? What flex do you recommend? -
Question about grip logos.....
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to ajschn06's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It doesn't matter to me. I'm not one to do something to my clubs because that's "what the pros do". I can understand the cleaner look thing, but I'm too busy looking at the clubhead/ball to let the grip mess up my alignment. -
I am looking for a new shaft for my R9 Supertri. The stock one just snapped underneath the grip . It was a bit too spinny anyway. I'm looking to keep the price under $100 installed. The setup I am using is 9.5 with stiff flex. When I hit the driver at the store last week the numbers were something like this: Launch angle: Around 11-12 Spin rate: Between 3100-3400rpms Clubhead speed: 105-110mph Carry distance: Just over 240yds I would like the launch to be similar with the new shaft, but want to bring the spin down to the 2500-2700 range. EDIT: I did the Ture Temper online fitting thing, It's recommending me a Prolaunch Axis platinum shaft in X flex. (which is within my price range) and I'm also looking at the Proforce V2 and Adila NVS. Any other recommendations?

How Many Wedges Do You Carry?
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to teece31's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I carry a 4 wedge setup, 48*, 52*, 56* and 60*. I like it because it has the same 4* loft gap that I have throughout my iron set. The 48* is part of my iron set and I use it for mostly full shots, sometimes for short chips and bump and run. The 52* is used half the time for full shots and is what I do most of my chipping with (provided there is a good amount of green to work with). The 56* is what I use out of bunkers, and some chips. And, the 60* is for flop shots and chips where I don't have alot of green to work with. It works out pretty well and I have all situations covered. If I were to run 3 wedges, it would most likely be 48*, 54*, 60*. -
Haven't played today but shot a 41 on the back nine of my home course sunday. It was raining, but it was almost 60 degrees and I enjoyed that while it lasted (it's like 18* now). I was driving the ball pretty well, approach shots were good, but I couldn't putt. I'm blaming the wet greens

Painting a graphite shaft
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to binga7's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
A coat of paint would have negligable effects on weight and stiffness I think. I don't see a problem with it. -
I didn't say a word. I couldn't with my jaw all the way down on the floor. Yea, and the ball was slamming the fabric thing really hard and it was super loud. The employees often tell me that the distance isn't accurate but the ball speed is. For what I saw his balls were coming off over 200mph. Yea, I was thinking he did something to the monitor to make it spit out crazy numbers, but his swing looked awfully fast. I'm sure most of them broke 400 though (or at least the launch monitor says so). Maybe he's just a really long hitter that doesn't want to publicize himself. Either that or Jamie Saldowski with a wig on...

So I'm in Golf Galaxy hitting in the simulator, trying out a couple new drivers (910 and the new Machspeed) and in walks this guy, probably 5'11'' 175lbs, looks like your typical surfer dude. Long shaggy hair, vans, rusty shirt, sunglasses on his head. The store is about to close and there are probably 2-3 employees working, all of them at the front desk. I'm hitting them pretty average, most rolling out to around 255-260 yards. He walks up, grabs a pre-owned driver off the rack and asks me if he can hit a few. He tees one up, and blam! the ball takes off, carries forever, and rolls out to 432 yards! . I was astonsihed. He hits a few more, all of them breaking four bills. After about ten balls, he leaves and heads to the clothing section, and I'm just standing there in disbelief. I step back in to make sure it wasn't just the machine acting up, and sure enough, 255 yards. Isn't this guy outhitting long drive champions? I know it was just a launch monitor but this guy was displaying insane numbers, like 148 swing speed, and 205 ball speed. It was just nuts. Do you guys think this is legit? Or did someone drop some LSD in my water bottle and I was trippin'.

I saw it while eating lasagna.

Hitting too down on the ball?
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to TaylorMadeTaylor's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I haven't even tried it yet, but I have tried (and like) the drill to keep my head still. -
I was using a 5-hybrid as a utility club/extra fairway wood but I didn't like it. It ballooned on me alot. I prefer the lower, more boring trajectory of my 3-iron which goes the same distance. I used to carry a V-steel but I did the same thing I did with the 5 hybrid and replaced it with an extra wedge.

Hitting too down on the ball?
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to TaylorMadeTaylor's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Thanks for the tip. I'm going through some BIG winter swing changes and will add this to the list. -
That's nuts. If that hit in his torso or even worse, his head, that could have done some lethal damage. I can't beleive he went back to finish, what a trooper!

I would say Bubba. He's a small thin guy, but look, he's in the top three for driving averages. Dustin Johnson has a very powerful swing as well, I'll never get bored of watching him tee off.

Hitting too down on the ball?
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to TaylorMadeTaylor's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yea I took a swing video and, wow. I noticed a lot of things off the bat, and it does look like I'm to steep. I can't get the damn thing uploaded though, my laptop is broken and this computer is not letting my upload it. I'll have to find someone who will let me use theirs. -

I've played both today and yesterday, as well as thursday and wierd thing have been happening at impact. Often when I'm hitting my short and mid irons I've been digging into the ground excessivley. I'm not talking about hitting it fat, the shot turns out fine but after impact my swing is severly decelerated my the turf, and sometimes completley stopped so I can't follow through. It's really annoying me. When I try to prevent this, I just end up hitting it very thin with ugly results. DO you think my angle of attack is too steep? Are there any drills or tips to prevent this?

Buying golf clubs on Ebay....
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to ajschn06's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I bought my set of irons from eBay with problems and love them. If you're looking at an older club that's used then it has a much lesser probability of being counterfeit than say, a brand new Titilest 910, or TM Supertri. -
What is the flex on this shaft
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to hartattack52's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It's probably a womens, it's easy to get a general idea of flex by just flexing the shaft with your hands with the club against the floor. -
I'm an insane masochist (winter, swing changes, etc.)
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to ohiolefty's topic in Golf Talk
Try mishitting a Top Flite XL range ball with a 1970s 1-Iron blade in -20 degrees butt-ass naked. -
Can't drink yet, but I play with these two guys all the time that drink before, during, and after their rounds. I can't tell if it effects their game, probably because they'd play like hacks either way (they're your typical hackers complete with iron covers, ball fishers, stroke counters and all the like).
