  1. I watch both. Enjoy both but seriously, why is this even discussed? Tiger can say what he can because if it wasn't for him, golf on TV would be less than hockey. Someone in this thread said hockey averaged a 1.8 share while the last 5 tournaments were less than 1.5 so golf - Tiger is more irrelevant to the average joe than your average hockey game is. War between fans? Not really - lets get some perspective here. the internet does not = reality. Hocky has their fans and golf has her's. Some/many are fans of both and can appreciate both. Some aren't/can't. Let it go.
  2. I used to golf a bit 3 years ago. Got back on the track this year. My second time out, golfing and it went to crap. I quit golfing on hole 4 and basically walked around with my brother who continued his round. We still went to another place to do another 9 and I golfed it out there. I lost 11 balls on 13 holes. I still could only think of golfing some more. It is addicting.
  3. Golf for you - no one else. If the red is where you want to be then be there. I hate it when other golfers seem to think it is their place to correct you on your game. It is one thing if a guy isn't replacing divots or driving a cart over the green - that affects everyone but say a guy takes a mulligan or uses the foot wedge to improve his lie - who cares? I have seen people talk to others about it and it bothers me. Seriously - some guy went up to another 4some to tell a guy that the foot wedge isn't part of his game and shouldn't be used. WTF? Let the guy golf the way he wants. You paid your green's fees, use them as you see fit as long as you aren't damaging someone else's game or the course.
  4. Can someone point me to where I can compare irons? I am a high handicapper who needs to upgrade and I am trying to decide between Calloway Fusions and the x-18 irons. Would be looking for any advice on the actual difference between the 2. My iron play is actually rather decent - if I could straighten out my driver I would be much better. Can't figure out why my drives go right so much verses maybe 6 yards or so right on my irons. PS - little brother (lucky guy gets to golf 4x a week) is telling me I should look at Nike Slingshot OS or OSS irons. Any thoughts there?
  5. I don't hate any of them but I can't ever find myself rooting for Hefty, err Mickleson. Just don't dig the guy is all.
  6. Considering Woods is one-quarter Chinese, one quarter Thai, one quarter African American, one-eighth Native American, and one-eighth Dutch, a racial thing would have to be pretty much a stretch for me. A black man just won the Iowa Caucus for the Dems. Is there racism out there - sure but I don't think it is nearly as pervasive in sports as some would like to believe. I really do not believe there was anything racial in the comment. White people been lynched too....
  7. Devil's Dance Floor - Flogging Molly
  8. I am a golf noob and really only play for my own enjoyment. I guess the question then becomes - just what EXACTLY is addressing the ball. Do you only have to ground your club to be considered at address? Or do you have to be in a swing ready position, that is feet shoulder width apart - eyes over the ball type of thing?
  9. For me I chose too expensive but I could also have gone with other. I want to have fun and golf is certaintly challenging. Thats the problem it takes so much time and money off the course to be able to have fun on the course. No one wants to go out and shoot 124, lose 9 balls, and a sunburn every day.
  10. That's awesome. I felt the same way walking around Peble Beach and I didn't even golf at the time. Wasn't interested at all. Walked into the club house and out by 18. It just kind of shakes you a little. Now of course I am in no position to do that (living in Monterey at the time) and I wish I had the opportunity to all over. Glad you got to take advantage of your chance!
  11. Thanks for the help - right now the son just loves driving balls. My driver is shorter than my 7 iron. Thats where I need the help.
  12. Get my son on the course. Break 110 Learn a proper swing
  13. All, Was wondering if anyone had any insights into a good book or video to learn the proper golf swing. I have golfed maybe a total of 12 times. I own a set of Acuity clubs (Dick's Sporting Goods specials). I am decent with decent irons (imo) but I can't swing a wood to save my life and can not help but feel my swing is really bad. I would appreciate any advice as to a video I should pick up to learn. Of course you see Ledbetter all over the place, is that where I should be looking? ETA: I haven't been able to golf at all since last I posted. So this year I start 100% fresh but I bought my son a set of clubs and he is pretty excited to golf together. At 8 years old - I'll take it!
  14. No one mentioned Nancy Lopez or Mollie Fankhauser? Seriously - I would have to go with Annika - not a super classic beauty but still good looking and a vault full of little wallet sized pictures of dead presidents can make anyone look better - ask Paris Hilton.

Then again - those shoes probably wouldn't slow me down either ;) Never saw anyone hurt by having good stuff.
  16. Texas if you can stand the heat - San Antonio in July will cook but if you really had to play every weekend - can be done.
  17. Mine would be driver and the long approach. Often off the tee I have found I could have thrown the ball farther. I am much better with the 5-9 irons. Putting is decent. Don't really remember a large amount of 3 putts if any. I know some will laugh but as a kid I lived on minature golf courses - putt 5-6 hours a day, 4 days a week and a putter doesn't scare you much :) I am the most nervous on the tee and I think that kills my game. Plus I would do well to tie a rope from my nose to belt as I lift my head a lot (so they tell me)

Age - 30 My goals are short term - break 100 - long term scratch. As to upgrading equipment -- I am willing to move slow - 9 rounds of golf is probably a low number - I simply guessed as I never really took notice. Surely no more than 15. My last 2 scores were 105 and 107. I played 2 rounds with a set of PING G5 irons - really liked them as I seemed to play much better - were it not for 2 holes I really think I woulda broke 100. I have no problems with taking lessons. Thanks for the advice...
  19. I like watching Tiger and have nothing bad to say about him. My favorite has to be Elkington. Mostly from his interviews with Jim Rome. Guy is funny and a guy I think I could golf with and enjoy myself.

    Fore!

Hi all, My name is Andrew. I am new to the game. I have about 9 rounds under my belt. I currently play a set of 199.00 specials from Dick's Sporting goods. I would like to upgrade this spring but am a bit confused as to just what would be a good set. Looking to go irons first and am concerned about getting a set that are above my ability. I have played mostly in TX - San Antonio area - used to go almost every weekend when I was stationed there in the military. I either drove the cart (passed out the beverages ) or played. Best course I played there was Golf Club of Texas Very nice! I used to live in Monterey California - and I credit that with planing the seed for golf. My great-grandmother was an avid golfer and sunday was Jack day on the TV. She golfed all over the country and did 38 holes a day into her 70's IIRC. Those are the reasons I think I was initialy drawn to the game. Now it's about everything else - love being out with the fellas on a Sat morning and hitting a decent shot every 4 holes or so. I admit yesterday I watched LPGA, PGA, th Champions tour and then more LPGA on TV. Kinda makes me a crazy..... Here to learn and look forward to talking with many of you!
  21. Best I played was Golf Club of Texas - San Antonio I have visited Pebble but the green's fees were a bit outside what an E2/3 can afford! Pebble really is a beautiful place and were I to spend $$ on a vacation I would go back to Monterey and golf around the penninsula - but I want to be in the 80's before I spend it - no sense being frustrated @ 500 bucks a round!
  22. I am a service writer for Peterbilt. Before that I was in the Navy. I am a new golfer but look to golf atleast once if not 2x a month.
  23. My problem isn't with the brand perception - as a new player I would say mine run the same as most here have posted but determining what by whome is the best for a guy like me who is well over 100 on a round.
  24. My goal is to play more. I am a very new golfer (got about 9 rounds under my belt). I would like to get where I flirt with breaking 100. I recently got a set of Acuity clubs from Dicks. I know they are off brand - low end clubs but its better than nothing and I hope to be in a position to purchase at the least a decent set of irons. I am looking at irons first as I play them the most. Want to be sure not to get a set that are way above my level. Thats about it.
