  1. I prefer the first. The second comment was brutal.
  2. At the Golf Galaxy in Eastgate there's the opposite problem - the machine lands well short of what I really hit. I'll hit a driver in there, have 160mph ball speed at a 13 or 14 degree angle and then it only says the ball went 215 yards. Riiight .... Then I go in there just yesterday with a just-extended 3 wood - 145 mph, 10 degrees, 240-something yards. Six iron? 125 mph, 194 yards. If I hit a six iron that far, where's my tour card? Or at least I should be able to enter long drive contests.
  3. Most newer pitching wedges are in the 46-48 degree range. I also have the short game bible and when spring really breaks I'm going to try out the 3x4 myself. I suggest a gap wedge at about 51 degrees - see if that fills your gap.
  4. As soon as we get anything that indicates Iran's about to build a nuclear weapon. The media is told perhaps a tenth of what the government truly knows. For now I'll have to put my faith in those in charge rather than a bunch of halfwits who think they know it all (those who continuously rail against "bombing Iran") because they're sadly ignorant of the situation, as are the rest of us. Probably.
  5. A Democrat president wouldn't take a hard-line on Iran. However neither of them will bail out of Iraq. I cam imagine Obama getting in there and then a week making a speech, something along the lines of "I hope we can pull out our troops as soon as possible, there have been some major developments in the war (read: classified stuff he didn't know before he was President), but I hope we can bring change, change the war in Iraq, and hope that we can bring the troops home as soon as possible..." Seriously - Obama uses the word "Change" more than anything else but he has little actual substance - he's laid out a vague socialist healthcare plan, and saying to bail out of Iraq, but that's it. But he won't pull out - he and the other Democrats want George Bush to lose the war--once they're in power they won't want to lose it, either. France wasn't in Iraq militarily. They were involved with the construction of the Osirak reactor if I recall correctly (the one that Israel airstruck back in like 1981). As to World War 2...well, there's a whole host of reasons why France lost. Vietnam (for both France and America) was a failure at the tactical level more than anything else--both countries halfassed the war, and paid the price. Not really. Islamofascists want to nuke our cities, kill us, rape the women and enslave the children - and then forcibly convert what's left of us to their backwards extremism. It doesn't matter what we do - they are filled with blind rage and nothing will dissuade them from their perverted worldview. Our only choice is to get rid of them before we have another 9/11. There's been a lot of thwarted terror attacks since 9/11:
  6. Peace through superior firepower is unfortunately the only way. Those who beat their swords into plowshares end up plowing for those who kept their swords.

    Haggling

I went to a Golf Galaxy to get a Burner - used was 199.99. I got the guy to 179, 169, and then 159 as my credit card rejected the sale again and again (I'm on a first-name basis with most of the guys there, I'm in that store so often. You know you've got it bad when that happens.)
  8. 48. Not particularly happy with what's going on. I'm blocking a lot off to the right, which when I play for a draw means I end up in trouble, and then I'm slicing the 3 wood for some reason...
  9. Local guy, a driving range pro. Carded in a 64 at the Willows once - that course, if 500 yards longer and the infrastructure, could hold a tour event. The greens are certainly fast enough... I played nine holes with him and he shot one under - but he was focused more on what I was doing - I'm sure he could have done better if he was focused on his game only. I'd place him in the +3 range.
  10. Victory on Islamo-fascist terror can only be won when we attack the sources--Bashir Assad (spelling?) in Syria, Ahmadinejad in Iran, and every last vestige of Wahabbism in Saudi Arabia must be eradicated with military force if necessary. Otherwise we're doing the equivalent of treating the symptoms of a disease without getting at what's causing it. But yeah I prefer we stick to golf and not politics.
  11. I might. But the mud's so bad right now it'd put the Raspuitsa to shame.
  12. July and August heat in Kentucky. Members can play for free on weekends, but only after 1 PM. Regularly topped 95 last year, and incredibly humid with a heat index over 100. On the bright side, I did lose 20lbs that summer Close runner-up would have to be the horrid, horrid mud I played in on the first of February. I hadn't been out in a month - it was a joke. Every shot sprayed mud, every ball plugged, and the ball might as well have tried to roll through a keg of molasses when on the green. I carded in a bigger number than I care to remember on that day, and I learned the hard way, a golf cart is not a 4x4...
  13. I shoot better when I'm alone. If I don't like what I've hit, I'll just drop another ball and try again, or I'll take extra practice shots here, there, etc. It's also easier to get into the rhythm (I started birdie, par, par playing by myself the other day, and then I joined a threesome ahead. Played the next six holes in seven over. Maybe because they were all hacks it got to my head? I'm not sure but my game certainly went downhill from there.) I prefer playing with a foursome though. That way slow play is less irritating because you're spending more time watching your buddies hit their shot rather than standing 250 yards out in the fairway, 3 wood in hand, waiting impatiently for the next 15 minutes for the green to clear. By then you've lost your rhythm, and you hit a dribbler.
  14. Normally I don't mark my balls-because I go through too many, and a lot of the ones I have were used anyway. During an official round I'll put three black dots above "Titleist" in a triangle.
  15. Occasionally I'll put up a bet of a dollar or something - "I'll give you a dollar if you make par from there...".
  16. Slow down the greens. Let's see how he does then...
  17. 42 on the front side of Willows. Spring has sprung (sort of). Played much smarter than I used to - better course management, and I hit a lot more irons than usual (and it paid off, because it wasn't a spectacular short game day but I kept the ball in play the whole time).
  18. I disagree on the putting part--Tiger's a good putter, but he's not a great putter. If there's a weakness in his game apart from accuracy off the tee (which he fixes by hitting a lot of irons) it's his putting. And besides, it's your attitude that the majority of tour players take - they're beaten before they even tee it up.
  19. I think everyone does that at some point. Me, I barely nicked the top of the ball with an iron just the other day, and advanced the ball perhaps an inch. (I think that's being generous...I barely nudged it.)
  20. Hogan. I think he was the only one ever to be truly in control of his swing.
  21. Agreed. I don't even use them very often because I'll go through three or four a round, but the cheap, nasty solid-as-a-rock Pinnacles, Slazenger's, and Rock Flite's last all day.
  22. Hybrids are better for getting the ball up, and it'll also cost you a lot of workability. It's designed for people who a) hit the ball all over the clubface or b) those who have trouble getting the ball up in the air with longer irons (slower clubhead speed). It doesn't work for everyone - whatever gives you the most confidence standing over the ball, use it. I don't get why people so aggressively push hybrids - some even say have nothing longer than a six iron. I'm left out in the rain, wondering out loud how these things can possibly be the answer-all for all golfer's problems.
  23. Which one: Driver How long: About three years Material: Graphite - Big Bertha Warbird Where did it break: The golf course Why was it broken: Dropped my shoulder Anything wrong: It didn't get the ball up in the air! Which one: Driver How long: About a month Material: Graphite - Acer Series 2001 Where did it break: The driving range Why was it broken: Tried to hit two balls Anything wrong: I hated that grip... Which one: Driver How long: 10 holes Material: Graphite - Cheap Wilson set driver Where did it break: 10th tee Why was it broken: I don't know? I pulled it out of the bag, held it parallel to the ground and the head spontaneously fell off... Anything wrong: Slice, hook, slice, hook... (I'll finish this later LOL)
  24. Agreed. Putting is one of the great equalizers in golf - you can bomb away all day and not win a cent if you can't putt.
  25. Signed. I could use a day off just to drink.
