I recently acquired a Titleist 905R with Grafalloy Blue ( not the Prolaunch Blue) stiff shaft and although fairly light, seems to require a LOT of effort/swing-speed to get the ball anywhere past 230 yards.

Is it possible then, to practice with a club with such a demanding shaft, and then go back your 'gamer' driver and start bombing them further? (in my case, a Nike Sasquatch Tour 460 with Diamana Blueboard S83 stiff = 9 grams heavier).

I think I'm not getting the whole 'torque' or 'stiff-tip' thing...

Wouldn't it make more sense to practice with the club you use? It sounds like the two different clubs require two different swings. Golf is a game of repeatables.

If it's strength and speed your trying to develop, try a weighted practice club, not a stiffer shaft.

Just a thought but you may be playing with too stiff of a shaft. If you have a hard time swinging a stiff shaft over 230, a regular or possibly a senior flex may be better for you.
