One of my top priorities during my five-day vacation to Panama City Beach over the holidays was to get a round of golf in with my Dad. Even the Winter prices are pretty expensive, but I was able to find a Tuesday Special where we each play and ride for only $15/person.

The course is at Bay Dunes Golf Club . Any hints you guys can offer just from viewing the layout? It is going to be only my third full round of golf after all.

The best advice I've ever seen given to a person fairly new to golf:

  • Take enough club. It's manlier to par than it is to double-bogey hitting 8I from 160.
  • Swing smoothly and focus on making solid contact, not hitting the ball hard.
Make putts. Play for fun. Enjoy your playing partner(s) (your dad and any others). And Hit 3W or 5W or even 3I off the tee if your driver is giving you fits. Play to safe areas and plan for mishits.

Oh, and if you see the beer cart girl, get her phone number. She looks pretty cute in that pink top...

My best bit of advice is to get there about 30-40 min. early and warm up with twenty swings at the driving range and then putting green. If you can get into rhythm before you step onto the course it will be a lot more fun than taking three or four holes to find your swing.

Have fun and let us know how you do.
