hi guys,

i've been rooting around the web trying to find a free web-based golf league management application.

basically looking for a system where an admin can add and maintain rounds of a group, complete with slope of each course played.

so far most of the stuff i've found on google has either looked really old, isn't web based, or charges a relatively high fee for something I don't think is really that complex.

if there's nothing out there that fits the bill (which I doubt) i may take a stab at developing it myself if anybody pipes in that there could be some interest...

TIA
chris

hi guys,

I doubt you'll find that for free. Iacas sells a package. I don't know what it does. If you want to take a "stab", you could do it in Access and make it web-accessible on your own host. I hope you are really good at relational databases, complex SQL statements and writing an algorithm for the handicap index formula. My golf group uses Focus 7.0. It's just an app. I could put the results on a web site but e-mail is faster.

Thanks for responding, Mike.

I've actually built a few web apps in my day (and hired out quite a few more) so I'm not too concerned with the technical specs of the project. I just didn't want to throw some time at it if there was a system out there that already did the same thing...

Erova, you might want to take a look at Caddie Master Pro by Brian Yager. It should do all you want and then some. www.caddiemaster.com

interesting stuff.

i'm also surprised to see how many titles are exclusively windows (i'm a mac user with windows installed).

i think what i'm looking for is something simpler than a robust statistic-tracking application. i'll keep you guys posted if i have any luck coming up with something on my own...

I was looking for something like that myself a few months ago. Didn't have much success but the closest I got to the pin was with add-on modules for the Joomla CMS. Here's one here:

I know there is at least one other for Joomla (maybe a derivative of the the one above).
They claim to be flexible enough for multiple sports. Maybe golf would be too much of a stretch.
Good luck and please let me know how the search goes.
Cheers
David

interesting joomla module, tymac.

i'll definitely keep you posted--it really looks like most of the software available is either more statistics driven (fairways hit, sand saves, putts, etc.) or for hardcore league management (with what often looks to be an offline desktop installation).

sounds like i could throw something together and have a few guys on here beta test it for me!

I do the handicapping/point tracking for one of my leagues. I was never able to find anything "free". I ended up putting together my own application in Microsoft Excel using VBA to do the numbers and export the data to an HTML file. Doesn't sound like that's too applicable though.
