What Scotty Cameron putter do i buy?

I finnally am gonna make the jump to a scotty cameron putter. I have been using ping and White hott putters for years. But i just feel i want to get more feel. Right now my putter is Ping Zing 33" putter. The Studio 1.5 looks to be the exact same putter. Should i stick with the same style or switch styles? My putting have been terrible this year with the ping.

That Newport 2.6 prototype he has got on his website looks like an awesome putter. But unfortunately its unlikley to into production any time soon. I might be temeped to take a serious look at that one if it does.

But there are so many styles of putter they sell its hard to give you a read on which one to buy. I would just visit the cameron website and see what interests you. No one is better than another, IMO, its just whatever configuration you feel will make your putting easier.

What about your putting is so terrible?

Are you having problems reading the greens, problems starting the ball on the intended line or problems with distance?

As great as a Scotty is (I have one, an older newport 2.0) there is nothing magical about a Scotty...well nothing any more magical then your Ping.

Going from one blade putter to another probably isn't going to make a huge difference, now if you went to a mallet style or a long putter that would be different.

well seems like i have lost some feel with the ping putter. The putter feels so light in my hands and the ball just does roll off the face as nice as i would like it too. I have tried changing grips from cross handed to the claw to others. You are right not looking for a miricle. Maybe just a confidence boost.

If you are happy with your stroke and tempo then would check out maybe looking for a heavier putter? Before I bought my Newport 2 I tried a bunch different blade putters, I used to use a 2ball balde putter and although it was a blade putter the 2ball part of it gave it alot of mass and the ball rolled further then I wanted.

I looked at the new Ping Redwood, the Odyssey Black series #2 and finally ended up with the Scotty Newport 2.0. The thing with Scottys is that they are all weighted according to their length unless you are willing to custom order them and they can make the head with additional weighting but when I was looking the Black series felt the heaviest, you may want to give that a try.

See, this is what I was wondering. What is so particularly great about a Scotty? Don't get me wrong, I like to buy golf clubs, I have waaaay too many, and I have about 5 putters now. But, WHY buy a Scotty, just because its a Scotty? If you're going to pay that much, I say try a Rife. It has newer technology, they are well made, weights, bending tool included. I went to the practice green yesterday and the Rife rolls the ball like a dream. JMO

See, this is what I was wondering. What is so particularly great about a Scotty? Don't get me wrong, I like to buy golf clubs, I have waaaay too many, and I have about 5 putters now. But, WHY buy a Scotty, just because its a Scotty?

If I told you that the fact that it is a Scotty didn't have a factor in buy it over the other blade style putters I would be lying. I don't mind paying for the reputation that comes with the putter, but is it really that much better of a putter then say a Ping or an Oddessey...not really, but is it all that much more expensive then a Ping or an Oddessey....no.

As for newer technology, just because it's new doesn't mean it's better....I know that wasn't the full intent of want you were trying to say because you could have said "better techonolgy" instead which would appear to make this point moot but as for the things like weights, bending tools and ways to alter the dynamics of a putter to me are gimics. Am I really going to go and change the weights around on my putter or the lie angle on a per day, course to course basis - to me that just breads inconsistancy. Why not get your putter fitted to you and when you have an off day chalk it up as a day your putter stroke wasn't good that day? I think many would be inclined to mess around with the weights and such before trying to improve your own swing/stroke. When your livelihood depends on making putts and spending even say $1k for a putter is nothing when one putt can mean the difference between making the cut and not making the cut. Am I saying that I am at this level, heck no not even close but if that same tool is available to me then why wouldn't I use it? I am not going to go into quoting numbers and such about who uses what but the Scottys just have a reputation for being good putters that are made with the best materials, craftmanship and solid research. Everything you buy is usually influenced by some outside factor, are they warrented - some are some aren't. I would like to think that I am at a point in my golf skill that I am beyond the need for helping technology but that's mostly in my own head.

If you get a scotty get a Pro Platinum newport midslant 2 or get a mizuno bettinardi c-04 it is exactly the same as a pro platinum laguna 2. EXACT SAME the only difference is the face which is the honeycomb face. New Bettinardi $225 Slightly used on eBay $150-170

Thanks for all the great info so far. I think best bet is to go to golf galaxey and try a bunch out. Been using a blade style for a while now. Might be time to try something new.

I don't know why you think Scottys are so expensive, yes some are if you want to buy a limited edition or collecters, Rife also has them and the simple blade putter is $500...but it's sold out. The off the rack Scotty is probably about $100 more expensive then an off the rack Rife.

Oh and if you look the Rife's collector series, the circle R symbol looks like a straight rip off of the Scotty's tour series that is a circle T....I guess Rife likes Scottys too. Lots of putters use grooves on the putter face and I woudl think that if they made a significant enough of a difference then every putter ever made would have them...or the USGA would outlaw them :P

My last post on this subject. . .You're starting to stress me out a little! Scotty's are expensive because they really offer nothing special except a name. Its usually a simple milled face and "Scotty!" on the putter--woohoo!

As far as Rife Liking Scotties too and ripping off a logo , logo=unimportant. If there are "a lot" of putters with grooves in the face, I haven't see many. I know of the Rifes because I have one, and a golfin' buddy has a YES putter, some models of theirs have grooves. I believe there will be more and more companies in the next few years to come out with their own new putter design with "facial grooves". I did try to find out some history on the putter. . .I was curious about the use of grooves, how early, why or why not they didn't last. I simply couldn't find any info on the subject. There are books available about the History of the Flatstick. . .haven't had time to buy one and read to add to my argument. I guess I just simply see nothing special about them. That is all, I'm done arguing with you Beung. . .

if not anything Scotties hold their value WAY MORE than any other putter out there..go check..and actually they may even be worth more now then when they 1st came out..seriously.

It's also a collectible thing too..I just got an "asian" spec taht only were made for the aisan markets overseas..a weight/length thing..pricey ($360)
