My current wedge setup is a 48* pitching wedge and a 56* sand wedge. I have been noticing that i have major issues with shots inbetween 30 and 60 yards. My tendency is to come up short. I normally use the 56 for these shots. I have tried teh 48 and my shots are normally long with this club. I have been thinking about getting a 53* wedge. Would this help my 30 to 60 yard shots? And if you are wonder about how i play, i am in 10th grade and play high school golf. I normally shoot in the 40's for 9 holes.

Id say get yourself a 60* lob wedge, If you strike the ball well you can usually hit it up to 80-90 yards. Its a high lofted club and should be perfect if you like to hit it high and drop it on the green.

You mentioned getting a 53* wedge, well this would be even harder to hit the greens than your 56*. Do you like playing the ball low and letting it roll onto the green?

You'd be better off with a 52* wedge, as it is right in between.
Yes, it does help considerably with the shots you mentioned.

I'd say if you are coming up short and you already have a 56* wedge, A 52* wedge should definately do the trick. That's what i plan on doing in the future for my next club to get. As i find myself in the same distance problems.

No offense but this has to be one of the stupidist things i have ever heard. If i am coming up short with 56 on these shots why would i add more loft. I will pop the ball up more than i already do causing even more problems.

To be fair to Dent, it is just a 'common' answer, every one should really have a high lofted wedge.

No offence but you really haven't told us what type of shot your hitting to come up short, are you hitting it on a high or low ball flight? if so why high or why low?

He probably though you were having trouble judging the distance with a partial sandwedge, not coming up short with a full one.

If a full sw is coming up short then a 52* wedge would be what you want... or just hit a 3/4 to 1/2 pitching wedge.

i can full swing my 58* and get 100yds out of it no problem maybe your not striking it good......and to dent being "the dumbest answer"....... you shoudl revise your question to make it understandable to everyone before getting upset

You probably have a problem hitting partial swing shots which is very common. Most of the time we make a big backswing and deccelerate coming into the ball. The gap wedge is still a good buy but look into instructions on how to hit those 1/2 and 3/4 swings.

I read somewhere that you should be able to adjust your swing to have 5 distances with each club.

Full Swing = Full Length Choke to Mid Grip + Full Swing = -10 Yards Choke to Bottom of Grip + Full Swing = -10 yards 1/2 Swing = -10 yards 1/2 Swing + Choke = -10 yards Something like that. Thus, if you are hitting your 48* long, then try choking down on it. ?? However, from what I understand, the Gap Wedge (52* range) is one of the first wedges people add to their bag.

How do you come up short on a 30-60yd shot using a 56deg?...Other than completely sucking, you must have a problem with non-full swings, in which case, the suggestion for a higher lofted wedge with a fuller swing makes sense...

You are quite quick to call someone stupid who has a legitimate suggestion.

You coming up short with a 56* from that distance is not right. Even someone with a 36 handicap should be able to make it on a full swing.

You don't even give us enough details to answer the question properly.

I'm pretty sure that buying a new wedge isn't going to fix this issue. There's no club designed specifically for a full swing 30 yard shot.

This comes down to practice with your 56º or your 60º. You'll get it!

you have to tell us that your are coming up short because not enough roll in your shot or something.

Im no teacher, but couldnt be that your hands are getting behind the ball on impact and its doubling the loft of your club. I only say this because I was doing this for a while. Im probably wrong.

unless you are skying the sandwedge really really high, you should be able to go 30-60yds with the 56 easily. I was also going to recommend a 60 degree lob wedge and try a full swing with it... but... you seem sensitive to getting a higher lofted club. try putting the ball in the back of your stance to make the ball flight lower...

i went to the range last night and picked out a spot roughly 30- 50 yds out and hit both wedges. My 56 it took many swings to get in a good tempo to get it there. My 48 was much easier to get the ball to land in the area but was a little deep with it. I think i 53 degree wedge will fix it. I am not spending 100 bucks on a wedge either, there is a acuity one at dicks for 40 bucks. My clubs are the same company so i though i would just keep it the same.

I use my 60* lob wedge for anything inside 100. 56* sand wedge for 101-120 or so and 48* pw from 120-140 or so. Are those about the right distances for each wedge? It seems like I can hit my lob wedge a lot longer than I should be able to. I'm pretty scared of hitting it thin under 100 and blasting it past the green. Around the green within 10 yards or so I chip with the 56* wedge and let it run.
